August’s English Set: ‘Black & White – Emerging Powers’
Sorry for the lack of updates this past week! I’ve had a stroke of bad luck – my laptop is being repaired right now and the backup computer I was using coincidentally died a few days ago (the motherboard failed). The only way I could check the Internet was through my iPod; all of the updates I just posted, spare this one, should have been posted on Saturday and Sunday. Luckily, my friend dropped off his PC a few hours ago and I’m allowed to use it until my laptop is repaired (if I break it, though, he’ll kill me). Now on with the updates!
August’s English set will be named Black & White – Emerging Powers and will feature at least 98 cards. It will likely be a combination of the cards that were cut from the first Black & White set (41 cards), cards from the Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion Battle Strength Decks (25 unique cards), unreleased BW promo cards, and reprinted Trainers and Energy. Like the first English Black & White set, Emerging Powers‘s two theme decks, Power Play and Toxic Tricks, will be released early on August 17th. The theme decks feature a Krookodile and Scolipede that have not been released in Japan yet (they are not just alternate art), meaning they are probably future promos. On August 31st, two weeks after the theme decks are released, the main set’s booster packs will hit store shelves. Every booster pack will feature a code card that can activate virtual cards for use in the Pokemon Trading Card Game Online program.
It seems now that Red Collection as well as the cards from the BW Battle Theme Deck Victini will comprise either our third or fourth Black & White set. As they were designed to promote the two Victini movies, their release depends on when the dubs of the two Victini movies premiere in America. The Zoroark movie premiered on Cartoon Network this past February, meaning it is very likely Red Collection can be our February set rather than our November set. In that case, we will receive Japan’s third Black & White set (the one following Red Collection, which will probably be released around October) as our third Black & White set for a near-simultaneous release. It wouldn’t be the first time that has happened! But we’ll see what goes down – this is all just predicting at this point (though based on history, of course!).
