Boston Worlds 2015

Pokemon has announced that the Worlds 2015 Championships will be held at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Massachusetts from Friday, August 21st, through Sunday, August 23rd. This will be the first Worlds with no Last Chance Qualifier for the TCG.

Update - Pokemon has removed the page with the Worlds info used in this news story, so it probably wasn't meant to be seen yet and may not be finalized.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game World Championships is an invitation-only event, meaning only those players who earn an official invite from Pokémon Organized Play will be able to compete for the title of Pokémon World Champion.

Players who do not receive an official invite from Pokémon Organized Play can compete in side events, watch the main event, or participate in other great activities! There will not be a last chance qualifier at the 2015 Pokémon World Championships. Specific information for side events will be released at a later time.

Hynes Convention Center
900 Boylston Street

Pokemon has officially updated their errata document with corrected text for Furious Fists's Fighting Stadium and Phantom Forces's Jamming Net, which previously used incorrect wording and terminology. Erratas are corrections to cards that must be used whenever you play them. Thus, you must pretend the new wording below is what is printed on the actual cards. Refer to the scans to see the old wording.

Fighting Stadium from Furious Fists

Fighting Stadium
The attacks of each Fighting-type Pokemon in play (both yours and your opponent’s) do 20 more damage to the opponent’s Active Pokemon if it is a Pokemon-EX (before applying Weakness and Resistance).

How it was changed: This stadium should only impact the Active Pokemon-EX belonging to the opponent of the attacking Pokemon.

Jamming Net from Phantom Forces

Jamming Net
The attacks of the Pokemon this card is attached to do 20 less damage to each of the opponent’s Pokemon (before applying Weakness and Resistance). (Don’t apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokemon.)

How it was changed: This tool should only impact the Pokemon belonging to the opponent of the attacking Pokemon.

Pokemon in South Korea

To celebrate Se Jun Park's victory as the Pokemon Video Game World Champion, South Korea held a "Pokemon Champion's Day" this past weekend in Seoul. Several Pikachu visited and Junichi Masuda even made an appearance.

On the schedule was a series of eight Pokemon parades at Dongdaemun Design Plaza to celebrate Park's victory. But according to the South Korean news website Star, things didn't go quite as planned. Droves of people began showing up, quickly filling the plaza beyond capacity, and event organizers were forced to cancel the remaining parades due to safety concerns. Talk about PokeMania!

Eight parades to celebrate someone winning at Pokemon? In my day the 12 year olds would have crucified you where you stood for all the children on the playground to see. :p Glad South Korea has its priorities straight!

Pokemon has uploaded an OR/AS short to its YouTube channel, as you can see below. It's an animated advertisement for the upcoming games just like the short that aired before BW2's release.

The official Japanese Pokemon TCG website has revealed that Primal Groudon-EX and Primal Kyogre-EX's special abilities are called "Ancient Traits," which Primal Clash's set description revealed a few weeks ago. Gaia Volcano's Sceptile and Tidal Storm's Swampert feature Groudon and Kyogre's Ancient Traits, but the promo Torchic that comes in Japan's Metagross Collection has another one. Perhaps there will be different Ancient Traits throughout XY5?

Ancient Traits cards will feature "large illustrations," as the official Japanese website calls them. Fan term: half art? Thanks goes to Bangiras for the card translations below! To discuss these cards and their new mechanic, check out this thread on our forums!

XY5 Swampert

Swampert - Water - HP140
Stage 2 - Evolves from Marshtomp

α Growth: When you attach an Energy card from your hand to this Pokemon (except with an attack, Ability, or Trainer card), you may attach 2 Energy cards.

Ability: Diving Search
Once during your turn (before your attack), you may search your deck for any 1 card. Shuffle your deck, then place that card on top of your deck.

[C][C][C] Hydro Pump: 40+ damage. Does 30 more damage for each [W] Energy attached to Swampert.

Weakness: Grass (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 3

XY5 Sceptile

Sceptile - Grass - HP140
Stage 2 - Evolves from Grovyle

Ω Barrier: Whenever your opponent plays a Trainer card (excluding Pokemon Tools and Stadium cards), prevent all effect of that card done to this Pokemon.

[G] Leaf Blade: 30+ damage. Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 30 more damage.
[G][G][C] Power Poison: 120 damage. Discard an Energy attached to Sceptile. Your opponent's Active Pokemon is now Poisoned.

Weakness: Fire (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 2

Torchic Promo

Torchic - Fire - HP50
Basic Pokemon

Ω Multi Strike: This Pokemon can attack twice. If your opponent's Active Pokemon is Knocked Out with the first attack, you may attack your opponent's new Active Pokemon with the second attack. (Note: Text is too small, may be inaccurate.)

[R] Flare Bonus: Discard 1 [R] Energy from your hand, then draw 2 cards.
[R] Claw: 20 damage. Flip a coin. If tails, this attack does nothing.

Weakness: Water (x2)
Resistance: none
Retreat: 1

A new Acro Bike card was also showcased with Swampert as some sort of draw card, but the card's text is way too small to read. Also revealed by the Japanese Pokemon TCG site are new Mega Gardevoir card sleeves! If you buy two booster boxes of Tidal Storm and Gaia Volcano from participating stores, you'll receive 32 of them (which means you'll need to buy four boxes of XY5 to sleeve a 60-card deck!).

Mega Gardevoir Sleeves

In other promo news, to celebrate the grand opening of Tokyo's relocated Pokemon Center, a new "Mega Tokyo's Pikachu" promo will be given out to shoppers at all of Japan's Pokemon Centers from December 12th to January 16th (while supplies last). You only need to make one purchase to get one.

Mega Tokyo's Pikachu Promo

Mega Tokyo's Pikachu - Lightning - HP70

[L] Mega Open: Each player reveals his or her hand.
[L][C] Thundershock: 30 damage. Flip a coin. If heads, your opponent's Active Pokemon is now Paralyzed.

Also announced were new "Toasty Pikachu" promo cards, which you can get when you purchase a UNIQLO t-shirt this winter. Each t-shirt costs 999 yen, or about $10.

[L][C] Thundershock: 20 damage. Flip a coin. If heads, your opponent's Active Pokemon is now Paralyzed.

And finally, Toys R Us stores are giving out jumbo Pikachu promos to those who purchase over $30 worth of merchandise.

Pokemon has released a trailer featuring the contents of last night's CoroCoro, revealing that the mysterious girl is named Zinnia as well as details about the Delta Episode, Legendary Pokemon, the Eon Ticket, and a new Pokemon Global Link Attraction!

Delta Episode Rayquaza vs. Deoxys

The Delta Episode, keeping the same name in English, "involves the history of the Hoenn region, reaching 3,000 years into the past, and makes the mysteries of Mega Evolution clear at long last. The episode thrusts Trainers into a quest to save the world - the Mossdeep Space Center, a research facility for studying space and rocket science, discovers that a giant asteroid is hurtling toward the planet. Trainers must stop Team Magma and Team Aqua from attacking the facility. Meanwhile, a battle in space is brewing between the Sky High Pokemon Rayquaza and the DNA Pokemon Deoxys. Rayquaza faces a fateful challenge that will determine the future of Hoenn. Helping Trainers restore peace to the Hoenn region are Sootopolis City's Gym Leader, Wallace, and the Hoenn region’s Champion, Steven, both of whom hold secrets to stopping the asteroid."

ZinniaZinnia Delta Episode

"Trainers will also meet Zinnia, a mysterious girl rumored to possess the key to the fate of the world. She bears a certain destiny. Zinnia wears a Mega Anklet set with one of the mysterious Key Stones, which allows her Salamence to Mega Evolve." Her name in other languages is Amaryllis, Lyris, Amalia, Tristana, and Higana.

We also learn that "even as the asteroid approaches, there is new movement from Team Magma or Team Aqua, depending on which game you play. It appears that either Courtney / Matt is targeting Trainers to steal the Key Stones needed to make Pokemon Mega Evolve."

Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, Tornadus, Thundurus, Landorus, Cresselia, and Heatran can be captured in Mirage spots via Soar, though the Pokemon will vary depending on which version you play. Regirock, Regice, and Registeel can of course be captured once you decipher braille messages throughout Hoenn. Once you capture the three golems and meet other special conditions, you can also encounter and capture Regigigas, who is "said to the creator of the Legendary trio."

Eon Ticket Relay

To catch the Latias in Omega Ruby or Latios in Alpha Sapphire, Trainers must first revisit Southern Island by acquiring and using an Eon Ticket. The ticket can be shared with other players by activating StreetPass on BuzzNav. For those of you in the United Kingdom, 15 Pokemon fans will be selected to be the first people to receive the Eon Ticket - Junichi Masuda will give the tickets out at the UK's OR/AS launch event in London so that fans can spread it across the country via StreetPass. You can enter for a chance to be one of these 15 people at PokemonEonTicket.com, which will also entitle you to a brand new 2DS.

Poke Miles and Medals earned in X/Y as well as OR/AS will allow Trainers to play "Mine Cart Adventure," a new PGL attraction that will debut with the release of OR/AS. In Mine Cart Adventure, Trainers must navigate carts on winding tracks to collect Berries and win a variety of Poke Balls.

CoroCoro has started to leak! From the scans so far, a new character named "Higana" will be paramount to the plot line and uses a Mega Salamence and Whismur. It is likely she has something to do with the mystery of Mega Evolution and Rayquaza going off her teaser poster. The magazine also showcases all the Legendary Pokemon in the games, including Deoxys, who will be available through a special mission called "Episode Delta."
