In addition to what is now called Mega Charizard Y, another Mega Charizard, Mega Charizard X, has been revealed during the Pokemon Origins special that just finished airing. It seems Mewtwo will not be the only Pokemon that has two version-exclusive Mega Evolutions. Will Venusaur and Blastoise have another one too? More than likely! What do you think they'll look like?

Update (5:00 AM) - Pokemon has uploaded a trailer showing off both Mega Evolutions. Mega Charizard X is confirmed to change from Fire/Flying to Fire/Dragon. Its new Ability is Tough Claws, which raises the power of its moves that make direct contact. Its Attack significantly increases.

Pokemon.com has announced that the same rule changes coming to the Japanese TCG on November 8th will be coming to the English TCG on the exact same day with the release of the Kalos Starter Sets.

Also revealed is that Professor Sycamore is card #122 in XY.

Professor Sycamore in XY TCG

First Turn

Flip a coin before drawing your opening hand. The winner of the coin flip now decides who goes first. Also, whoever goes first now can’t attack on his or her first turn. If you win the flip, decide carefully if you want the first turn or not!

Errata - Pokémon Catcher

Flip a coin. If heads, switch 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon with his or her Active Pokémon.

Changes: This card now requires a coin flip. (This makes Pokémon Catcher functionally identical to Pokémon Reversal.)

Professor Juniper and Professor Sycamore

While there are no functional changes to these cards, you may not include both of them in your deck. That is, you may have up to 4 copies of Professor Juniper or up to 4 copies of Professor Sycamore—but if you have any Professor Juniper cards in your deck, you may not put any Professor Sycamore cards in your deck, and vice versa.

This morning, several convincing photos of new Pokemon were posted around the Internet (the first three you see below). Later on, another "leaker" appeared on our forums and began posting even more photos (the rest you see below). Both sources are apparently playing different games, but both own at least one of the same Pokemon (Hawlucha). According to the combined information of both "leaks," Greninja is the final form of Froakie, Hawlucha is a Flying/Fighting-type Pokemon that can learn a new Fighting-type attack called Flying Press, and a new Rock/Water Pokemon, Binacle, is #21 in the Coastal Kalos Pokedex. Aerodactyl supposedly has a Mega Evolution as well. Hawlucha's color scheme appears to vary going by the two sets of photos below.

It is difficult to determine if the images are Photoshopped. After over 1,000 people began to view the forum thread, the source who posted on our forums expunged the information from his posts and deleted his images. He called them fake, but many of our forum users theorize that it's just a cover-up excuse. His IP address traces back to Italy where other convincing X/Y photos have been leaking over the past few days. While we don't want to post any more "leaks" about these games with their release right around the corner, the photos have already spread to every corner of the Internet, so there's no point in pretending they don't exist. Please remember though that these could still be fake and we're only presenting them for discussion purposes.

Check out the aforementioned thread to discuss these rumors or this post's forum thread.

The official Japanese Pokemon TCG website has announced upcoming rule changes for the TCG. The following rules will go into effect starting November 8th, the day the X and Y Beginning Set is released. It is unknown when these rules will go into effect internationally.

  • The player who goes first cannot use an attack on their first turn.
  • Pokemon Catcher will now require a coin flip.
  • Since the new Professor Sycamore card has the exact same effect as Professor Juniper, you can't play both cards in the same deck.

Sylveon Collection

A new "Sylveon Collection" is set to be released in America on November 15th! It will come with a brand new holo Sylveon promo, Eevee and its other Eeveelutions as holo promos, a Fairy-type Energy card, a Sylveon figure, and four Black and White series booster packs. Thanks goes to Chaos Cards for the news!

This will be Sylveon's TCG debut: not even Japan has received a Sylveon card yet. It's also the first Fairy-type Pokemon card we've seen. The other Eeveelutions were originally released at Pokemon Centers in November 2012 and then in a file collection at the end of that month. They are all reprints from Dark Explorers. Eevee is a reprint from Plasma Freeze.

A new English X and Y trailer is currently airing on Cartoon Network and has been uploaded to Nintendo's YouTube channel, as you can see below. It seems this slipped by almost everyone, but at 0:08 for about three frames, there appears to be two of a new Pokemon inside an enclosure. They appear to have gray bodies. We of course cannot tell for sure what they are, but they do not appear to match any known Pokemon or overworld object. Thanks goes to Gin for spotting this!
