PokeBeach’s ‘HeartGold’ and ‘SoulSilver’ Coverage
We have just acquired the HeartGold and SoulSilver games. We’ll post every piece of information we encounter in playing the games and will also verify the information from yesterday. We’ll probably repeat known information from the original games that some people may already remember, but that’s so people playing the Japanese game can use this list as a sort of walkthrough. The bullet points are arranged from newest to oldest, so you don’t have to scroll down every time you refresh the page.
- The method of getting to Kanto is the same as in the original games. (Defeat the Elite Four, ride the S.S. Aqua.)
- In order to access Route 26, which leads to the Pokemon League, you must first defeat the Kimono Girls and capture either Lugia or Ho-oh.
- In the original games, using Whirlpool caused whirlpools to fill with water and disappear. This time, whirlpool simply lets you cross the whirlpools.
- You get the Silver Wing for beating Apollo (in Silver) or the Rainbow Wing (in Gold).
- Rival team: level 30 Golbat, level 32 Starter, level 30 Haunter, level 28 Magnemite, level 32 Sneasel
- Rocket Executive teams from the Radio Tower:
- Lance: level 28 Golbat, level 33 Weezing
- Athena: level 32 Arbok, level 32 Murkrow, level 32 Vileplume
- Apollo: level 35 Houndour, level 35 Koffing, level 37 Houndoom
- A Kimono Girl is in the basement area. She comments on how strong your character is. “And that’s why legendary Poke–” She cuts herself off.
- Lambda (fake director): level 30 Koffing x5, level 32 Weezing. Beat him to get the Basement Key, go to the Underground to search for the real director.
- When you approach the stairs for a second time, the grunt lets you through, but then your rival appears. “Hey! Team Rocket! When you weaklings gather together, you annoy people! Did you know that?” He notices you. “What? (Player)? What are you doing here? Don’t tell me, even you think that uniform makes you strong? Stupid! Take it off!” Your character protests. “I see. You were planning to sneak in under disguise. Hmph! That’s the sort of plan a weakling would think up. Whatever. I’ll leave this to you. I’m going to go beat that cloaked Dragon user…that Lance guy. And you’re next. Be ready for it!”
- When your character tries to go up the stairs to the Radio Tower, a grunt says, “What do you want? We’re in the middle of something. If I let a non-Rocket pass, there’ll be harsh words! Understand? Only guys wearing these awesome black Team Rocket uniforms can pass!” So, go into the Underground, and talk to the photographer. “Hm, another new recruit? Since Team Rocket’s been expanding its ranks for the Radio Tower operation, they’ve been running out of uniforms. Why does a photographer have one? Well, I stole it. Here, it’s a perfect fit!”
- Team Rocket is broadcasting a message through the Radio Tower: “We are the long-silenced Team Rocket. The fruits of 3 years of effort toward rebuilding our organization– Here and now, Team Rocket announces its resurrection! Giovanni! Can you hear us? We finally did it! Where could our boss be? Is he listening to this broadcast?”
- Once you exit the Gym, you get a call from Professor Elm. He informs you that Team Rocket has invaded the Radio Tower.
- Pryce owns a level 30 Seel that knows Hail and Rest, a level 32 Dewgong with Aurora Beam, Ice Shard, Rest, and Sleep Talk, and a level 34 Piloswine. Each are three levels higher than the original games. Piloswine is holding a Sitrus Berry. Pryce also can use one Full Restore. He grants the player the Hail TM and the ability to use Whirlpool outside of battle.
- Mahogany Gym now has three rooms of ice sliding puzzles instead of the original one.
- The transmitter is disguised as a tree. After you defeat Team Rocket, it’s bent-up and does not look like a tree anymore.
- Lance has a level 40 Dragonite. After you defeat Athena, you and Lance each need to defeat three level 23 Electrodes that are powering the transmitter to shut it down.
- You follow Lambda’s Murkrow through the base, until it finally nears the door to the transmitter, and the door opens. Before you can go inside, Athena and a grunt stop you. Athena is very hotheaded compared to Lambda and complains about children endlessly hurting Team Rocket’s pride. As she starts to attack, Lance appears on the scene. You and Lance have a team battle against Athena and the grunt. Athena’s Pokemon are a level 25 Arbok, a level 25 Gloom, and a level 27 Murkrow. The grunt has a level 18 Drowzee and a level 20 Grimer.
- TM46 Thief is up at the top of a staircase, near the boss’ room.
- Lambda has a level 22 Zubat, a level 22 Koffing, and a level 24 Raticate. When you defeat him, he runs away. His pet Murkrow follows him, repeating the keyword in imitation of Lambda’s voice.
- Lambda: “Fufufu, good job getting this far. You’re (Trainer), eh?
Hm? You don’t know who I am? I’m Giovanni! The great Giovanni! Gwahaha!
…What’s that? There’s no resemblance? Giovanni isn’t here? Psh, even
though I practiced my impression! I’m Team Rocket Executive Lambda! So
you were planning on sneaking into the transmission room? That’s not gonna
happen! The reason is, you need a special keyword to unlock that room!
The keyword is “Hail Giovanni!” Fufufu, are you surprised that I gave
it away so easily? But knowing the keyword isn’t enough. That’s because
the door won’t open unless the keyword is said in my voice!” - Your rival appears as you approach the boss’ office. “And now you’re hanging around a place like this? Hmph! As if you like Team
Rocket that much! More importantly, that cloaked dragon user! What is he? My Pokemon couldn’t stand up to him at all. Not that I care about today’s loss–as long as I get my hands on some stronger Pokemon, I won’t lose to him. What really got to me was that speech…Saying I don’t have enough love
or faith in my Pokemon, when I think that I lost to a bleeding heart like him, I can’t help getting angry! Hmph! Do you think I’m your ally or something?!” He shoves your character and storms off. - TM49 Snatch is in the middle of B3F. You’ll pass it on your way to the boss’ office.
- Lambda is hiding in the boss’ office. You need to obtain two passwords to open the door. On far the left side of B3F is a female grunt who gives the password “Raticate Tail”, and in a small room on the right side of the same basement there is another female grunt, who gives the password “Slowpoke Tail”.
- The Elite Four also get upgraded teams. Here they are:

- Back in Mahongany Town, Lance is all business, having his Dragonite Hyper Beam the Pokemart “shopkeepers”. He leads you down a staircase to the Team Rocket base beneath the store. The base is lined with Persian statues. When you pass in front of one, it emits an alarm and two Grunts come to battle you (not a double battle, just one after another). You only have to trigger one of these alarms, and then you can make your way to a computer in the middle of the room and shut them off. Next, you have to walk over some checkered tiles. If you step on the wrong tile, a Koffing or a Geodude will attack you. There’s a staircase at the end of the checkered tiles; when you go downstairs Lance heals your Pokemon.
- It appears that all of the Gym Leaders (Kanto and Johto) can be re-battled.

- After you obtain the Red Scale, Lance appears at the Lake of Rage. He commends you for defeating the Red Gyarados and asks you to help him save the Magikarp (who are being forced to evolve). If you say yes, he flies back to Mahogany Town, telling you to meet him there.
- The Red Gyarados can be found in the Lake of Rage north of Mahogany Town. It is at level 30 with the attacks Dragon Rage, Bite, Leer, and Twister. There is rain during the battle, but since Gyarados doesn’t know any Water-type moves, it doesn’t make the battle any more difficult. Gyarados drops a Red Scale after it’s captured or defeated.
- Suicune can be found in the middle of Route 42. You need to use Cut to reach it. After it runs away, Eusine appears. “Suicune…So brave! So fresh! So beautiful! So cunning! (Trainer), it seems Suicune always appears before you! But that’s fine, my drive to pursue Suicune is greater. My grandfather was well-versed in legends. I heard Suicune’s legend in particular, many times as a child. Suicune…I will determine where you’re headed! I will continue to chase you!” (He doesn’t challenge you this time.)
- TM65 Shadow Claw is lying near the entrance to Mt. Mortar. As you get closer to Mt. Mortar, a Hiker comes our of the cave. He gives you HM04, Strength. Originally, Strength was obtained in Olivine, and was needed to get through the Cianwood Gym, so this is a change.
- The Olivine Gym is basically unchanged, it’s a straight path from the door to Jasmine. (Two Trainers do ambush you, but they just thank you for helping Amphy and cheer you on–they don’t challenge you.) Jasmine has two level 30 Magnemite and a level 35 Steelix. These are the same Pokemon and levels she had in the original games. She awards the Mineral Badge, Pokemon up to level 70 obey, and you receive a TM23 Iron Tail.
- Baoba periodically comes up with challenges for you, such as catching a specific Pokemon in the Safari Zone. He calls you whenever he has a new challenge.
- The Safari Zone seems to function like every other Safari Zone: 500 poke to enter, 30 balls. We’ll be looking into the customizable aspect of the Safari Zone later, after we finish the main game…but for now, the Safari Zone is pretty straightforward. We encountered Arbok, Koffing, Weezing, Bellsprout, Geodude, Graveler, Magmar, Onix, Magnemite, Magneton, and Kangaskhan on our trip.
- After leaving the Lighthouse, you get a call from Baoba, informing you that the Safari Zone is open. The Safari Zone entrance in Cianwood leads to Route 47. This is a cliff with waterfalls running over it…presumably one part of this cliff was used to make the Cianwood Gym. The path is somewhat mazelike, and there are a few Trainers to challenge along the way. At the end of the route is the Safari Zone Gate. There is a wide open area that has some tents with people selling items, and there is also a Pokemon Center. The Safari Zone itself is at the back of this area.
- When you return to Olivine with Amphy’s medicine, you can take an elevator right to the top of the Lighthouse. Once Amphy is healed, its tail begins to shine, and the top floor of the Lighthouse is illuminated.
- The Safari Zone is in Cianwood, north of the Gym, but it isn’t open yet.
- A man in Cianwood gives you a Shuckle. It is holding Berry Juice.
- When you leave the Cianwood Gym after defeating Chuck, a woman stops you and gives you HM02, Fly.
- Chuck has a level 29 Primeape; and a level 31 Poliwrath with Hypnosis, Focus Punch, Surf, and Body Slam, holding a Sitrus Berry. Chuck uses two Hyper Potions during the battle. He awards the Storm Badge, you can use Fly outside of battle, and you receive a TM01 Focus Punch.
- There is a waterfall in the middle of the Cianwood Gym. Chuck is standing right near the entry, but since he’s beneath the waterfall, he does not notice you when you speak to him. You must scale a rock facing to reach the top of the waterfall, battling trainers along the way, and cut off the flow of water. Once you interrupt Chuck’s meditation, he will battle you.
- After defeating Eusine, Hibiki/Kotone calls to say that something’s happening to the Magikarp at the Lake of Rage.
- Suicune is at the northern edge of Cianwood City. When you approach it, it flees. Eusine appears immediately afterward. “Yo, (trainer). Wasn’t that Suicune just now? I only caught a glimpse, but it looked like Suicune was running over the water. Suicune is awe-inspiringly beautiful. But to swiftly corner it in towns and on roads is also amazing! I want to become closer to Suicune…Okay! If I battle you, a Trainer, Suicune will be forced to acknowledge me! We’ll battle at once. Let’s go!” Eusine has a level 25 Drowzee with Disable, a level 25 Haunter with Mean Look, and a level 27 Electrode with Thunder. After you defeat Eusine, he says he understands what Suicune sees in you, that he will continue searching for Suicune, and the two of you will probably meet again.
- The Whirl Islands are still surrounded by giant whirlpools. It remains to be seen how Whirlpool, which was an HM in the original Gold and Silver, will be handled in this game.
- The Battle Frontier is west of Olivine, where the Battle Tower was in Crystal. It isn’t open at this point. A man is waiting at the entrance in hopes of being the first one in.
- The Lighthouse has been redesigned. Instead of simply taking ladders from one floor to another, you must now venture through windows, climb on the roof, and shimmy around the building to reach the top. The outdoor sections are rendered in 3D, and look very cool.
- TM87, Swagger, can be found in the Olivine Lighthouse.
- When you enter Olivine City, your Rival walks out of the Gym. “Oh, it’s you again! A weakling like you isn’t my rival! Speaking of weak, the Gym Leader isn’t in. She’s taking care of a weak Pokemon. Weak Pokemon don’t even matter.”
- You meet a man named Baoba on Route 38. He is from Kanto. He tells you he liked the Safari Zone there so much that he decided to make his own in Johto. He gives you his phone number.
- If you entrust your money to your mom, she buys you Berries and Repels.
- Morty has a level 21 Gastly; a level 21 Haunter with Hypnosis, Dream Eater, and Curse; a level 23 Haunter with Mean Look; and a level 25 Gengar with Sucker Punch and Shadow Ball holding a Sitrus Berry. All are the same levels as his original team. Morty also can use TWO Hyper Potions during the battle. He awards the Fog Badge, all Pokemon up to level 50 obey, you can use Surf outside of battle, and you receive a TM30 Shadow Ball.
- The interior of the Gym is completely dark. It’s freaky looking. There are candles to guide you as you walk across a narrow, zig-zag pathway to reach Morty. You can fall off the path, and when you do, you get warped back to the beginning of the level. You have to be careful as you walk because you can only see bits and pieces of the path. The Trainers that you fight in the Gym are holding candles. When you defeat them, their candles go out, making it even darker. If you leave the Gym or fall down, the candles go back on.
- Once you exit the tower, Eusine tells you the legend of Ho-Oh and the Legendary Beasts. “Long ago when this tower caught fire, three nameless Pokemon were trapped in the flames and perished. To resurrect them, the Rainbow Pokemon came down from the sky… The people of this town were terrified by that Pokemon’s power and tried to fight it. Instead of striking back at the people, the Pokemon left this place with a deep sadness for the deeds of the humans. This is a story that has been handed down to the Ecruteak City Gym Leaders. Me? I also used to be a Gym Leader. Mwohoho.”
- When you go downstairs, all three Pokemon roar, Entei and Raikou instantly jump away, and Suicune jumps around in a circle, stops in front of you, and roars before disappearing. Eusine comes downstairs after they leave and says, “Did you see it? Suicune’s incredible life force? I’ve been chasing Suicune for 10 years but this is the first time I’ve seen it so close. I’m deeply moved! Suicune took notice you, and according to the Ecruteak City legends, the Legendary Pokemon only align themselves with powerful Trainers. I am your rival now because I want Suicune too.”
- If you chose Cyndaquil, you Rival has a level 20 Gastly with Curse; a level 22 Croconaw with Scary Face, Bite, and Water Gun; a level 18 Magnemite with Supersonic, Thunder Wave, Thundershock, and Sonic Boom; and a level 20 Zubat. After he loses he says it’s okay, since you’re not going to capture the Legendaries.
- As you walk toward the back of the tower, your Rival approaches. “What are you doing here? Did you think you would catch the Legendary Pokemon to make yourself more powerful? That’s impossible! Because the Legendary Pokemon are going to be caught by me and I will become the strongest Trainer! At best, you’re suited to play with the Rocket grunts.”
- Morty introduces himself as well and says he heard his old friend Eusine was looking for Suicune, so the two of them went to the Burnt Tower to investigate it. “Ecruteak City has been associated with the Legendary Pokemon Suicune, Entei, and Raikou since long ago. As the Ecruteak Gym Leader, I know about this sort of thing.”
- As you approach Eusine, he notices you and introduces himself. He states he is looking for the Legendary Pokemon Suicune. He heard Suicune was in the Burnt Tower and came to investigate. He saw through the hole in the floor of the tower that Suicune was there. He asks if you see Suicune and the others (Entei and Raikou). Even if you go down there, he says, they will just run away.
- There are wild Koffing in the tower.
- Morty and Eusine are both in the Burnt Tower. You can see Entei, Suicune, and Raikou in a hole in its base.
- When you enter the Ecruteak City Gym, a Trainer from inside the Gym stops you and says that Morty is in the Burnt Tower.
- The old man walks up to you, congratulates you, and then gives you HM03, Surf.
- The geisha comes up to you and says, “You think you’ve seen me before? You have a powerful imagination! You seem to be raising your Pokemon well. You will definitely see that person.” Who’s that person?
- You battle the Grunt. He has a level 12 Koffing.
- In the Kimono Girls’ Dance Studio, a Team Rocket grunt complains that he doesn’t like the sentimental way a Kimono Girl dances. There is only one in the studio. The Kimono Girl speak in a classical, polite Japanese form while Team Rocket uses slang. He wants to see a spinning dance, but the Kimono Girl gets angry and tells him not to talk to her that way. He says he is a customer and she has to listen to his request. “Do you want me to show you how to do it? I’ll give you a good example!” He starts to spin around on the stage. An old man sitting there watching the geisha tells the player to stop him from harassing her. When you talk to the Grunt, he asks if you are planning to get in his way and attacks you.
- You receive the Itemfinder from a man in the house next to the Ecruteak Pokemon Center.
- Bangiras wants me to note that we’ll cover the Pokethlon events later. Yaminokame will also be covering the PokeWalker later too. Right now we’re in Ecruteak City. We’re not going to finish playing until the main story is finished. It’s only 2:00 PM here too so we still have 12-15 hours of stay-awake time. We can push ourselves much longer though. :p
- Backtracking: You can access Wi-Fi to find out your friend code, to trade, and to battle as soon as you receive your PokeDex.
- You can get Eevee at Bill’s house in Goldenrod City. It’s at level 5. He states that he used Eevee to prepare the Wi-Fi network.
- When you enter the Ecruteak City Pokemon Center, Bill comes down from the top floor and greets you. He asks you if you have ever heard of the Hoenn region. He states that he worked with Lanette there and she made the current storage system easier to use. He then departs for Goldenrod, his home.
- Sudowoodo is at level 20. After removing it, a woman gives you the Berry Planter, three Oran Berries, and three Pecha Berries. She’s from the Flower Shop in Goldenrod and returns there.
- Outside the Pokethlon stadium a woman gives you the Apricorn Shaker. It is added to your Apricorn Case.
- A man outside of the stadium can also take a picture of you and your Pokemon team, which is later viewable in a photo album on your PC.
- (Update) Inside the Pokethlon building it’s loud and there are videos on the walls of Pokemon competing. Whitney comes in and asks you if you are going to compete. She tells you that you have to prepare to compete in a Pokethlon. She asks, “Are you M or S?” (Medium or small) She then gives you a Jersey.
- Outside the building is a man named Kobushi with a Poliwrath. He refers to Pokemon competing in the Pokethlon events as “Pokethletes,” which is Pokemon + athlete.
- When you go to the Flower Shop and the lady sees your Plain Badge, she will give you the Squirtbottle, which you can then use to get rid of the Sudowoodo blocking Route 36 (and thus Ecruteak City).
- You get a free Bike in the Bike Shop like the old games. Once you make it a set item, you can use it from button Y or a touch screen button.
- You can also get Abra for 200, Ekans for 700, and Dratini for 2100.
- The prizes in the Game Corner are Substitute for 2000, Rest for 6000, Ice Beam for 10000, Swords Dance for 4000, and Flamethrower and Thunderbolt for 10000. For a 1000 are a Silk Scarf, Zoom Lens, and Metronome.
- A Coin Case is on the ground in the Underground; you use it for the Game Corner.
- When you enter the Underground, Kotone / Hibiki sees you and gives you an Accessory Case. He tells you that there is a shop where you can dress-up your Pokemon and take a photo.
- For sale at the Department Store are TMs 70, 17, 54, 83, 16, 33, 22, 38, 14, 52, 25, and 15.
- The Togepi that hatched knows Extrasensory.
- After Whitney finishes crying from losing, she tells you the Pokethlon building is now open next to National Park.
- Repeating some of the info from yesterday, Whitney is using a level 17 Clefairy and level 19 Miltank. Originally, both Pokemon were a level higher. Clefairy knows Mimic. Miltank knows Attract, Stomp, Milk Drink, and Rollout and is holding a Lum Berry. She can use TWO Super Potion during the battle. Whitney grants the player TM45 Attract for defeating her and the Plain Badge, which allows you to use Strength outside of battle. During the battle, she calls you a “fool” when she is losing.
- The Goldenrod Gym is shaped like a Clefairy. You navigate your way through the Gym by going above and below walls.
- The first question is: Can you view the Town Map from the PokeGear? Yes. Second question: Is the Pokemon Nidorina female? Yes. Third question: Does the Poke Ball maker Kurt use Apercerns? No. Fourth question: Is it true that Magikarp can’t use any TMs? Yes. Fifth question: Is the host on Professor Oak’s Pokemon radio show named Ramy? No. You then receive the Radio Card and Whitney says she is going back to her Gym.
- Whitney is inside the Radio Tower. “Hi, I’m Whitney! Right now, you can take a quiz to receive a Radio Card! I want one, but the quiz is really hard!
- In Goldenrod’s Game Corner, TM78, Captivate, is on the floor.
- As you approach the Daycare Center to the south of Goldenrod City, Kotone / Hibiki comes out of nowhere and yells to the old man standing outside. He thanks the man for raising his Pokemon so well. Kotone / Hibiki then takes you inside and introduces you to the old daycare woman, who he/she calls “granny.” Kotono / Hibiki are literally the grandchild of the daycare couple. The granny jokes about you being the boy/girlfriend of her grandchild. Your friend then gives you his phone number as does the daycare man.
- The Kimono Girl approaches you again. “It’s a horrible thing to be lost in the woods. You say you saw me back in Violet City? That must be your imagination! Do you know where the exit is?” The Pokemon you have out walks away from you and indicates the direction of the exit, and then returns to you. “You have a smart Pokemon! Farewell!”
- The Mysterious Egg hatches into Togepi, in case there was any doubt.
- Notched-Ear Pichu joins your party when you have Pikachu-Colored Pichu out next to you. It is holding a Zap Plate.
- When you enter Ilex Forest, you still chase Farfetch’d like in the original games. A man then gives you HM01, Cut.
- You battle the Rival as you are walking toward the Guard Station that leads to Ilex Forest. If you chose Cyndaquil as your starter, he has a level 14 Gastly, level 18 Croconaw, and level 16 Zubat. All of them are two levels higher than they were in the original games. After you defeat him, he says that he hates weaklings, and that goes for Team Rocket too.
- To repeat the info from yesterday, Bugsy has a level 15 Metapod, level 15 Kakuna, and level 17 Scyther. Each of them are one level higher than the original games. Scyther knows at least Focus Energy and Quick Attack and is holding a Sitrus Berry. He gives out a TM89 containing U-Turn. The Hive Badge allows Pokemon up to level 30 to obey and you can use Cut outside of battle.
- In the Gym you participate in a double battle against twins. Obviously, the original games did not have this battle, though the twins did battle you together with one Pokemon at a time.
- In the Azalea Gym you’re crossing a spider web over a chasm. You ride on top of Spinarak robots. Of the three robots, only one leads you to Bugsy. The others lead you to Trainers or dead ends. After this puzzle, the second one is the same thing, but you have to flip switches to control where the robots go.
- Kurt gives you a Speed Ball and then his granddaughter gives you his phone number. He also tells you, “Team Rocket was disbanded three years ago by a guy named Red, but they’re back again.”
- Rocket Executive Lance has a level 8 Zubat and a level 12 Koffing. You face him in the Slowpoke Well after you battle three Rocket Grunts.
- — The Battle Frontier Brains are the same ones from DPPt.
- When organizing your Pokemon in the PC Boxes, you can tap a Pokemon and it will show its basic information. If you hold down the stylus, you can move the Pokemon around and see its moves. It shows the moves in a little pop-up window.
- Kurt says, “The guy standing guard up-top (the Team Rocket member) made a big racket and fell down here. I fell down too and hurt my back and can’t move. If I was healthier, my Pokemon would take care of you in no time! [Name], show them the soul of a Trainer!”
- Upon entering Slowpoke Well, the cut-shot shows a view of the well looking down with a Slowpoke looking back up at you.
- When you meet Kurt, he says, “Oh, who are you? You’re [name]? You want me to make you a Poke Ball? Sorry, but I can’t right now. Do you know about Team Rocket? Well, it’s better you don’t. That Team Rocket uses Pokemon for evil! They broke up three years ago, but right now they’re down at the well chopping off Slowpoke’s tails to sell them. So, I’m going there to teach them a lesson! Okay, just hang in there Slowpoke! The man, Kurt, is coming to save you!”
- On the bottom screen you can rearrange your team very easily by using the stylus.
- Fixed a big mistake about Kotone and Hibiki’s names in the second-to-last point below. Those are their official names. Sorry for the confusion.
- Team Rocket is yelling at an old man: “What’s the matter? Don’t you know who we are? We’re the great Team Rocket!” “What? You thought we broke up? Don’t even joke about that.” “Well yeah, we did break up, but we’ve revived to achieve Giovanni’s ambitions!”
- It is raining on Route 33.
- You get an Old Rod at the Pokemon Center on Route 32.
- The Unown Note shows you what Unown you’ve caught. Next to each Unown, there is a word. For Unown G, it’s “Give.”
- Inside the Ruins of Alph, the puzzles are now moved by the stylus. Solving the first puzzle causes you to fall into the first basement. A scientist gives you something called an “Unown Note.” It probably records information about the Unown.
- Inside the caves you can hear running water. It’s a real pleasure to play these games.
- The Pokemon encounter rate is very high. You can’t walk 5 steps!!
- Route 32 has Hoppip, Bellsprout, Mareep, and Ekans (SoulSilver).
- On Route 32 a man gives you Miracle Seed.

- — Elite Four Bruno‘s team: Lv.42 Hitmontop, Lv.42 Hitmonlee, Lv.42 Hitmonchan, Lv.43 Onix,
Lv.46 Machamp. - As soon as you walk out of the Mart, one of the Kimono Girls comes up to you. She speaks in old style Japanese. She tells you to treat the egg kindly.
- When you enter the PokeMart, a red delivery man hands you a Super Potion that your mom bought for you. Elm’s assistant is also in the Mart and gives you the egg.
- When you leave the Gym, Professor Elm gives you a call on your PokeGear. He wants you to go to the PokeMart to pick up the Mysterious Egg, which originally contained a Togepi.
- Defeated Falkner. He has a level 9 Pidgey and level 13 Pidgeotto, as the girl revealed yesterday (reposting just to be complete). The Zephyr Badge allows you to use Rock Smash. He gives TM51, Roost.
- — Elite Four Karen has a Lv.42 Umbreon, Lv.42 Vileplume, Lv.45 Gengar, Lv.44 Murkrow, and Lv.46 Houndoom.
- As soon as you enter Violet City Gym, a huge platform bursts out of the ground and lifts you up to a top floor. This is where you will battle Falkner and two of his Gym members. You can also walk around the members, so it’s optional to battle them.
- — Give credit to where you got the team info from ya foos. :p Will, the first Elite Four member, has a Lv.40 Xatu, Lv.41 Jynx, Lv.41 Exeggutor, Lv.41 Slowbro, and a Lv.42 Xatu.
- When you use an Escape Rope, both you and your Pokemon spin around and leave.
- Of note: The Rival does not have a Pokemon out with him. This is probably because he is not close to his Pokemon.
- — Brock’s team: Lv.51 Rhyhorn, Lv.53 Omastar, Lv.54 Onix, Lv.52 Kabutops. Elite Four teams coming soon.
- — Misty‘s team: Lv.49 Golduck, Lv.49 Quagsire, Lv.52 Lapras, Lv.54 Starmie.

- — Lt. Surge‘s team: Lv.51 Raichu, Lv.47 Electrode, Lv.47 Magneton, Lv.47 Electrode, Lv.53 ELectabuzz.
- When you get to the top of Sprout Tower, your Rival is finishing a battle with the elder. The elder tells him he doesn’t like the way he treats his Pokemon and that they are not tools of war. The Rival then approaches you and tells you he only wants strong Pokemon, not weak ones (like Paul in the show). He leaves by using an Escape Rope.
- Your Rival is in the Sprout Tower.
- — Erika has Lv.51 Jumpluff, Lv.52 Tangela, Lv.56 Victreebell, and Lv.56 Bellossom.
- While Bangiras was playing HeartGold, she encountered Caterpie, Metapod, and Pidgey. As I’m playing SoulSilver, I’m seeing Weedle, Kakuna, and Ledyba.
- There are lilypads (not Lotad) in the ponds.
- — Janine, Koga’s replacement, has a Lv.47 Crobat, Lv.44 Weezing, Lv.47 Ariados, another Lv.47 Ariados, and Lv.50 Venomoth.
- Inside the Sprout Tower, you can see its central beam swinging slowly to the left and right. You can also hear it swaying.
- — Sabrina has a Lv.53 Espeon, Lv.53 Mr. Mime, and Lv.55 Alazakam.
- Going from Route 31 to Violet City, your friend gives you the Battle Recorder.
- All of the old places where you found Berries in the original games are now Apricorns. For example, the Black Apricorn used to be a BitterBerry. Thus, the old Berries have now been replaced by Apricorns.
- Route 31 has Bellsprout and Metapod. There is also a Black Apricorn.
- — Jason is still looking through the game data: Green has a Lv.55 Exeggutor, Lv.58 Arcanine, Lv.58 Rhydon, Lv.52 Gyarados, Lv.56 Machamp, and Lv.60 Pidgeot.
- When you get close to the ocean you can hear the waves.
- The Poke Mart now has a rotating sign next to it.
- — The game data has revealed to us that Blaine has a Lv.54 Magcargo, a Lv.54 Magmar, and a Lv.59 Rapidash.
- When you go to heal your Pokemon at the Pokemon Center, the Pokemon following you will hop into its PokeBall, which you will then hand over to Nurse Joy.
- — Jason, our rom hacker, has discovered Red’s team in the game data: Lv.88 Pikachu, Lv.80 Lapras, Lv.82 Snorlax, Lv.84 Charizard, Lv.84 Venusaur, Lv.84 Blastoise.
- You still get one Premiere Ball for every 10 Poke Balls you purchase from the Mart. The original Gold and Silver did not have Premiere Balls.
- Route 29 also has Rattata.
- You run into your friend as you are leaving Newbark Town and he shows you how to capture a Pokemon. After, he gives you five Poke Balls.
- Your Mom says she’ll hold your money for you. “Leave it to me!”
- You show Elm the egg and he exclaims in excitement that he has never seen it before. He then says you can keep your starter (we’re using Cyndaquil, btw) and that you should challenge Gym Leaders to one day become the Champion. He tells you that you should go see your Mom then go to Violet City.
- When you go back to Elm’s lab, one of the police says, “Rule #1: The criminal always returns to the scene of the crime. You aren’t the criminal, are you?” (Sounds just like Officer Jenny in the Cerulean City episode.) But then your friend (the opposite-gender character) comes in and defends you. “You’re saying you battled with that kid? Do you remember his name?” Now you get to name him. Your friend then literally says, “I’m so glad you were cleared! Cya later!”
- The Rival starts to walk away, but then comes back and accuses you of having his Trainer card (he dropped it). He says, “Oh, you saw my name.” When you go back to Elm’s lab you’ll name him.
- Your Rival: “You got a Pokemon from the laboratory before! It looks like a weak Pokemon. You don’t understand what I’m saying? I have a good Pokemon so I’ll show you!” After defeat: “Are you happy that you won? You want to know who I am? I’m the man who will become the strongest Pokemon Trainer in the world!”
- Hitting the X-button allows you to use the D-pad on the bottom screen rather than the stylus.
- Like previous games, you go to see Mr. Pokemon, Professor Oak is in the house, and you receive the Mystery Egg, which must be delivered to Elm. Oak gives you your PokeDex and it appears on the menu on the bottom screen. He also gives you his phone number.
- When you pick an Apricorn, it pops out of the ground, jumps into the air, and then you catch it and put it into your Apricorn Case.
- There is a single Pink Apricorn and a single Green Apricorn on Route 30.
- On Route 30, there are two kids battling, which prevents you from getting to Route 31 (and thus Violet City). You can actually see their Pokemon bouncing off each other, so it looks like a real battle.
- — Jason, our master rom hacker, is currently dumping the Trainer data for the game. We should have all the Gym leader rosters soon.
- In the first house you pass on Route 30, a man gives you the Apricorn Case. He tells you there is an old man (Kurt) who makes Poke Ball Apricorns for Trainers once a day.
- Route 30 has Caterpie, Metapod, Pidgey. It’s hard to go through the route because Metapod keeps using Harden and all you have is Tackle. The encounter rate seems to be the same as DPPt.
- As you leave the city to go to Route 30, the “Energetic High-Speed Old Man” gives you a Town Map. The map appears on the PokeGear, which is located on the bottom screen.
- There are two ways to use the Running Shoes. You can do it by holding down B like traditionally, or you can hit a little button with shoes on it on the touch screen and you will run automatically without having to hit B.
- When you get to Cherrygrove City a man nicknamed “Energetic High-Speed Old Man” gives you a tour. He is running fast and you cannot keep up with him. After you take the tour, he gives you your Running Shoes.
- Pidgey and Sentret are in the wild between Newbark Town and Cherrygrove City (Route 29).
- You run into the opposite character and they say you should show your Pokemon to your mom. When you go see her she gives you the PokeGear and her phone number. As you are leaving town, Elm gives you his phone number as well.
- When you go to Elm he says they are researching how Pokemon walking with their Trainers affects them. As soon as you get the starter Pokemon it appears behind you and you can’t turn off the option of it walking with you. A lab assistant then gives you a Potion.
- She gives you your Bag, your Trainer Card, your Save function, and your Options. They appear on the bottom screen. You won’t get the PokeGear until after you get your Pokemon from Elm.
- Mom says she saw your friend (either Kotone or Hibiki) with a Marill following them. She says that Elm wants to you to go to his lab.
- The girl is named Kotone and the boy is named Hibiki.
- Check the previous story for Gym Leader rosters. Claire’s was just posted.
