Prism Star Stadium, Alolan Ninetales-GX, and Mimikyu-GX in Upcoming Sets!
A Japanese card shop has informed us that Pokemon has sent teasers about a few cards from upcoming sets. Pokemon has done this a few times in the past when shops have placed their preorders, but not since the mid-2000’s, so don’t take this as confirmed information yet.
SM7a Thunderclap Spark will apparently feature the first ever Stadium card that’s a Prism Star card. It will reduce the attack costs for a certain Pokemon type by one Energy. For example, Lighting-type Pokemon could have to pay one less Energy to use their attacks.
SM7b Fairy Rise will feature a new Fairy-type Alolan Ninetales-GX. Upon playing it from your hand to evolve Alolan Vulpix, its Ability allows you to search your deck for any two Item cards and put them into your hand. The set will also feature the first ever Mimikyu-GX (we’ve only gotten a Psychic-type Team Rocket’s Mimikyu-GX so far). We’re not sure if the new Mimikyu-GX will be Fairy or Psychic-type.
I should note that there have only been completely different Pokemon-GX of a few Pokemon. These Pokemon are Zygarde and Lycanroc (because of their formes), Solgaleo and Lunala (because they’re the version mascots of this generation), and Mr. Mime (because it’s a special remake case from the past). There have also been alternate types of some Pokemon-GX, but they weren’t completely new cards. So other than these special cases, this would be the very first time a Pokemon is getting a second completely different GX card just ‘cuz.
Thanks goes to Bangiras for translating the messages from the Japanese store owner!
And just so everyone is on the same page…
SM7 Charisma of the Wrecked Sky is a 96+ card set releasing in Japan on June 1st. It’ll be a Hoenn-themed set and will feature Rayquaza-GX, Blaziken-GX, and Stakataka-GX. Its cards will be used for our Celestial Storm set in August.
SM7a Thunderclap Spark is a 60+ card set featuring Zeraora-GX and will release in Japan on July 6th to tie in with the 21st movie featuring Zeraora and Lugia. Its dummy booster pack artwork showed Virizion, Genesect, and Magcargo would be in the set. The set will feature “fast” Pokemon-GX (and I guess slow Magcargo).
SM7b Fairy Rise is a 50+ card set releasing August 3rd and will feature Fairy, Grass, and Psychic-types. Its dummy booster pack artwork showed Xerneas, Alolan Ninetales, and Mimikyu would be in the set.
