Japan’s ’25th Anniversary Collection’ Set Officially Revealed!
Japan has officially announced its 25th Anniversary Collection set, which we first revealed through product listings two weeks ago.
So far only Mew has been revealed:
Mew – Psychic – HP60
Basic PokemonAbility: Wonder Tail
Once during your turn, if this Pokemon is your Active Pokemon, you may look at the top 6 cards of your deck. Choose 1 Item card you find there, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then shuffle the other cards back into your deck.[P][C] Psycho Shot: 30 damage.
Weakness: Darkness (x2)
Resistance: Fighting (-30)
Retreat: 1
As posted before, 25th Anniversary Collection will feature 28 cards (before secret rares). All of the cards will be holo. Most of the Pokemon will be Mythical Pokemon and Legendary Pokemon. The set will release on October 22nd.
October will also see the release of a “25th Anniversary Edition” promo booster pack containing one of 25 iconic cards from the TCG’s history. As posted before, you will receive it if you purchase four booster packs of 25th Anniversary Collection from Pokemon Center stores.
So far only Base Set Venusaur has been revealed, but we know we’ll also be getting Charizard in our English set. And I doubt they’ll forget Blastoise!
Differences from the original Venusaur include the 25th anniversary stamp, new holofoil paper, a different set ID and card number, and modern copyright information. The cards in our Celebrations subset will probably get a similar treatment. It also looks like it features some of the “texture” found on secret rares in modern sets.
The remade cards will not be legal for modern tournament play. It will be the same in English too.
A “25th Anniversary Golden Box” will also release in Japan on October 22nd for 17,600 yen. It will contain…
- A gold Poke Ball card
- A gold Pikachu V card
- A 60 card deck that’s completely holo
- A set of 64 “premium gloss” card sleeves
- A foil stamped rubber playmat
- Metal dice and condition markers
- A synthetic leather deck case
- A synthetic leather playmat case
- A synthetic leather dice case
- A Pokemon coin
- 5 of the 25th anniversary promo packs
Pikachu and Poke Ball are labeled out of 15 cards, so we will probably see over a dozen cards from this become part of our Celebrations set.
The cards from 25th Anniversary Collection and its associated promo booster pack will be used to create our Celebrations set in October. Our set will contain over 45 cards, including a 25-card subset called “Classic Collections” that will feature reprinted Pokemon like Venusaur and Charizard.
Update: Pokemon Japan has also opened a promotional site for the set, which shows several cards from the TCG’s history. These could be hints as to what cards we’ll see. Or simply a retrospective!
