All ‘Celebrations’ Cards, Promos, Products Revealed — Full Set Details!
Pokemon has updated PTCGO with all the cards from Celebrations! These are digital images and do not fully represent how the cards look when printed on Pokemon’s holofoil paper. They are “non-holo” images.
The set’s products will officially hit store shelves on October 8th. As posted before, each Celebrations booster pack contains four holo cards. Celebrations booster packs can only be found within Celebrations products.
‘Celebrations’ Main Set
The main set contains 25 brand new cards featuring Legendary Pokemon, Pikachu, and Professor Oak. The Legendary Pokemon represent every generation.
The regular holos are printed on a holofoil paper that doesn’t have any kind of pattern or effect to the foil — there’s no galaxies, bubbles, swirls, or lines. The foil is simply reflective (see Mew below). This is the same holofoil paper that was used for the Generations Radiant Collection.
The Pokemon V and full art cards use the same texture and holofoil as regular sets.
The Pikachu cards are what I would call “remakes.” They’re inspired by classic cards, but they’re updated with modern stats and effects, which means they’re considered new cards. This is similar to what Evolutions did with Base Set. However, these cards go one step further because they have new artwork paying homage to the originals (which the TCG has done before, like with Charizard from Stormfront). The VMAX Pikachu are also new cards that pay homage to the originals.
All 25 cards are tournament-legal because they’re new and have “E” regulation marks.
Classic Collections
The “Classic Collections” sub-set contains 25 reprinted cards from the TCG’s history. Each card was once loved by collectors (like Charizard), was extremely popular in decks of its era (like Claydol), or both (like Blastoise).
Like all reprints, the cards have some differences to distinguish them from the originals. In this case they feature a 25th anniversary stamp, an etching over the cards like modern secret rares, they’re printed on the holofoil paper used for the McDonalds promos, and the Wizards of the Coast copyright has been removed from the Gen 1 cards.
Otherwise, they use the same text, templates, set numbers, and everything else as the originals. TPCi obviously opened the original files and just slapped the 25th anniversary stamp over them.
None of the 25 cards are tournament-legal for Standard because they don’t have a regulation mark. This is by design. Many of them feature old mechanics that aren’t compatible with modern cards. Some of them would also be broken in modern decks. A trading card game can change a lot in 20 years, and these reprints sure show it!
However, Reshiram through Tapu Lele-GX are legal in Expanded because their original prints are still legal in that format.
Update: It looks like the fonts on some of the older cards are slightly different, perhaps due to changes in software rendering over the years. It probably wasn’t on purpose and likely wasn’t noticed.
*To me* it looks like the fonts on the old Celebrations cards is a bit different than the originals, like the “Pokemon Power: Energy Burn” text on Charizard. Perhaps new versions of Photoshop render the fonts differently?

‘Celebrations’ Promos
Several of the promos associated with this set mix old mechanics with new Pokemon, like Light Toxtricity. They’re what I might call “anachronisms.” The Pokemon didn’t exist at the time the mechanics they represent were used. It’s as if these cards could have existed during those eras. Each card uses the same art style, templates, and attack effects as a card might have at the time.
This is also why they have a note on the bottom that says they’re not modern for tournament-play. Technically they don’t need that note since they don’t have regulation marks, but they’re “new” cards with SWSH promo numbering, so TPCi wants to make you double-sure you can’t use them in tournaments.
