Pokemon fans in Japan have started opening their VMAX Climax booster packs and posting their pulls to social media and auction websites.
All of the secret rares in this set are reprints of existing cards with new artwork.
#185-#212: Character Rares (CHR)
Character Rares are regular Pokemon with a notable Trainer in their artwork. This type of card first debuted in 2019’s Dream League, which became part of our Cosmic Eclipse.
#212-#254: Character Super Rares (CSR)
Character Super Rares are Pokemon V or VMAX with a notable Trainer in their artwork. This type of rarity is new to this set due to the introduction of Pokemon V since regular Character Rares first debuted.
#255-#277: Secret Rares (SR)
There are no Rainbow Rares in this set! This could be due to the high volume of Trainers they wanted to feature. Or it may be because Pokemon won’t be making Rainbow Rares anymore. We should find out what’s happening in the next set.
#278-#285: Ultra Rares (UR)
Black and gold Ultra Rares first debuted in 2020’s Shiny Star V, which became part of 2021’s Shining Fates. Not all of them have been revealed yet, but you can easily guess what they’ll look like!
English Release
The set description for Brilliant Stars says it will feature 30 cards in a “Trainer Gallery” subset, so we’ll obviously be getting some of the Character Rares on February 25th.
But this also means we won’t be seeing all 70 of them in February. TPCi may split them across a few sets starting with Brilliant Stars. Or they could release the regular “Character Rares” in Brilliant Stars and save the “Character Super Rares” for our holiday set. We’ll find out soon!
The arts are gorgeous, but 40 super rares seems a bit hefty, even by current standards. The base 30 regular cards is a good enough number, but damn, adding in all the super rares too makes for a massive assortment of secret rares, assuming they will all be secret rares in Brilliant Stars.
I'm just so impressed by the quality of art for the character rares whether at the secret rare level or otherwise. This is such a smart way to make reprints attractive compared to rainbow or gold rares. I hope to see more artistically creative subsets like this in 2022.
That is a LOT of cards! It's interesting to note that all of the character cards have the same character on their Vs as their Vmaxes, with the exception of Urshifu. It does stink that we can't see the character (probably Zinnia) on Rayquaza at the moment though.
I’m pretty spot on with the list I made for the secret rares. Bar a couple they were character rares versions but of the cards already in the set For example 213-215 is Kriketune V, Orbeetle V and VMax
