Sableye from ‘Triplet Beat’!

Sableye was revealed from the upcoming Japanese set SV1a Triplet Beat, which releases on March 10th. Cards from this set will most likely become part of our second Scarlet & Violet set releasing at the end of June.

Sableye – Darkness – HP70
Basic Pokemon

[C] Dark Eye: Your opponent’s Active Pokémon is now Asleep.

[D] Unseen Claw: 20+ damage. If your opponent’s Active Pokémon is affected by a Special Condition, this attack does 70 more damage.

Weakness: Grass (x2)
Resistance: None
Retreat: 1

I'm just gonna copy-paste this comment under every new Pokemon where it applies, if you feel the need to design Pokemon that hit above their own HP, then their own HP should be higher.

Especially for Sableye that usually has some kind of gimmick or utility in the TCG to compensate for its low HP. This one has none.

In sableyes defense, it will probably just be a common or uncommon so it’s hp doesn’t matter as much

Pokebeach, can you at least group all these bad cards together to at least look like something of substance
It’s all about being first to report I’d imagine.
Dmein is on to something. The problem with waiting until more cards have piled up are 1) people who get their news from Pokébeach won’t know the cards exist until weeks later, and 2) people who get this news directly from the source will capitalize on the news instead.

Missed opportunity to reprint the perfectly balance Sableye from Dark Explorers
They’d probably need to ban it in expanded if they did, but it might make gameplay more interesting in standard. Standard doesn’t have nearly as many game-breaking items as expanded does, especially now that Chip Chip Ice Axe has rotated out of standard (unless that card was banned in standard as well as expanded?).

It's Creatures'/TPC's/whoever's (I know Creatures makes the cards, IDK who's in charge of revealing them) decision to reveal the cards bit by bit like this. Pokebeach is a news site, of course they're going to report on each piece of news that comes out, regardless of how interesting it is.

But yeah...very boring card. But in a way it feels even sillier because there's an amazing Sableye in Standard that's a major piece of the second biggest archetype.

It matters for the general HP curve

Back when the HP curve was:

Basic 60-70

Stage 1 80

Stage 2 90-110

?? ?? 40-50

?? ? ?? 50-60

Then your uncommon stage 1 still had 70-80 HP.

The first problem is 70 HP is quite low for a non-evolving Basic (it's the same as Basculin and 30 HP less than Alomomola), since it gets OHKO'ed by other threats such as Revenge Bouffalant, Reshiram, and Zekrom. One energy 90 damage is nice, but it requires the opponent to have stayed in the active spot for a turn - should see more play once Hypnotoxic laser + Virbank are released so that you can OHKO Reshiram and Zekrom with a single special darkness energy. The other, albeit slightly larger, problem is that it isn't 2011 and Black and White have been out for over 12 years at this point.

Come on Creatures, you can do better than this...

Friends, we can end this travesty today.
Every year, many amazing artwork become wasted and put onto bad cards that don't do anything.
We can end this vicious cycle now.
Donate to the GAGC. The Good Art, Good Card Foundation
Together, we can reduce binder filler, and put jank in its place.
We put cards on the table and have them be played as the game intended.
