“Obsidian Flames,” August’s English Set!

We can exclusively reveal August’s English set will be named Scarlet & Violet: Obsidian Flames. The set logo hasn’t been revealed yet.

The set will officially release on August 11th. Prereleases will take place from July 29th to August 6th.

As the name indicates, the set will be comprised of the cards from July’s Ruler of the Black Flame, which will feature a Tera Darkness-type Charizard ex. The set will also include the 30ish cut cards from our SV2 set. July’s eight ex Starter Decks should also be tossed into the set.

The TCG featured a Darkness-type “Charizard ☆ δ” in 2006’s EX Dragon Frontiers. It was a Delta Species Pokemon, which were Pokemon of unusual types.

In the TCG’s lore, scientists from the Holon region were working at a secret researching tower trying to find Mew. One day, an experiment went wrong, and an energy wave escaped from the tower and surrounded the forest. Then Delta Species Pokemon appeared with types they weren’t naturally born with. The TCG featured four Delta Species sets from 2005 to 2006 (an especially nostalgic time for me, as it was only three years into starting PokeBeach).

Now the main series games are doing a similar concept with Terastalization — so the TCG will be going full circle in Obsidian Flames!
