“Raging Surf” Now Releasing in September with Tera Mewtwo ex and Tera Skeledirge ex Decks!

Multiple Japanese distributors are now listing Raging Surf as releasing on September 21st. Originally, it was listed as releasing on May 19th. We’re not sure if there was an error with the initial release date or if something changed on Pokemon’s end. So the set won’t be revealed this week, as we previously expected.

This new date lines up with the fact June’s Pokemon Card 151 is SV2a, which puts it directly after April’s SV2 Snow Hazard & Clay Burst. This means there won’t be a new Japanese set for the next two months. This is a little unusual for Japan’s release schedule.

We’ve now learned Raging Surf will feature 62 cards before secret rares, including Garchomp ex. As we previously reported, the set will be headlined by Gholdenego ex. We also think we may see Palafin ex. A surfing dude, a land shark, and a superhero dolphin… oh my! The set will be another “Strengthening Expansion Pack” subset like Pokemon Card 151, Battle Region, and Pokemon GO.

A “Starter Set Terrastal Mewtwo ex” and “Starter Set Terastal Skeledirge ex” will also release on September 21st. Each 60-card deck should feature around 20 unique cards.

The two decks will release after Ruler of the Black Flame, which features a Darkness-type Charizard ex. It’s possible Terastal Pokemon releasing after July will be unusual types. We’ve already received a Skeledirge ex, so a new one headlining its own deck would have to be significantly different. The fact both decks mention “Tera” in their product titles seems to be foreshadowing this.

This updated release schedule means our SV3 set in August / September will be comprised of the 100ish cards from July’s Ruler of the Black Flame, the 100ish cards from July’s eight ex Starter Decks, the 30ish cut cards from our SV2 set, and other promos. Our special fall set should be the English version of Pokemon Card 151. And then our November set should be comprised of Raging Surf and beyond.
