Massive Second Wave of Pikachu Van Gogh Promos Releasing This Weekend, Third Wave Also Coming!

Intertoys and MediaMarkt stores have announced they will be giving out another batch of Pikachu Van Gogh promos this Saturday, February 24th. As with the first wave, customers will have to spend 30 euros on Pokemon TCG products.

This promotion will come to all of their stores once again. Both chains have over 260 stores combined. Last time they received an average of 150 copies per store (from 75 to 650 copies).

Although not announced yet, we can confirm many Primera and Bruna stores will also get a restock this weekend. Last time each of them received 25, 50, or 75 copies.

Additionally, we’ve learned that Intertoys stores will be holding at least one more giveaway — a third wave. We don’t know when it will take place, but it could be in two Saturdays again.

We originally estimated the initial giveaway could inject 100,000 copies of “Pikachu with Grey Felt Hat” into the global market. It’s now clear this is underestimating the ultimate total.

Currently the price for the promo sits at roughly 60 euros on Cardmarket, or double what fans paid to receive it. From January to early February it cost 105 to 120 euros. This means the first wave cut the cost by 25% to 50%.

On TCGplayer the price is now around $114, down from $130 to $160 from December to early February. This means the first wave cut the cost by 15% to 30%. The American market is more expensive because copies have to be shipped here.

We’ll see how much more the price continues to drop over the coming weeks, especially after the third wave hits!
