Budew from Terastal Festival

Budew has been revealed from Terastal Festival, which releases in Japan on December 6th. We expect most of the unreleased cards from this set to become part of the international set Prismatic Evolutions, which releases in January.

Budew – Grass – HP30
Basic Pokémon

[.] Itchy Pollen: 10 damage. During your opponent’s next turn, they can’t play any Item cards from their hand.

Weakness: Fire (x2)
Resistance: None
Retreat: 1

This will be the first Budew card since Diamond & Pearl: Stormfront in November of 2008.

That's pretty nuts, Budew is the longest unprinted Pokémon AND it's got a pretty busted attack. Item locking on a Basic without even requiring an energy is huge.

I have a feeling this will see as much if not more play than Cleffa. Using this going second can completely nullify your opponent's chances of setting-up. Decks that rely on Rare Candy like Pidgeot, Charizard, Dusknoir, etc can't do anything. No Nest Ball, Ultra Ball, Buddy-Buddy Poffin, Earthen Vessel either. There's a reason why Banette ex is suddenly seeing a lot of play and scoring good results.

WHY IS THIS NOT AN IGGLYBUFF CARD

It's actually a pretty crazy card, guaranteed item lock until they KO it. I think it might work better in off-meta decks, that need a bit of time to set up without some broken engine.

Free retreat, free attack with item lock? I don’t see any reason not including one in any deck

This will see play as a one off in Banette/Gardy or Dusknoir, now we don't have to rely on T1 salavador or hitting heads on the shuppet.

Could be a funny 1 of in control. Idk if it should be included in every deck tho
