“Pokemon Champions” Game Announced for Switch and Mobile, Features Core Pokemon Battles!

A Pokemon Champions game was revealed during today’s Pokemon Presents! It will release for the Switch and mobile.

Pokémon Champions continues the tradition of Trainers pitting their skills against those of others from around the world, with the aim of allowing core game-style battles to be enjoyed by more players than ever before.

This new, battle-focused game will feature familiar mechanics such as Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves, creating an environment conducive to rich and varied strategies for new and experienced Trainers alike Look forward to cross-platform battles alongside your favorite Pokémon on Nintendo Switch and mobile, with a variety of different modes available for your desired experience.

Pokemon Champions will also be compatible with HOME, allowing Trainers to team up with Pokemon brought over from previous Pokemon games in addition to those they partner with in Pokemon Champions.

It is developed by The Pokemon Works and GAME FREAK.

But showdown is free
Which reminds me, we still don’t know if this is going to be free with purely cosmetic microtransactions, pay-to-win, subscription based, or a flat purchase? (Realistically probably subscription based or pay to win.) Also, will there be any sort of in-game story mode like in, say, Pokémon Duel?

By the way, it would be interesting if this game supports as many languages as Pokémon GO (If not more) and is as widely available. Consoles and computers are not nearly as widely available as phones, so it would be interesting to see people from countries without a large Nintendo console presence participate in competitive Pokémon VGC (Whether competitively or not).

They said in the trailer that mainline games and this one will now support more languages so it's very possible

Wasn’t it just one additional language, though? That means 10 or 11 languages total. Pokémon GO has 15, and even that is low compared to the 48 languages the anime has been dubbed in over the years, or the 28 languages that Minecraft: Bedrock Edition (Available on phones) supports (Java supports 128, but technically 8 of them are constructed, and, as mentioned before, computers aren’t as widespread).

I saw Terastilization and Mega Evolution, but what about Z-Moves and Dynamaxing
The designs of the main characters for the game feature Dynamax Gloves alongside Mega Rings. It would stand to reason that they have the capacity to invoke the power of Z-Crystals as well.

It's just that we have no guarantee that any or all of these mechanics will overlap at any given time. If this game is going to turn into the main VGC hub during the foreseeable future, there will certainly be rotating regulations as per usual.
