“Pokemon Card Game MEGA” Trademarked, Goodbye “Scarlet & Violet!”
A new trademark for Pokemon Card Game MEGA has been filed by Pokemon Japan.
While it’s under the same terms as trademarks used for set names, this trademark is likely referring to the name of the next series of sets that will begin with Legends: Z-A. The first MEGA sets will be named Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia.
Furthermore, on Pokemon Day, TPCi announced the English set to feature Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex will be part of the “Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution Series.” All of this means the Scarlet & Violet series will end soon, including its Owner’s Pokemon and Tera Pokemon (which appear to have already been phased out).
The last time Pokemon ended a TCG series mid-generation was during the Diamond & Pearl series in 2009. They introduced the HeartGold & SoulSilver series to celebrate the game remakes. In the case of this new Mega Evolution series, it seems Pokemon wants to treat Legends: Z-A as a major game release that deserves its own TCG marketing.
