“Pokemon Card Game MEGA” Trademarked, Goodbye “Scarlet & Violet!”

A new trademark for Pokemon Card Game MEGA has been filed by Pokemon Japan.

While it’s under the same terms as trademarks used for set names, this trademark is likely referring to the name of the next series of sets that will begin with Legends: Z-A. The first MEGA sets will be named Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia.

Furthermore, on Pokemon Day, TPCi announced the English set to feature Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex will be part of the “Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution Series.” All of this means the Scarlet & Violet series will end soon, including its Owner’s Pokemon and Tera Pokemon (which appear to have already been phased out).

The last time Pokemon ended a TCG series mid-generation was during the Diamond & Pearl series in 2009. They introduced the HeartGold & SoulSilver series to celebrate the game remakes. In the case of this new Mega Evolution series, it seems Pokemon wants to treat Legends: Z-A as a major game release that deserves its own TCG marketing.

Will this be similar to the tag team "year" for pokemon? (Team up - Cosmic) Tag Teams werent printed for a full year to my knowledge so I assume we will just get like 80% of a year of these sets until gen 10 releases? I might be missing something

Man this is the first time since Call of Legends where we got a brand new era whose name has no relation to the main line games. I know this may not happen, but it’ll be awesome to finally see a reboot to this tcg in terms of power level. Like either make the non-rule-box Pokemon stronger, or nerf the already established rule-box Pokemon similar to what they are currently on in Pocket or was in early Sun and Moon.

Makes a degree of sense considering it's going to be a 4 year gap between Gens 9 and 10.

A shame we didn't get at least 1 Tera card for each type, though.
Literally nothing makes me more mad then the fact they didn’t make a card for each of the tera hats designs… just not making all the versions in full arts SURE. FINE. But not even 1 card for poison rock or flying? CRIMINAL. And orgepon doesn’t count because that is not the hat 😮‍💨

As a collector I made a 18 card binder spread for each of the typings hoping to fill them in as they dropped and have a full gallery of each of the typing - then went ahead and made a second 18 card spread for full art versions - then when they announced stellar I made space for 2 more 18 card spread assuming they’d potentially hit all the types with a stellar crown / full art stellars - what a clown I am 🤡 thinking that TPC would make cards to show off their hard worked designs and new/limited mechanics. God forbid the generational gimmick be present in the cards right??

The cards fumbled TERA Soooooo BAD. We should’ve had sets like delta species with entire family lines all type shifted -

RANT:
LIKE….**Every. Single. Pokémon.** in these games can have a tera type WHY DIDNT WE SEE BASICS/EARLY STAGE TERA in evolution lines ?!? Why NOTHING in way of type shifting for anything but a handful of Pokémon ? They hated/resented what they made the gimmick in the games and having to handle it in the cards was a massive struggle and it SHOWS.

I think so! What would make it extra cool is if they included some Tera ex’s, some Trainer’s Pokémon, and maybe even some last minute Ace Specs to cap off the era. I doubt it but it would be so cool.
I expect and end of era-9 like Set combing SV and Mega at the end.
I also think the Illustration Contest Cards are numerical the last SV Promos.

Man, I really thought S&V would be another 4-year block for the first time since Emerald, but instead it’s like Gen 4. This is an interesting development.
