“MEGA Dream ex” and “Abyss Eye” Trademarked for the Pokemon TCG!
Two new trademarks for MEGA Dream ex (MEGAドリームex) and Abyss Eye (アビスアイ) have been filed by Pokemon. They're under the same terms as trademarks used for set names in the past.
MEGA Dream ex sounds like Japan's annual High Class Pack set that releases every November or December. They always have card mechanics in the name, such as Terastal Festival ex, Shiny Treasure ex, VSTAR Universe, VMAX Climax, Shiny Star V, TAG All Stars, and GX Ultra Shiny. In this case, we have both "MEGA" and "ex" in the title.
Abyss Eye should be referring to a new Mega Evolution that will appear in Legends: Z-A. Perhaps something related to the deep sea. The name of course can have multiple meanings; it's not as obvious as Ninja Spinner or Storm Emeralda.
We usually discover trademarks around six months before they go into use. Trademarks are sometimes revealed out of order, especially when revealed in batches like this, so it's hard to tell when each of these will release.
Here is the current Japanese TCG schedule:
- August 1st: Mega Brave and Mega Symphonia featuring Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex.
- September 5th: Two preconstructed decks named “Starter Set Mega Gengar ex” and “Starter Set Mega Diancie ex.”
- September 26th: Inferno X featuring Mega Charizard (X) ex.
- October 16th: Legends: Z-A releases worldwide.
- (?): Ninja Spinner featuring Mega Greninja ex?
- (?): Storm Emeralda featuring Mega Rayquaza ex?
- (?): Abyss Eye
- (?): MEGA Dream ex releasing in November or December?
