Starting Feb. 22, 2022, Pokémon fans in Canada will be able to preview Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Live during the limited beta for iOS and Android, as well as Windows PC and macOS devices, before the online game launches around the world. Limited-beta participants will have the opportunity to play the upcoming Sword & Shield—Brilliant Stars in Pokémon TCG Live prior to the expansion’s global release.

Developed and published by The Pokémon Company International, Pokémon TCG Live is a new online game that allows players to enjoy the Pokémon Trading Card Game in an updated digital format. Similar to the tabletop version of the Pokémon TCG that fans have loved for over 25 years, Pokémon TCG Live features fan-favorite activities like building decks and battling with friends, as well as gameplay modes and daily quests for all types of players regardless of their skill level.

Canadian players can access the limited beta on mobile devices via the Apple App Store and Google Play, and on Windows PC and macOS devices by downloading the app from Pokemon.ca/TCGL, when the testing period goes live on February 22, 2022. They will also be able to enjoy cross-platform play during the limited beta. Furthermore, Pokémon TCG Online players will have the option of playing Pokémon TCG Live during the testing period without losing access to the Pokémon TCG Online app.

Pokémon TCG Live will be globally released in the future as a free-to-play game with no in-app purchases, and will receive ongoing content and feature updates post-launch. For more information, please visit Pokemon.com/TCGL.

Why did you decide to limit the limited beta to Canada only?

Launching the Pokémon TCG Live limited beta in Canada allows the development team to collect gameplay feedback that will help shape a positive experience at scale once the online game is globally released.

Do you have plans to release the limited beta in additional markets before global launch?

Canada is the only market identified for limited beta launch at this time.

If I’m participating in Team Challenge—Season 3, will the tournament continue in the Pokémon TCG Online?

The Team Challenge Qualifiers will continue to be run in the Pokémon TCG Online. If you are a player located in Canada, please do not migrate your Pokémon TCG Online collection to Pokémon TCG Live. Those who choose to do so will no longer be able to log in to the Pokémon TCG Online and will be unable to continue participating in Team Challenge—Season 3.

Will the Team Challenge—Season 3 playoffs and finals be run in Pokémon TCG Live?

We have nothing further to announce at this time. Please stay tuned to our website for more information on the Team Challenge—Season 3 playoffs and finals.

Yecch, I’m still not liking the fact that TPCi is sticking with that scrunched-up mobile “friendly” look for the app. Some of us prefer to play the game on other platforms that can actually SUPPORT the traditional PTCG layout and would like to stick to it rather than being forced to adapt to this schlock.

"PTCGL will not have in-app purchases. "

So code cards going to continue to be a thing.
Looking forward to this. Pokemons online interface felt a bit dated

I think that is only for the Beta.
The screenshots show a shop, battle pass, and in game currencies of various types.

Very sad they don't allow trading. In a game like Pokemon, it was great being able to get rid of cards you wouldn't use. I hope they at least incorporate a dust system to craft specific cards like Yugioh because cracking packs is going to be a pain in the ass to build decks.

this is hilarious. I moved abroad a few years back, but I know my friends will be happy with this.

How in heck is it going to work without in app purchases?

I don't even know the last time I played PTCGO. It was always exhausting be grinding everyday just to get some packs and try to make trades to build a single deck. Honestly, i don't care about all the complaining, I'm really excited about PTCGL! (and, for god sake, PTCGL has a better layout than PTGCO)

There's a dust system.

I cant stand that your opponent's cards are orientated the exact same way as your pokemon cards.
That is a huge step backwards. I hate it when you are given an inferior version to replace what you have been using.

PTCGO is the inferior version, you're on crack. Just because Da CARd fAcEs TowArDs YoU doesn't mean the entire game is miraculously dog water. Trust me, PTCGO has way more issues than a cars facing you now..

Magic: The Gathering Arena do the same, and it's the greatest clients to play the card game. Give it a chance bro, that's not a real problem
