“Pokemon TCG Pocket” Earning 3x More Than “Pokemon GO,” Pulling in $3 Million Per Day!

Pokemon TCG Pocket earned an estimated $12.1 million in its first four days on the market, according to Appmagic. This amounts to $3 million per day.

For comparison, Pokemon GO currently earns around $1 million per day.

Japanese players spent more money on the app than any other audience, at 45% of the $12.1 million revenue. This was followed by the United States at only 25%.

In terms of usage, the U.S. accounted for 29% of all downloads. This was followed by Brazil at 11%, Mexico at 6%, Japan at 4%, France at 4%, the UK at 4%, and Thailand at 4%.

While Japanese players only accounted for 4% of all downloads, they accounted for 45% of its revenue!

It remains to be seen if the app will continue to maintain these numbers.

Not entirely shocked about GO making less; they keep shooting themselves in the foot by taking things away or making them more expensive, and if it's not that, they're busy alienating audiences.

Meanwhile this app has been inoffensive and easy to get into. All said, it's still very new, so we'll see if this maintains itself.
 
Can't say I spent money to pull cards but I am an absolute sheep when it comes to card cosmetics, hoping we get some Gen 2 onwards character themes eventually.
 
It's actually insane that PoGO is essentially making $350m annually for a game. Based on this chart that's around 16th place for a game that's been out for near a decade. With all the data collected too the game is definitely a humongous W for Niantic and TPC/Gamefreak
 
Go is also 7 years old in an era where phone games are not expected to last 8. I don't like Niantic either but it's not much of a "gotcha" that an app that is 3 days old is outgrossing an app that is 7+ years old. Pocket is going to drop off hard when the new game dopamine wears off and people realize it's nothing but a collection simulator.
 
Thank you, Japanese whales, for keeping the game free to play for everybody else! (lol). I think the game's fine; technologically it's in a better state right now than TCG Live has been in for most of its life. Gameplay-wise, it's not as deep as Live, but also not as impenetrable from a new-player standpoint, so I guess it's tied in that aspect. In any case, it's a good thing for consumers when well-developed games make money.
 
Go is not the only (or arguably main) revenue stream for Niantic. They’re collecting huge amounts of data, and also have a SaaS AR gamekit IIRC.
