Tyranitar from Battle Partners!

I rather run Budew, man. If I need a single-prized Item Lock, I would keep Budew. This being Stage 2, makes it not a valid candidate as a Trevenant comeback smth. The ability is basically XY Trevenant

With 190 HP, it’s not too bad as an item-lock option. Combined with Grand Tree as an easily searchable Stadium, supported by Colress’s Tenacity and other cards, it’s an interesting setup to stall and buy some time. It's not a 30hp budew. Definitely not competitive, but I can see it finding a place in rogue decks.

Not KOing a Squawkabilly, a weak 2-prizer for 3 energy, WITHOUT mods is enough for me to qualify that this is a bad attack.

Tyranitar is NOT on the same level as Trevenant, because Trevenant has Ascension Phanthump, this one don't. And Trev has a bunch of stuff that helps its brokenness, this one don't. If I mill cards, I rather run Chi-Yu ex or pop like 1-2 Durants for the time being. Decks like this are NOT strong enough for the meta that we should consider. Lot of cards from those decks are rotating, including stuff like Pidgeot V. Heck, Rhyperior that prevents gusting, having near similar HP a Tyranitar, never seen play. Give the pre evos with Ascension, then I'll consider it.

3 energy?

Tyranitar does have Item lock from T1 in the form of Budew fortunately, though getting this in the Active Spot may be easier said than done. Budew can also be used to help patch up damage too- say it hits a stray Squawkabilly ex.

Counter gain is fortunately back, and with you running a 30 HP item locker, you have a pretty fair shot at being able to use that.

Unfortunately, the lack of OHKO's and how difficult it is to setup a single Tyranitar means that the millisecond your opponent sets up an attacker than can do 190+ and can't be KO'd by some combination of 1 hit of Tyranitar's & Budew's attack, you likely just lose on the spot. Trevenant was a lot easier to get into play, eventually got an HP buff (Trevenant BREAK) that for its format was actually relevant, and had an easier time playing trainers that assisted it's goals. Also, disruptive trainers were generally just better back then.

That said, Tyranitar's ability to more easily threaten attackers with 2-3HKO's and cards like Counter Catcher to target what it wants more easily are definitely huge advantages. The milling effect of its attack can't be overlooked as well. If you are able to get multiple Tyranitar, I think you just win. That said, if you run this card, make the deck as consistent as possible, not focusing on things like keeping a single tyranitar alive, as keeping a steadier flow of them will not only be easier but also combo better with the counter cards. Reversal Energy is also runnable if you want to use things like Gravity Stone to further disrupt setup.

Solution: bring back teammates plz thx, it literally makes so much sense for this set and would help Tyranitar leaps n bounds

Tyranitar's main draw isn't mill but it, item lock, and 1 Prize. Hydreigon ex is probably better for mill as you have the huge advantage of being able to just win the game as an added form of pressure, and KO attackers, forcing them to power up new ones, which mill decks can often struggle to do.

Rhyperior is bad because it does nothing good. Gust prevention is nice on a setup or basic pokemon, rhyperior is neither. The attack effect is extremely mid and doesn't really combo with its ability, and costs more Energy than tyranitar. Tyranitar has effects that combo with eachother and is much easier to attack with.

Not being 10 dmg short from the weakest ex in the game, while doing those stuff is downright upsetting for me. I used Trev as a reference because: 1.) That was the time where Trevenant broke to the ground, to the point ppl make ways for it. 2.) Gothitelle was good with Accelgor, a hit-and-run Pokemon. We don't have one atm. (I am not considering a Stage 2 tho, not even that proven yet.)

It may not perform well in standard but I feel the power for GLC. Card probably breaks dark

This is pretty gud. Trevenant XY historically saw play and Tyranitar also puts your opponent under a time limit by milling them. I don't think it'll be as widespread as Trevenant was back in the day but a passive item floodgate will certainly see play

People really got to stop comparing to everything in the past when we know we get reprints (of sorts) that are nerfed because of how broken/toxic they were in the past.

The card is "fine" at best. Will it see competitive play? Most likely not. But you know people will make rogue decks and have fun with it. I'd argue not being able to one shot is a better option as it leaves more room to try and lock something in the active (With grav stone) and mill more cards.

It uses dark energy too, so it can see play with munkidori, taking advantage of not KOing immediately, then take multi prize turns.
Definitely not a tier 1 card, but considering the mera is slowing down after rotation, it may be worth to consider it for control/mill archetypes
