Give as much info as you can about who your brother uses and what attacks he uses
Let them know if they use lingo you don't get
If you need to ask them to explain how they see the suggestions being used.
If they say oh this will make a great sweeper or something like that ask them to go into detail what do they mean and how would they "sweep?"
It seems to me competitive VG players have their own language that makes it difficult for the rest of us to understand what they are talking about.

I understand the mechanics of breeding, just not who works together and how to make a good team and what moves they should have.

I won't be able to help you much...it doesn't matter what I try I always loose to my son.
I have another friend here that's pretty good at that sort of thing...
