  • SuperMatt142, no, I don't even play the games anymore. I have never RNG'd once in my life. However, I'm speaking from what I've heard from other players and using common sense that can be applied to any competitive game.
Hopefully no one ever breaks the random damage variable. I'd quit tournies if that were the case.
It has been "broken", i.e. found out, but it isn't something that can be exploited.

Basically what happens is that the attack's final damage ends up being multiplied by a number between 0.85 and 1.00, increasing in 0.01 increments. (The weirdest thing is that not each number has an equal possibility of being selected.) I remember reading it before, but I forgot where.

It's not something to worry about though, as it's not something that can be manipulated.
Hmm, I can't remember from that. Did you battle a guy whose team was Togekiss, Zapdos, Garchomp, Weavile, Amoonguss, and Rotom-W? That was me if you did.SuperMatt142,
SuperMatt142, fun, fund, either works by me :p

And you're welcome! You too are a pleasure to talk to and it's comforting for me to know that I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
SuperMatt142, I'm aware - and that's why I don't modify the game I'm actually using to participate. In any case, the hack checker only checks the contents of the Battle Box.

I guess having one or two perfect Pokemon is fine, but even so it's still a gigantic gray area. I tend to be consistent in my view and think RNG shouldn't be used regardless, outside device or not, because all it comes down to is manipulation to get things the way you want them to be. That shouldn't be so; the games are built with that in mind.

I've had some very interesting exploits in the past of amazingly IV'd Pokemon, and that's just from the breeding alone. You don't need RNG to get amazing Pokemon - I certainly don't.
SuperMatt142, I actually use cloning myself to give away event Pokemon to those who weren't fortunate enough to get the event when it came around. (I only do it for 4th gen, however; I only have codes for Diamond, and I'm a bit skeptical how my Black would react to an AR directly.) But yeah, I don't think cloning is all that bad, since you're just making a carbon copy of something that actually exists; you aren't creating anything new or exploiting something stat-wise.

RNG is a big gray area, yes, and really it just ultimately comes down to a person's decision. You CAN do it, but SHOULD you? In some cases it really isn't even all that necessary to do that to win, and it might not even give you that much of a leg-up. I got a Timid Volcarona with 31/27/29/31/31/30 on my third egg with no manipulation involved; realistically, that there is as good as perfect. (I did get lucky though, I freely admit that.)

Also, AR is not technically illegal - it's just frowned upon, but it does void warranty. (However, the warranty isn't used all that often anyway.)
SuperMatt142, just because I think different than everyone else, is that why? Or is it because of my view of 'just because you can do something doesn't mean you should'?

I did use AR for a few things back in Gen 4, but only such things as to speed up EV training or clone some Pokemon. (Now cloning is all I use it for.) I'm aware that my views might seem hypocritical to some, but I have my views and I stick by them.

By the way, LOVE your signature.
