Steven’s Metagross ex and Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex Decks Revealed!

Whimsicott from TEF sinergizes well with Metagross's ability and tank potential

Superior Energy retrieval >
With e recycler you have to search all those energies from your deck, however sup. e. retrieval puts them back into your hand and bellibolt can attach them directly. although its not bad as a 1-2 of
Metagross is not Grass and retrieval gives you energy back to hand so you can’t use abilities like Metagross, some decks will need energy recycles and it’s a great card

Both of these decks having their own built in acceleration is nice and all, but unless we saw more cards for these themes I'd trust Metagross over Grimmsnarl/Morpeko.

Yes, Morpeko can reach KOs with 1 Grimmsnarl buff, but you got to commit 1 whole Grimmsnarl evolve to the Morpeko every time you want to do that, which is taxing with how tiny Morpeko is. It isn't like Gardevoir where you'll often keep Gardy in play for several turns and get value from it every turn. Grimmsnarl's attack for itself is still underwhelming, and it doesn't have a niche like Metagross has in tanking damage. Having Spikemuth for consistency is a great feat, and I can only hope that Marnie will have a wider toolbox down the road that Grimmsnarl can better take advantage of.

Metagross is straightforward, and likely will get compared as a Steel Tank against Archaludon ex. Metagross tanks bigger hits, sometimes more hits, and is less conditional on energy for setup; whereas Archa hits better damage benchmarks and is a stage 1 rather than a stage 2. The different basics also have their advantages. I don't think this would be as much of a competition if Metagross did any more damage in its attack, as even 210 changes what it can OHKO for ex's. Each of those is going to be more effective in different matchups, and Archa does lose some consistency to rotation. Worth discussing both metal decks down the road.

Energy Recycler coming back into the game is great, even if we do lose the strategy that took the most advantage of it to rotation.
Imagine if they give Marnie a tool that gives Marnie's basic Pokémon 150 HP at the cost of giving up an extra prize card. Does that make it better or is it better to just hit for good damage and only give up the 1 prize card?

bro ur not using whimsicott for the attack lmaoooo its just for the ability which works great to heal metagross up to full hp, with the downside of discarding all energies attached which metagross can easily get around with its own ability (do i really have to explain this...)

and the superior energy retrieval thing, i was responding to a comment that said that energy recycler would benefit the iono's deck, not ur comment, i am not saying its not good

Whimiscott only heals your Active Grass Pokemon. That's what the other person is saying.

Making yourself look dumb while you're trying to make someone else look dumb is hilarious. Whimsicott only heals Grass type Pokémon so unless you have some magical way of making Metagross Grass type then this doesn't work

I thought about him but it feels inconsistent over all
Yeah, eats up 2-4 card slots in the deck and 1 bench spot minimum. It also becomes a 2 prize liability on the board after you use it, unless you scoop it up with Turo (because I think you will not run Scoop Up Cyclone as ace spec here). But using turo means it eats up your supporter for turn.

I like how English gets nothing but wave after wave of battle decks nobody asked for yet china gets nothing but banger after banger of region specific card. The Chinese don’t care about their own language cards, they want English and Japanese, so why TPCi continues to waste effort on a niche ass market that will go nowhere is beyond me.

That Metagross is actually solid, but I can only really see it be used as a partner for Archaludon. No synergy with Mamoswine ex, and it would be kinda redundant in Gardevoir. Maybe in the future when a more aggressive Metal type comes out it could see more use.
