Last night, while soft resetting for shiny Reshiram, I got it after 777 soft resets!!! The funny thing though, was that last night, the movie I was watching was coming to an end when I was around 760 sr's. So I said that I'd finish the day after 777 sr's, and low and behold, the last soft reset...

Assuming you chained in XY... At a chain of three, the odds are 1/3641. While it's very rare, the chances are still less than the usual 1/4096. Assuming you don't have the shiny charm. Congrats on your catch!
