Standard Giratina EX Accelaration Deck/ Water

I don't like Rat with this deck unless you plan to go in a different direction and make it about disruption. Rat takes up quite a bit of valuable space. your deck might be a little heavy on EX with few support for a disruption pokemon like carbink or jolteon EX.

Discussion Brilliant Arrow, Despair Ray Combo

I've played a similar deck. Keeping in mind that you said you are on a budget.... (ie Shaymin EX). Max Elixir is the best "fix". they are not too expensive, and most decks need a few. You seem to be missing Gardevoir EX from your deck. I run only x2 Xerneas. Four is excessive and its only...

    Ruling Is This Action Legal?

I agree. you need to play each card independently and finish each cards action BEFORE proceeding. so... if you play Prof. letter. go get the energy. then place all cards down and in their proper location. deck back in place. prof. letter in discard. energy in hand. then play your ultraball...

Discussion Which Booster Box Would You Open?

I agree with Jackson Ford. with any booster box.... you may wind up with a dozen or so "good" cards... but the rest are mostly commons. which is fine if thats your objective. depending on the set, you usually get a few EXs and sought after trainers if you wind up playing more. the pre...

    Tyranitar-Gengar Deck.

Asmer. well said. many times. especially for newer players.... I tell them don't worry as much about winning or losing (at first) you need to play your deck many many times to learn how it plays/runs. which each game, see what your opponent is doing. are they playing more supporters per...

    Tyranitar-Gengar Deck.

pick you primary pokemon. which 5 or 6 or your most important. then use x3 of each. put away the other pokemon for now. ADD x3 Sycamore. make it x3 Shauna and x3 N. x3 Ultraball. dump PCL and Tierno. increase max elixir. lower your energy count to approx. 10. then lets see what your deck...

Can Promos and Cards from Theme Decks Be Used in Tournaments?

starter decks are typically a good way to start learning the game. but they typically will not be competitive in tournaments. check which sets the starter decks are based upon, they may or may not be legal for the current season. reminder. world championship decks are not legal for tournaments...

No Idea How To Play or What to Buy

good luck with your son. I started my son around 7. and I've taught other kids how to "play". it really helps when he can do the math and multiplication. x10 x20 x30s. i recommend you play the same decks a LOT to get the mechanics and sequence down. and when I say a lot, i mean 50+ games...

How Long Does Regionals Day 2 Last?

https://www.pokemon.com/us/play-pokemon/pokemon-events/16-12-000120/ I pretty much agree with the other response. I have gone to the last couple San Jose Regionals. (assuming you are playing in Masters). Day 1 can go deep into the evening depending on how good they are at starting on Time...

    Best Decks for Beginners?

my recommendation is that they learn to walk before they run. start off players with a relative straight forward ex deck (like maybe Mega Mewtwo). where they just attach energy. They don't have to worry about mechanics such as battle compressor (initially, its not intuitive to discard cards)...

Standard Need Help with a M Tyranitar EX Deck

I tried a similar deck.... but had trouble getting it to run consistently. Try a Skyla, so you can get the spirit link. I recommend a 3-3 line of tyranitar. 2 is a bit light. I've tried x2 Heavy ball for digging out the tyranitars.

Which Set Should I Invest In?

although you may get "lucky" and pull a card you want/need like Shaymin EX. chances are just as good that you will wind up with other EX cards you don't want. if you are on a limited budget... I would suggest you get the staples of trainers/supporters. Sycamore, VS Seeker, Max Elixir, etc...

Sylveon EX deck. Dressing for the occasion.

the only "flaw" in the deck/strategy is that if your opponent can OHKO your pokemon. then it really doesn't matter how much you heal. inversely, Sylveon doesn't pack enough of a punch to OHKO an EX or Mega. we ran a fairy deck and tried to tech in a Sylveon... but found it was just better to go...

Returning Player - Should I Play Yveltal EX?

you should also think about what your opponent might play to disrupt you and how you might counter. what if they play carbink (with safeguard against EX). what if they play vileplume (or Seismitoad) to shut down your ability to run trainers. its fine if you like running a speed deck. or counter...

    What is 'Skill' in PTCG?

maybe look at it from a tournament perspective also. there might be dozens of players playing a certain deck. but there's a reason why experienced and high ranked players (more often than not) can play their way into the top cut. its skill. especially in a best 2 out of 3 format. luck can...

Returning Player - Should I Play Yveltal EX?

The tricky part is trying to squeeze a deck into your budget. you can always try to proxy some of the cards you like/want and see how they work before you spend the $$. good or bad, if you are trying to build a speed deck... its very hard to compete w/o items like Max Elixir or VS seeker...

    How do Regionals Work?

as usual, you should check the details specific to your tournament / regional as each one will not be exactly the same. but typically. you will play all day saturday. the numbers of rounds will be dependent on the total number of players. each round is best 2 out 3. Top cut/ top 8 usually...

Alt. Format First-Timer: Casual Mewtwo EX/Wobbuffet/Bats

your deck is awfully close to being a standard deck. I probably recommend that you try to tweak it just that little bit extra more. as it will suit you in the long run... and you should be able to play more opponents who are familiar with your cards. and you will likely be able to play in many...

How to Affordably Build a Collection or Deck?

I recommend that you start playing and getting back in the swing of the game first. There are many different types of decks. and until you start playing a little, its hard to tell what might suit you and your style. chances are... in the beginning, you can't assemble a deck like you want (ie...

Expanded The Big Bad Dark Deck (Yveltal EX / Darkrai EX)

Consider adding a head ringer or 2. It would force your opponent to use an additional energy and would slow down your opponent a bit. It would also give Evil Ball an additional 20 damage.
