For me promo cards especially the really rare ones (ex. Japanese only, Top 3 in Worlds, etc.) The reason is because I like collecting.

Great and sad article since I only have 2 decks (Keldeo/Blastoise and Donphan) and lots of the main cards will be rotated. Good thing I mainly play for fun at leagues and rarely participate in tournaments.

I bought Gold and Silver at the same time and caught a shiny on both game (excluding Gyarados) around the same time so I'm not sure which one I captured first. My 2 first shinies are Ponyta and Hoothoot. Later I used the cloning method to clone more so I could have the shiny evolution line.

For me like $50 a year. Car gas to go to the Pokémon Leagues 2 or 3 times a week do not count. Mostly on figures, single cards and a few other merch.
