New generations always start with a new region, new Pokemon, new storyline etc i.e RB, GS, RS, DP & BW. Remakes wouldn't start the next generation because they would be classed under the current fifth Generation.

Well, even if Gen VI gets revealed first (Jan 8th) that doesn't rule out Remakes, it could easily fall into Gen VI just at a later date.

Game Freak don't do spin-offs so why they would announce one with all this publicity is beyond me, it's clearly the next major games in the franchise. I'm hoping for R/S remakes but part of me thinks it's something else.

Remakes have been anticipated for much longer, Gen VI has only really been popping up since B2W2 was over and done with so I think it's the majority who will be happier with remakes rather than a new Generation.

This announcement could easily be RS Remakes, Gen VI or something else but until then we can only speculate.

My initial reaction was RS Remakes omg! but then I thought it could just as easily be Gen VI, either way it will be interesting to see.
