Most apps do, but GO doesn't notify you of Pokemon when it's just on in the background, you miss Pokestops, can't take on Gyms, and how much you walk isn't accounted for so eggs won't hatch. It's basically useless if it isn't open. As for the latter, I hope the GO Plus allows us to walk without...
