(1) 'HeartGold & SoulSilver' Press Release and Set Logo [12/3]

1st post! :D Well at least we know they ARE having the LEGEND cards in this set, but why did it say that there were half a dozen (6) pokemon Prime when there should be at least 8?

Looks like they're splitting up the HG/SS set as expected to accommodate for the Japanese Leafeon vs. Metagross Decks and the battle starter decks.

Nothing else too surprising here, I guess. At least it's nice to know its date of release.

Cut something like Blissey prime please? If Donphan misses this release I'm going to be pissed. -_-

Or Crobat Prime. :O We know the three Starters are in this set for sure as well as the two Legend cards.

The theme deck names are alright. The logo and Ho-oh look freaking sweet. I can't wait for this set.

dmaster out.

Seems like the "Trainer" card type isn't going to be changed to "Goods" like in Japan it seems. I'm a little concerned that the Pokemon Prime might make decks as expensive as ex's were back in the day (though of course back then I haven't gotten into the game yet until Diamond/Pearl: Majestic Dawn).

The release date was old news so nothing new there...

Can't wait. Not a amazing set, but some good cards.
I personally like how they are releasing several cards that could win in a set, instead of only 1.
Crobat Prime/ Weezing GE will be freaking sweet.

Lv X's make the decks expensive. A good example of an expensive deck is AMU.

There is definately going to be a cut in the set. The HGSS translations page said that the Lugia and Ho-Oh were half sets, so I'm assuming both sets contain the same amount of cards. Unless I made a miscount, the Ho-Oh set had 71 cards total, and multiply that by two then you have 142 cards. I understand that the logo said at least 120 cards, but it seems to be more accurate saying at least 140 cards. Then, add the special booster set and you have 172 cards. My guess is that the Spring Set will be the battle starter set, and about 50 cards that were supposed to be from the HGSS set will be moved the the starter set.

EDIT: Why did I count of the page told us how many cards there were in each half set? It's actually 70 cards per half set, so that total (plus the special booster pack) is 170 cards.

Kawayoo?

Illustrating english art for my TCG?

See. In Japan HeartGold Collection was one SET, as was SoulSilver Collection. They weren't and aren't considered half-sets or sub-sets or anything like that. There were 70 (+1 secret) cards in each set. 142 cards + Red Gyarados Promo (special booster pack/random deck set simply has cards from the set + that promo) = 143.

What they COULD do is just split the battle starter crap and make like the Leafeon deck and 2 of the battle starter decks for this st and Metagross and the 2 others for the other set. I mean Supreme victors had 147 cards, so its all right to hit like early 150's. However, I hope to GOD they do not, cause then it will be WAY harder to pull crap you want.

I'm going to bet Crobat and Blissey were cut.

Simply because of the release Japanese promo's didn't include a Zubat or Happiny/Chansey. They just included the three starters, Mareep, Teddiursa, and Phanpy

Maybe I'm missing something, but why does this thought warrant a sad face?

No I'm just shocked! They usually get Kouki Saito in to do art and his stuff is fab, but then they have the horrible american CGI artist jumping inbetween other sets (Arceus set anyone) and that's what I was expecting again XD

Yeah, Kawayoo is excellent, so I was caught off guard seeing such great art as well! I'd love that Ho-Oh on a playmat, make it happen TPCi!

Also, do we actually know that the Arceus and other packaging CGI was an American artist? Are they credited anywhere? I always thought the TCG pack art, good or bad, came from Japan.

That might be true...*which make me sad*

can't wait for those Legend cards

Wow that is too bad they are cutting 44 cards from this set which means with the set following that set will have a smaller ratio too because the fact that those ones will be in the set. Saying that is the case leaves less room to compile new Pokemon in the next set.:)

As far as I'm aware it's an in-house artist, because that kind of CGI hasn't appeared in any of the JP TCG pack arts. Yeah they've had 3D CGI stuff before but it's been Shizrow and such who've done it. The 3D Model done by Wataru was used for a CM played in Pokecen over there but was completely accurate unlike the US version XD So I'm thinking that it's in-house USA. Also thinking of that god-awful Gallade from one of the decks, where his chest spike looked like his mouth and the overly huge eye. Some of it's atrocious.

The localization team has many, many faults, but surely they are not stupid enough to put us TWO FULL SETS behind Japan....

right?

Slops to Go-Pokemon.com for not posting the press release on their site yet, but it is good to have it official.

Splitting up the set is a good move. The sets will not quite as big, and we have better chances to pull rarer cards.

Toast to the HeartGold & SoulSilver series!
