(1) Nintendo Details Wii U Features [6/3]

The goal of the system is to unite people.
If I had a dollar for every time I heard Nintendo say that...

In addition to using it to play your games, you can use it as a universal remote for your television.
I can imagine some family just going "Freaking remotes, how do they work?" after getting one of these.

You can continue playing your Wii U games on the game pad when the TV is being used for something else.
Wait, how? Oh right, there's some sort of screen on the game pad, right? (Sorry, I forgot most of what was said about the Wii U, mostly because I didn't care.)

So okay we know a little more about it, but nothing that comes out as especially surprising. Next, please.

Where is this being shown/where was it posted about?

They had it on their website, e3 Nintendo site, and Nintendo e3 Facebook page (and probably more places as it was on Ustream).

dmaster out.

Watched the whole thing, I'm actually quite sold on this system. Having never picked up the Wii (shame on me, I know), I'm really looking in to buying one of these, although it depends on the price point.

The Pro controller is connected with Bluetooth.

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING.

brb pre-ordering the system at Gamestop

Omg the Wii U Pro Controller. <3

If all games support Pro, I'm sold.

Good luck pre-ordering it without even knowing the price point :p

Don't care. I'm getting it for the sake of having that controller. And for Legend of Zelda HD. Because Legend of Zelda.

Everything is looking great so far. Problem is that I have no time anymore and the chances of this being cheap are slim.

I must say that the Wii U is a huge improvement from the Wii, which was a bit of a disappointment. I love the easy way to communication between gamers and the universal remote, that's going to be quite fun. Let's see how Nintendo uses the Wii U's potential in the games being shown on Tuesday.

I have to disagree. The Wii-U sounds like a console version of the DSi, an updated system with some nice features but not an actual upgrade from its predecessor. The Wii was good because it hit on something new at the the time it was released (motion-sensative technology). By the sound of it, the Wii-U doesn't really bring anything new, just combines console and handheld tech that's been out for awhile. Right now, it doesn't sound like something that would be worth buying as soon as it comes out to me.

I've never tried to contest an opinion before, so:

By that logic, many past generation leaps in technology were simply transitioning to the DSi. What did the SNES have over the NES? More powerful graphics and sound, and L/R buttons. GameCube over N64? More powerful graphics and sound, analog L/R buttons. GBA over GB/GB Color? More powerful graphics and sound, L/R buttons.

Nintendo works on a tick-tock cycle; ticks are what you might consider minor-ish things, tocks are major-ish things.

  • NES to SNES: A tick
  • SNES to N64: 3D graphics, a tock
  • N64 to GameCube: A tick
  • GameCube to Wii: Motion controls, a tock
  • Wii to Wii U: Meld of everything, a tick

So this a tick cycle. In the traditional sense of generations, this is most definitely an upgrade; more powerful graphics, new control possibilities, new functionality. In your sense, it's not; no huge groundbreaking thing like 3D or motion controls.

...I don't really have a point, I just wanted to say that because I dislike Nintendo-related negativity.

It's funny because you're like the 1000th person to bring this up. I own an Xbox. The controllers look nothing alike.

hurhur, they have 2 analog sticks. so does every other current gen console.
I apologize for noticing something that many other people have noticed. That must mean my comment is completely meaningless and generates no discussion value whatsoever.
I also apologize for thinking that the two controllers have a similar shape and nearly identical shoulder buttons and triggers, locations and shape.
And did I say anything about the two analog sticks? Of course I didn't. Stop being silly.

I JUST TOOK A ****

Ahem. My Body is ready!

Complexity's that's a load of bull with the Wii U controller pro Who said they can't release easy cod clones?

Noted, but my reasoning is that there still should have been something more distinctive like the 3DS actually had 3D graphics that could be seen without the need for special glasses. The Wii-U just seems like a slap in the face since there isn't anything really special about it in comparison to the Wii yet. But this is just my first impression of the Wii-U.
