Going in, I wanted to improve on my luck Emerging Powers pull wise. I had competed in the Prerelease at Worlds and pulled really nothing. I was legitimately hoping for a lot better to come out of another one. Key word here is hoping lol.

Blah blah blah packs. Pulled: Virizion, a Max Potion, and a regular Tornadus. Similarly to the past Prerelease, the code cards were the best things I pulled.

That said, I had a wicked deck built. I got two solid lines of attackers: a 3-4 Ferrothorn line (2/2 split of the Ferrothorn) as well as a 2-2 Swanna line with a Tornadus and an Audino (bcif for a Prerelease). And I had all three Monkeys for Collect starters as well. In the end, the deck looked something like this.

3-4 Ferrothorn
2-2 Swanna
1-1 Simisear
1 Pansage
1 Panpour
1 Tornadus
1 Audino
1 Max Potion
1 Bianca
11 Metal Energy
8 Water Energy
2 Fire Energy

Solid on paper. I played a couple test games against Rodimus (who went with two musketeers, Cobalion and Virizion, for high damage and Fighting Pokemon to tank hits and deal some quick damage on the offensive end) and the deck wasn't performing as well as I would have hoped. As soon as I heard that there would be an extra pack for going undefeated, I knew that this was more serious than in the past. I really wanted to maximize my pulls and an extra pack could help out with that considering I pulled nothing but bad Beartic, bad Gothitelle and no Catcher. :F Didn't do any fixes to my deck, just went in hoping I would get better luck.

Round 1: vs. Mirror

lol They have Ferrothorn combo going too which is hilarious. I setup with Swanna or Ferrothorn, can't remember and roll through thanks to Ferrothorn's resistance to Gothita/Gothorita. The second match we played was for fun and I rolled with Audino ftw.

Round 2: vs. Fighting

All I saw was a Drillbur. I get T3/T4 Swanna with two Energy after Collecting.

Round 3: vs. Gothorita+Basics

Didn't see much of a Pokemon presence on the opposing side. Roll with Gyro Ball and retreating to KO everything after getting set up.

So I get three packs, and I get a Cheren in all three packs. :F No Catcher. One good Beartic. Pitiful.

Props:

Made good trades
Gyro Ball Ferrothorn
Audino
Extra pack for going undefeated
Code cards
Rodimus
Redakai

Slops:

Bad Prerelease pulls

Nice job, dmaster! Going undefeated is a pretty amazing feat. Too bad you had bad pulls but at least you had great games, am I right?

Yeah, the games were fun. I think I went first every game but the fast game with Swanna vs. Drillbur, so I guess that just reinforces the format. :p Getting to evolve first is really good if you get some decent lines of Pokemon.

I went undefeated at my pre release too! But I didn't get an extra pack for that.. I never knew there were prizes at PR's, and this is the 5th one I've been too. Maybe that's just not in my area. I made a Thunderous and Braviary deck which was awesome. :)

This was the first time we had that incentive in a long time. It just depends on how many supplies are there. Usually, it doesn't work out that way lol.

We also had a ton of raffle prizes which was really nice.

I have to ask... What are Rodimus and Redakai? Redakai has been bothering me for a while... and I found another word here that I don't know (Rodimus). ;D GJ winning a prerelease (giggle snort).

Rodimus is just a nickname for my friend Rod who I play against.

Redakai is a new TCG both of us have been playing and it's quite a fun game. We played it at Worlds and I played more games of it than Pokemon, fun fact.

Well you're going to have to teach me Redakai at So-Cal regionals (which are in November ^_^). I've been eyeing it for a while at league, and I've wondered what it was for a while.

It is so easy to play, simple to learn, and surprisingly balanced. Theme decs have a chance to win and games are so fast and fresher than Pokemon. It's a nice complement to the fairly stale Pokemon meta. A second set of it is coming out this Fall and real Tournaments will be happening next year iirc.

Is it cheap to get into? Who makes it and who runs the tournaments? Sounds like something I'd want to get into... ;D

Fairly cheap to get into. Packs are a tad more expensive than Pokemon, but the cards are higher quality. I'm not sure how Tournaments are but I think Store owners can apply and get the stuff and then anybody can run them (that's how League is I guess). All I know is ex-Magic people created it, don't know specifics.

Redakai is created by SpinMasters (who created Bakugan). The packs are expensive, but the cards are 3-d enhanced. The effect is layered so when you place a clear card with an attack/damage over another card, the effect seems like its hitting the covered card.

Real simple game, and worth trying. But not a lot of followers yet. I had only one person interested in the game since I demo'd it at the local store. (which means that I have my own personal collection to trade off)

and not to just steal the thread, dmaster, but going undefeated in any format is pretty good...

While I appreciate your interest in the topic, we do have thread revival rules on here. Sorry! (Prereleases still never matter lol. You have to get lucky with your pulls and your flips during the match, but I generally make the best deck I can out of the cards I get every time.)
