I've never made a pre-release report or any kind of event report to begin with, so I thought this would be a good start! Anyway, Me and few friends head down to the Madness Comics shop in Plano for the Dragons Exalted pre-release. We wanted to get there early so we got there at around 9 am, to our demise the community center (where the event will occur) hadn't been opened yet. So we sat in the truck for a bit and talked about what we were going to do, and we ended up going to a gas station and stood inside for an hour talking about what we wanted to pull, decks we wanted to make etc. We all hadn't had any breakfast, so we bought anything we could. It came time for the event to start, so we headed back (I ate 4 gas station tacos and a coke) and got ready.
at the time i was really stoned soz
We get to the center to see there are already some people lined up, ready to get their packs. We waited for a few in line to get our packs, only to be told we had to register and sit down and wait for our packs. I wasn't sure how people would take it if our friends sat down to play yu-gi-oh, but we did it anyway and some people actually came up to us asking for trades and I was able to make some cash.
FINALLY, after waiting almost 30 minutes after signups, the judges began to set out the table number signs. Everything was done, until another judge walks in with a stack of signs. I had to wait AGAIN to get my packs. The anxiety was killing me. I sat diagonally from my friend Dez who knew the judges pretty well, and as were the last table to get packs he asks the judge, "Man, are you racist or something?" jokingly, of course. The judge laughed and started giving us our packs but suddenly stopped and told Dez "You know what? Just for that, I'm giving you your packs last." So we went to the end of the table (it was only 1 table) and gave the packs from that side. The guy next to me got the packs that I was supposed to get while I got the packs he was supposed to get. I was having a good time, and then I started to open my packs. ALL. DUDS. I got nothing but a bunch of random cards. I looked at the guy next to me to see a nice Mew EX, and my friend in front of my with Rayquaza EX and Terrakion EX. I sat there for a bit with disappointment, but I shrugged it off and began to build my deck. The good thing about my packs were that I got a good amount of 1-1 lines and I made a pretty unique (in my opinion) deck.
Pokemon - 16:
1 Stunfisk
1 Golett
1 Golurk
1 Durant
1 Almomola
1 Bidoof
1 Bibarel
2 Roselia
2 Roderade
1 Tympole
1 Palpitoad
1 Cubone
1 Marowak
Trainer - 1:
Rescue Scarf
Energy - 23
6 {G}
7 {P}
5 {W}
5 {F}
Card choices were pretty simple, most of my Stage 1's require 1 specific energy and 2 DCL so I tried to base it around the cards that I thought would do the most damage.
Round 1 (descriptions won't be too long)
I start with a lone Cubone, and he starts with a gible.I draw into a Roselia, and I begin to setup for a Roserade while he has trouble getting to a stage 1. By the time he gets the evolution, I have a fully loaded roserade and I'm able to Crosswise Whip to victory. (they pass out candy before every match, and whoever wins the match gets the candy, yum!)
1-0
Round 2
We sit close to the judges table, and I notice my opponent calls a judge mom. I get a bit nervous thinking (this guy must know a lot about the game since he's the son of a judge, gulp etc). We begin our game, I start with Stunfisk while he starts Trubbish. The reason I used trubbish was because of his HP. I could stall with him and load up my bench for an all out attack, and Stunfisk completed his job. I had Alomomola ready to attack after trying to take out Stunfisk for 3 turns straight. He knocks out Stunfisk and Alomomola comes in a double slaps everything into oblivion. (more candy!)
2-0
Round 3
I find my table and see my opponent is already there. We sit down and begin to shuffle and draw our cards, but before we got to play, there was a raffle going on for everyone that was still playing. Prizes were Katy Perry sunglasses, coin purses, buttons, posters and 6 packs of different BW boosters. There were some pokemon buttons too, but I couldn't tell right away which ones they were. One of the guys at our table (Taylor, I think his name was.) says "I always get called towards the end and end up with a coin purse." I said he was lying and asked him to bet his pre-release deck, but he said the only reason he declined is because he had 2 EX's in there. So as the raffle is about to end, the judge announces there are only 2 coin purses left and call the last 2 names. We hear a cheer from the other side of the room coming from one of the winners, and I turn around to see Taylor walking to get his prize. On the way back, he looks at me and smirks. I get a bit embarrassed and my friend next to me whispers, "You would've lost your deck dude." Everyone at the table laughs and begins their final round.
We both start with 1 basic. I have Cubone to his Mareep. To my dismay, I drew Cubone and 6 energies. I sign and flash him my hand, and he laughs and flashes me his. 6 energies, haha. We both have to wait a few turns, constantly drawing into energies until I hit Golett. I put him down on my bench and begin to attach energy. He drops a Wurmple on his bench and I get a bit nervous because the guy behind us was raging at losing an EX to Wurmple. I finally draw into Golurk, and I have 4 energy on it. I KO 2 pokemon, and in comes the dreaded Wurmple. He gets me for 2 turns until he flips a tails. I KO his last pokemon and he extends his arm and congratulates me on the win. (it actually felt pretty good considering in YGO, if you extend out your hand your opp looks and you weird and walks off after a loss. the community is really nice.) I tell him good game, get my candy and go report my match.
3-0
I return my energies and get my 2 extra packs plus a Next Destinies pack for bringing a friend. And I pull some more duds. What a surprise! All in all, it was a really fun day and got everything I needed for my Gartaria deck (except garchomp, did I mention the guy next to me got a reverse good chomp? /rage)
Props:
- Almomola for being awesome (and really lucky with flips)
- Roserade for destroying my R2 opponent
- Golurk for overcoming the mighty Wurmple
Slops:
- pulling duds
- RACIST JUDGE jk
- my friend losing his wallet during the event (I ended up finding it in line when I was reporting)
Thanks for reading!
