Just when I thought that I had a good idea how to get into this game properly. Just when I thought I had a good idea about the basics of deck building for the current format......BAM!!! Changes arrive and boy do they arrive!!! So I am a new player and I and am just really confused about all of the new changes that are going to take place. I get the new rules, I get that we may get a mid-season rotation to HGSS-On. And while I can't really complain too much about it, I can say that I am rather confused at all of this to say the least. Now I have recently acquired the set of staples to build decks within the MD-On format to and I can honestly say I was not prepared for the winds of changes that are about to take place. I guess you can say that I sort of figured things out within this format (MD-ON) and what the sole purpose of things in terms of playability but now with this new format coming closer it looks like I'm back to the drawing board again. What should I do? Should I wait it out and see what happens? Or should I just run around like a chocobo with his head cut off at a Panic! at The Disco concert? All I really want is make a fun league deck for the time being and then move on to bigger things. So what are some stuff that is considered "fun" and not too competitive within the upcoming HGSS-On format? Any suggestions and advice would be much appreciated! Thanks again Pokebeach!

I suppose Raichu Prime/Pachirisu CoL could be some fun to play in the next format. I would wait it out to see what happens too, otherwise you'll just be confusing yourself between MD-on and HGSS-on :)

Yeah it seems like the best thing to do is wait. What I may do is just continue to get staple cards for the time being. There is a nice thread on the gym about HG-SS-On staples that I may look into getting, it would make the deckbuildong process much easier for me.

Yeahh, learn the staples, and I would buy a theme deck or two which contains them. It's the easiest way to get them.

I wish DCE came in theme decks :(

if they did, then it would be crazy out there in leagues.

also, I'm not too sure why you're so confused about the rotation coming up because it happens annually, and there's talk about it everywhere...I learned about the rotation coming and the discussion between the possibilities of RR-on or HGSS-on (speaking of the past) before I knew what the good decks/staples were, but this is beside the point

easy deck to roll with without worrying about competitive winning would be almost any stage 2 deck. that's how I started and I won more than half my games at leagues without knowing about the staples and the metagame. after that, you have to start worrying about speed and consistency which means competitiveness and high spending cost.

like the other guy said, buying a couple of theme decks (probably a B/W one and a HGSS [of any expansion] that is of the same pokemon type [water, fire, grass, etc.]) because then you have a good amount of pokemon to choose from without being spread thing with varied energies.

Never ever ever buy a theme deck. Most of the time, it is just a waste of money. The cards you get in them are almost never used in a good deck. If you want to build a fun league deck, PM me and I'll give you some ideas. The best way to ever build a deck is to buy singles online or from people at league, or trade for the cards you need.

That deck is used a lot at my league, but now it is nerfed, because it lost SF Magnezone #6, Conductive Quarry, and most importantly, Rayquaza LA, which is probably the most important card.

-_- what? no. lets just look at a random theme deck. lets take the HS Growth Clash. it contains 2 communication and 1 PONT and a whole bunch of energies...its a good start on staples and its a start into the game. now which one

you could get the Ember Spark one that has 2 communication (going to be a big staple in the next format with no Bebe) and 2 PONT (professor oaks new threory. its a great hand refresh/draw power) dont listen to james...

Theme decks can help you get into the game and teach you. also i THINK that you get an extra pack in the theme decks. you may not be a ble to get the theme decks i mentioned but the green tornado (serperior) theme deck will get you 2 communication and 2 juniper which will also become a future staple for draw power and for some decks discard power.

Get the undaunted theme deck with Umbreon

Best theme deck IMO =/ beef it up abit and it will be ok at a league, especially if you already have some T/S/S staples to add to it :)

Yeah I have two of these. I was thinking of pairing him up with Scizor Prime but with the new format possibly changing and cards being rotated out of it, I don't think it can be as good as it once was. Powers are being replaced with abilities and umbreon doesn't wall those.

umbreon will still wall everything even though everything is changed to abilities so dont worry. ALSO a scizor prime umbreon prime lock deck will be quite awesome.

Also at league its always unlimited format. If your playing competitive you have to stay within the rotation. I'm running Empoleon X Disruption and Snorlax right now. Both which wont be in the format next season. But I can still play them at league. I'm just doing this to bide my time until I get a good HGSS on deck.

You don't need to worry about rotation until you start playing competitive is all I'm saying.

Wow I did not know that. If so, a umbreon wall deck seems to be the best option for me right now. I'm going to shop for more staples so when the new format and more cards roll around that I want (Beartic and Gothitelle) I can build something more competitive with no problem

Just out of curiosity, what would a Scizor/Umbreon deck look like in a HG-SS on format?

^actually i just learned...that abilities and poke power/body are 2 different things so you are correct...umbreon is now useless. BUT you could still run a scizor/steelix deck as i think mentioned earlier.

Lol and I thought I had a good foundation hahaha. Hmm maybe I'll try that. I have my eye on lock and disruption decks though.

^it may be expensive...but a good disruption deck is LostGar...AND I DO know about that one. but gengar is around...40 dollars each...

You're right Gengar is like 25-40 bucks a card. Mew prime is around the same price. I guess if I should save a disruption deck for when I'm ready to build a competitive deck.

well if you get some cards you can start trading. um another disruptin deck i can think of is....um idk actually there arnt to many. ACTUALLY yanmega is a good disruptive fast deck. and i also know what is in that. ALSO i know womeone running it and i can get there list for you to go by. its pretty good.
