hey guys, i just started playing pokemon with my friends and we heard about regionals from a local league.

is regionals hard to play in?
also, what deck should i play.
i have donphan deck, a charizard deck, and also a raichu prime pachirisu deck.

thanks in advance! ^_^

Well, of course Regionals is hard :p I'd say Charizard. Also, having decks like that while being a new player is impressive. Whoever taught you the game really knew what he was doing. Those beat my Empoleon X/Lucario X noob deck any day :p

i though i was good cause i started at cities :3 GUESS NOT save that donphan deck...it will be amazing after rotation but ya use charizard. also try to post it in the deck garage for some fixing cause regionals is no place to begin but if you go with a good deck you may be able to place WELCOME YOU HARDCORE PERSON :p

well, i started with my boyfriend, and we started buying a box of undaunted and triumphant, and lot of hgss, so we got ALOT of good cards.

i guess ill go with charizard then, since that seems to be the consenses
is donphan donk decks not good for regionals?

thanks btw

its not as great in this format because of its speed. donphan is great and can take out luxray but it still loses pretty bad to other decks (gyrados, dialgachomp, anything grass). next format donphan will be the new luxray pretty much

Charizard and Donphan both have their great points. They're actually quite similar - both can hit incredibly hard for only 1 energy (Donphan can hit 60, and Charizard can hit up to 80), and both of them have a sizable amount of HP and cannot really be 1HKO'd. The difference really lies in the support - Charizard gets more of it, due to Ninetales and Typhlosion Prime, it can get 1 free energy for the turn, and while you're at it, you drew 3 cards (only downside is Charizard took 10 damage). However, Donphan is a lot more of a tank - it can get set up much faster, being a Stage 1, and due to its Poke-Body it can last a very long time.

If you know what the top decks are in your area, though, that can give you a bit of an advantage to choose what to run (if there are tons of Jumpluff running around, for example, go with Charizard). Overall, though, I would say Charizard is the better deck because of how fast it can get set up - all it really needs is 1 Fire Energy in your hand.

Regionals isn't hard to play in per say, but if you want to win that's going to take some skill. ;D
Now being the Charizard deck lover that I am I say choose Charizard, but I can't truly help with the best deck choice because I don't know what the lists look like. In all honesty though I say go with Charizard because it has overall pretty decent matchups with most of the popular decks and puts up a better fight against Gyarados than Donphan does.

I have tried the Ninetails engine (pretty much Charizard) and by my surprise, it sets pretty slowly. Therefore, I will desagree with the others and vote for Donphan. Donphan has a better donking possibility, compared to Charizard.

But I am awarded that the deck pretty much loses against the other competitive decks, unless Donphan inflige hard damage to the opponents deck to a point that set up is not possible anymore...
