Ruling A question about starting with fossils

Let's say in my opening hand the only basic "pokemon" I get is skull fossil, do I play it as my only basic or do I mulligan until I get an actual basic pokemon? I assume the answer is that I play it as my only baisc pokemon, I just want to be sure. Keep in mind this is during set-up not the first turn.

You indeed play it Fossils can't be played if you go first but during set up that is fine

And if that wasn't clear enough... Yes, you HAVE to play it. In your starting hand fossils are a basic Pokemon as any other. You cannot choose to mulligan.
