Discussion Accelgor/Wobbuffet Expanded

Hey people!

I wanted to know what the communities’ perspective is on an old expanded favorite, Accelgor Wobbuffet. I know it was declared officially dead when Burning Shadows introduced Guzma, allowing players to run a way to consistently escape paralysis. However, most decks are only running a single copy, and with the extreme reliance on abilities in the current expanded meta, the deck seems like it could be a pretty strong play. For instance, Wobb should theoretically slow Zoroark down a TONE. Sure, they can still Wonder Tag for Brigette T1, but no Set Up, no Propogation, no Bloodthirsty Eyes, and most importantly, no Trade, so it should be pretty tricky to find their Guzma and the subsequent VS Seekers to efficiently loop it.

Here’s the list the finished 2nd in Portland last year:

Pokemon:

Shaymin EX x2
Shelmet (yawn) x4
Accelgor (DEX) x4
Mew EX x2
Munna x2
Musharna x2
Tauros x1
Wobbuffet x4

Trainers:

AZ x1
Professor Sycamore x4
N x2
Lysander x2
Ghetsis x1
Teammates x1
Colress x2
Computer Search x1
VS Seeker x2
Silver Bangle x1
Muscle Band x1
Level Ball x3
Virbank City Gym x3
Float Stone x4
Ultra Ball x3

Energy:

Double Colorless Energy x4
Mystery Energy x1

I’m not quite sure what a modern list would look like, as deckspace is pretty tight. Obviously, a 1-1 Guzma Lysandre split and at least a single Tapu Lele, not to mention swapping the silver bangle for choice band. Not sure if using Mew Ex is too good anymore, but I’m more sure what could be a viable replacement, as it really makes looping Deck and Cover way easier and more efficient...

Anyway, let me hear your thoughts and inputs!

You could add Sea of Nothingness to keep status conditions on after evolution... Possibly choice band instead of silver bengal... And could use Lele and Guzma among other things, that a more experienced player will help you with. Looks like a pretty decent core though!

Just some thoughts:

I've never played this deck before so I'm not sure if this would work, but you could try BCR stoutland instead of wobbuffet. That way you would guarantee you opponent doesn't guzma or acerola or az out of the paralysis, and it has a similar concept to shock lock, which is a fairly successful deck. I've also seen trevenant instead of wobbuffet, or with it, which also feels like a pretty good idea.

I would keep mew EX in there; I agree it helps a lot (and you can hit weakness against buzz, which is not as prevalent in expanded, and also gallade, which is more prevalent in expanded)

I don't really see any particular use to use the musharna engine. I know that it has been historically used in this deck, but I don't get why it's better than, say, zoroark, which can not only pick one of your top two cards, but it can pick both of them. Maybe someone can explain this to me if there's an actual reason. I feel like adding a 2-2 zoroark line wouldn't go astray, but you're really just running out of bench space at this point.

Something which is a bit controversial is that instead of running virbank you could run sky field/sevipers, but since everyone is playing sudowoodo for quad zoroark, I don't feel like it would be as successful. Even without changing your stadium, I think it would be wise to run a seviper or 2, but I'm not really thinking much about reaching numbers so I'm not sure how useful that would be.

And yeah I would take out the bangle and muscle band for 2 choice bands. Apart from that, all I can say is that 2 vs seekers does not sound very nice, but I'm not really sure how to make room for them. You weren't kidding about this being a tight list.
