Ruling Altered art?

So I was wondering if it is legal to play altered cards in tournaments. I went through the rules and it doesn't really say. I do a lot of painting and I like to do cards as well. I just don't want to spend all the time and no one could see the sweet paint jobs.

Cards with markings of any kind (art, signatures, etc) aren't allowed in tournaments whether or not the alterations are visible from the back or in sleeves. I don't have the document handy, unfortunately.
