ANOTHER Luxray Lv.X eBay hoax...

I was recently scammed into buying a Japanese Luxray GL Lv.X. Of course I didn't know it was Japanese at the time I made my bid. The only photo for the listing was of the back of a standard, English Pokemon card. I thought this was odd, but I read the description and it all seemed good to me. (No mention of it being Japanese). So anyway, after I won and paid, the seller removed the original picture of the back of an English card and replaced it with a picture of the actual card. A Japanese Luxray Lv.X. I'm in the middle of a 3 way war between the seller, eBay, and PayPal to get my money back.

Anyone else heard of any bait and switch "language" tactics like this?
 
:( I believe the card should still be legal even here in the US, how much was paid for it? It's not like everyone and their Poke-mom knows what the card does :D

If you paid significantly less than $60 for the card, you probably still got a decent deal, one less Luxray at Worlds lol

Does anyone know the rules of how many foreign cards can be in one's deck? And what you need for translations?
Seems to me that no more than 10% (6 cards) can be non-(English), but I could be mistaken.

Good luck on getting your money back, I'd keep the card anyway ;)
 
To the above poster, foreign cards are not going to be allowed during the 2010-2011 season, which means that the OP was tricked into believing he was buying a card that he could use for the next year at least, when in fact he can use it for all of 3 months.

Super shady, hope it works out for you. How much did you pay, pray tell?
 
I've seen a lot of people selling cards from the World Championship decks you can buy, that aren't legal. I'd hate to get duped like that, especially if paying the standard price for the real thing.

Ya, I saw something like that. A buy it now price for 40 dollars, and the picture was the legit lux x, so I looked into it, but in the description is said world champion card. So Alot of people trying to make a quick buck on those Lux X's

I haven't heard of this, but it does sound freaking shady. You'll probably win in the end, but it'll be a long battle. You should have emails from ebay that have the picture as it was on the listing when you bid. So that should be enough documentation of the scam.

Even though I'm an avid ebayer, I stay clear of buying pokemon cards there. There are tons of people out there trying to scam you with words cards, fake cards, and now foreign language cards.
 
The key to successful buying on eBay is to buy from trusted sellers. Lots of stores have eBay shops to sell singles on, and that's your best bet. Look at sellers who have thousands of positive ratings and you should be safe.

The number doesn't neccesarily matter. I bought a bootleg GBA game from a seller with thousands of positive refs. Instead you should look at the first few pages and see if any of the refs mention fraud or cheap tactics.

I see nowhere in the rotation announcement even on pokemon.com that states foreign cards will be illegal.

And also, how much did you pay for the lux x?
 
@amish: Very true.

@mr. 619: If you look at Pokegym, which is undoubtedly the best forum when it comes to actual official information (no hate) you'll see that PokePop, SD Pokemon, and several other big name PTOs have commented on it, saying that will be the case. There are several threads about it right now. That's always been the case, since they announced it last year.

When announcing the foreign card rule last year, they said that all foreign cards would be banned this time 'round, aye? They've already announced it, you could probably find it if you searched, and they'll OBVIOUSLY remind us before/when the new season kicks in.

Now, back on-topic, shall we?
I've seen a couple of such hoaxes, although non as devious as the one described in the opening post. The ones I have seen had pictures of the English cards with "Japanese" or whatever language it really was hidden away in the description. :x
