Discussion Any Suggestions on SUM-on Metagame in South Korea?

Hello, guys. I'm a Pokemon TCG player from South Korea.

There is a long story behind this, but Pokemon Company Korea just announced our next event(equivalent to regionals) will be on the format of Japanese version of Sun&Moon on.

It is a very awkward situation but I remember reading some threads on pokebeach about future SUM-on metagame discussions.

Can I get any suggestions about that 'fresh' metagame? Any advice will count.

Adding more details-

So far, South Korean TCG events were running on XY-on, Just same as the Japanese standard format.
And we're going to have SM4(Crimson invasion) coming out by Oct 13, even though we skipped SM3+(Shining Legends) for unknown reason.
Korean players are now considering the next format as a mixture of Pokemon GXs, which were existing on previous metagame, and some supporter card that haven't ever seen that much play.(Such as Sophocles or hau and massive amount of lillie.)

Some big things that I came to think about was
-Lack of ability locks- (except alolan muk) which leds sudowoodo to be even painful.
-No N, which make a late-game comeback even harder.
-Lack of energy boosting. Actually, all special energies have became consumables - Because special charge is gone, and enhanced hammer survived and kartana-GX entered the format.
-And no strong draw supporters or pokemon. most card that survived would be oranguru, Alolan Sandslash and some pokemons that have moves on drawing cards.

Wow... It’s not that I can help you that much, but it’s more that I’m pretty shocked to read this.

I think ‘Pokémon-wise’ it may not be the biggest problem to play just Sun and Moon cards, there are a lot of good Sun and Moon decks already, same for energies, but for trainers that’s a whole different story.

No XY Pokémon will already change the meta (no Volcanion, Greninja and so many more), but no Garbotoxin will really change meta, and the lack of great trainers might result in a game where luck is more influential... what are your experiences so far?

Can you maybe post a deck list for (one of your) deck(s), that might make it easier to give advise?

That's definitely interesting. Are you sure it's only Sun and Moon and on? I haven't heard of anywhere doing that for a Regional. Then again, I'm no expert on South Korean Regionals!

Oranguru should be a staple in every deck for it's draw support. I'd run a couple Lillie, 4 Sophocles, and 4 Hau. I'd also run a couple Wicke just to have SOME option of refreshing your hand and disrupting your opponent.

I think Gardevoir/Sylveon would be the best deck to run. Magical Ribbon would be so overpowered in the format. Even if they use Wicke on you you're still keeping a huge hand.

That sounds interesting. I haven't been playing TCG that long yet, but I can't image a deck without N or Sycamore, let alone SUM onwards.

From what I have read, I think that a variation of (hear me out) Vikavolt/ Tapu Koko GX might be an okay deck. Include a Drampa GX for a quick GX attack and you can utilize Hala as a support. Plus no ability lock (besides Alolan Muk), so Aero Trail will for for the most part go undisturbed. Then its just a quick Acerola or Super Scoop Up away (now that Garbodor isn't as powerful) from reseting a Tapu Koko GX.

This is just a thought, but let me know if you think it might be viable. Thanks!

Edit: I forgot to mention Vikavolt. With the loss of max elixir, Vikavolt is the only real way to keep energy on the field consistently. A lot more useful without Garbotoxin in the "format".

Gardevoir zoroark will crush it.
Alternatively, play Metagross.

Supporter wise you are going to lose N Sycamore and Brigette. I suggest liberal counts of nest ball, Lillie and sophocles.

I think I'm getting ahead of myself.

The support count will probably consist of either:

Hala+Drampa GX (Big Wheel GX)
Illima or Wikie
Sophocles+Lillie (from the post above)
Anything else that releases before hand (Lumasine)

On the subject of Tapu Koko/ Vikavolt, this is just a funny idea that I was proposing, and you are probably right. Maybe Tapu Bulu GX instead (maybe I should of said that first). On that note, all stage two decks (Metagross and Gardevoir) will probably lose popularity due to the lose of Brigette and Fan Club.

Because this change just got notified after our recent event, which was two days ago, I don't have that much experience on new format. I prepared Kiawe & Blacksmith based Turtonator/Volcanion/Ho-oh deck for that event and now need to think about a new deck.
Right now I'm just thinking about Metagross-GX deck aiming to utilize algorithm-GX on the early game and keeping large hand by constantly using hala. And Sophocles can be a good options to use because it helps me to discard more energies.

This change is possible because 'Pokemon company Korea' is not under control of TPCI, and having most influences coming from Japanese 'Pokemon Company'. And South Korean players doesn't really know this change will go on for the rest of season, or just for our next event which will be held three to four months away.

I think Gardevoir deck using Sylveon for set-up is really good on the viewpoint of consistency. With the absence of Brigitte, and expected low usage of Ultra balls(due to bad draw supporters) can make magical ribbon can really rock... Well, in contrast, there is still an option for disturbing your opponent's hand by using supporter "Team Rocket's haze"(I don't real translation for this card). And quite a lot of Korean players are now thinking this can be a good substitute for N. I post a picture of that card and effect of that here...

"Team Rocket's haze" - Supporter
Each player shuffles their hand into their deck. After that, each player draws five cards.
(This comes out from 'Ash vs Team Rocket 30 cards deck set')

I think decks based on Vikabolt is having quite an advantage on new format, because the whole card pool lacks energy boosting. Even though Tapu koko/bulu both have problems against stage 2s like Gardevoir or Metagross. Well, vikabulu or vikakoko are both a deck based on SUM-on cards and some tech cards like Aether paradise conservation area/olivia/acerola may power them up, so it can still be a decent selection.
Btw my opinion on stage 2 decks is a little bit different from yours. Even though massive spamming of stage 2s have became harder, with combination with Alolan Sixtales or Diancie, still playable and competitive because their strength still remains.(And other decks also suffer from loss of strong XY supporters.
