I know that Supporters were considered Trainers Pre-DP, but are Poke-tools considered Trainers or their own class of Poke-tools? Basically my question boils down to If I already have Kabutops MD as my Active, can my opponent attach a cessation crystal to their active to stop my poke-bodies and poke-powers?

It is more of a Specific Card, because Castaway can search for CC not Potion <example
So yes it still is a Trainer Card...

Tools are a specific type of Trainer Card, as are Supporters and Stadiums.

Supporters and Stadiums aren't considered Trainers anymore.

The rule change confused a lot of people, so let me explain it. First, the card types.

Trainers are Trainers.
Supporters are Supporters (even if they say "Trainer" at top left).
Stadiums are Stadiums (even if they say "Trainer" at top left).

What changed is how you interpret "Trainer" when it's mentioned in an attack or card effect.

If it's a card from before DP, "Trainer" means "Trainer, Supporter, or Stadium". (See Mawile CG -- she can fetch anything.)

If it's a card from DP or later, "Trainer" means "Trainer" only. Supporters or Stadiums are no longer included. (See Budew DP -- he can only fetch Trainer cards, not Supporters or Stadiums.)

So with Kabutops MD as my active, my opponent can only play supporter cards, correct?

He can't play Trainers. He can play Supporters and Stadiums.
