Artisan Cave Contest IV: Spriting (with a twist)

Welcome to the fourth Artisan Cave contest!

In this contest entrants will be tasked with mastering one type of spriting each week. What makes this different from any other spriting contest you ask? In this contest you can re-enter as many times as you'd like. That's right; in an effort to improve spriting here on PokeBeach SubZero, ArmaldoEX, and myself will be critiquing each entry and giving you the chance to hone and re-enter it. This contest is a perfect way to master spriting!

Here's how the contest will work: Each week, starting now, we will give the entrants one type of spriting to master (ex: recolors). Once they finish their entry they will post it here for critique, and once we've done that they may make changes to their sprite and re-enter. They may do this as many times as they like before the week is over, or they may choose not to. At the end of the week a winner will be chosen from the entries. This will continue for a set number of weeks, and after we will have one round were the winners from previous weeks will compete for the 1st place trophy.

Please note that you do not need to compete every week. You can just do the one week and still have a shot at the trophy.

Get your entries in before the judgment day so that you can receive critique, refine your sprite, and reenter.

Week I: Recoloring
Dates: 10/18 to 10/27
Notes: Submit a recolor along with the original sprite.
Winner: Pokemon Noobiepie

Week II: Devamping

Notes: Submit a DP sprite along with your devamps to the previous three generations.

Week III: Trainer Card

Week IV: Fusions/Mixes

Winner:

Final Week: Scratch (winners-only)

You didn't recolor the outlines. Other than that, a pretty good job, but not very creative.

I used shiny latias, shiny latios, shiny huntail, shiny spheal, and Regice...
You did a nice clean job with the recoloring, but the colors seem random and don't really have a general theme. If your going for the random look it's OK, but I personaly prefer more of a themed recolor.

Niether of you guy's sprites were too bad, but keep in mind that more complex recolors (where the body shape stays the same but the patterns are editied) will have an advantage.

I'll give this a shot. Hm...

How's that?

The base pokemon is a Quillfish. I recolored it with Electrode's colors. The nose was recolored with Houndoom colors. Three gueses as to what it is supposed to look like?

I really like this one, nice job. This is exactly what I mean when I say to stay with a theme. I really don't have any suggestions, although you migh want to try some other balls, even if they're not necesarily entered in this contest.

Aqua Arcanine.
Are you sucking up to my love of aqua :p? The highlight on it's back looks a bit weid where it falls on the stripes. Other than that, nice job, and you *might* consider recoloring the hair.

Hmmmmmmmm.....I would like to add a rule for this round (mabye some of the others).

Please supply the origional sprite as well. (the one you recolored)

Yes, colors and to make sure shading is accurate, and to make sure any oddities I find in the sprite aren't there fault. Also so that I can check to make sure that the colors don't vary a whole lot in contrast in the case that they make there own pallatte.

Okay added it. You might have to just go look for people that already submitted stuff though.

Sorry, but I have to be mean about this: ALWAYS SAVE SPRITES AS PNG! Once you do that I'll crit.

When I zoom I can see that you missed some pixels. The concepts good though, just touch up that sprite.

It's getting better, but I can still see a bit of purple outline between his legs. And perhaps recolor the grey outline on the belly to dark yellow.
