Atamask: Creating A Pokemon like Webcomic In Need of Brainstorming Ideas

Welp. Fairly new here so, hooray for my first post!

But Anyway. I'll elaborate on what I'm talking about.

I've actually had two web comics I've been working on for quite a while and I decided it's time to take a break from them.

Nowadays I know there are a lot of different little pocket monsters, Digimon, and Yu-Gi-OH type creatures. However,
Lately I've been thinking about making a series of my own. Since this has been done to death, I was thinking about aiming towards creating a little series based more towards storytelling and the psychological connection between humans and "insert said creatures here" rather than merchandising the said creatures themselves.
I plan on making the creatures fight along side the humans, because the audience I tend to aim towards is more 16-20 year olds.
However, I'm having issues deciding on how I should go about doing this. So I figure the easiest way is to ask an audience!
So I'll begin by asking you what you've always wanted to see in such things like Pokemon/Digimon/Medabots etc.
Along with some advice and ideas of your own.

1. What kind of main characters do you think should be done/ What kind of characters are too cliche? (This includes both character design and personality)
2. Should the creatures evolve/change? Or should they stay the same? Should they morph and change back?
3. Should the setting be planet earth or a fictional world?
4. What kind of animals have you always wanted to see revamped into a fantasy like form? Think about Pokemon you haven't seen made yet.
5. What kind of plot do you think should be set? Think about all the possibilities involving slavery, politics, religion, and war. (I don't want this to be a blood bath filled with gore, however, in the real world controversial topics would come into play.)

Thank ya'll in advance! ♥

(ps. I was thinking about doing something with Zodiac signs which would designate specific monsters to each human. Idk tell me what you think.)
Below is a tiny example of what I'm kind of aiming for... Forgive me for giving such a shitty sketch I'll revise things the more I go along with this.

This seems like a very cool idea! I'm not sure how much I should contribute to your idea making though, after all, it's your story.
Here's a tutorial on OC making. It may help in making characters for your story. It would be interesting to see creatures evolve because something has changed them, they've grown as a person. In most likelihood you're better off with a fictional world. Otherwise maybe the creatures could be genetically engineered to be the way they are.

Anyways, I'm excited to see more from you!

Errrr. um.... I don't think I need a tutorial...That seems kinda offensive of my abilities???
(lol I have my deviantart link in my tag actually been creating characters forever)

I'm more asking what people are fond of in main characters and what our generation would like to see more of. I don't really follow a set rule for designing a main character, I feel that's very limiting. I appreciate the help though! And I understand that it's my story and I will ultimately decide what I do with it, but I like to hear what everyone has to say, after all it's just brainstorming and I want to spark some ideas and creativity.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you with the tutorial. I didn't notice your signature, but now that I've checked your DA out I know what you mean. Designing characters that would attract people towards them is annoying. Sometimes you get it and sometimes it blows. Most times it's a rebel character that does well, like in The Hunger Games and such. Honestly, I don't know and I don't have much experience in these things.

btw, you have amazing art!
