Writing Athena Plays Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon - Complete! FE7 Next?

While some characters are better than others, there's no one that's really obviously bad or hurting (except for Tails' amazing slowness). I gave TGK an Energy Drop and he's doing a bit better now, though Silver still overshadows him I guess, and PMJ will probably overshadow Celever once she gets going.

Most likely after the next chapter I shall see if we could use a Master Seal on someone :p

Yeah, new chapter will be today. I got sidetracked yesterday and didn't have the time to sneak one in before dinner.

Chapter 12x: Tails still can't make up his mind

And so Prince Green and the Archanean League used the palace as their base and went about kicked out the rest of the occupiers and freeing the loyal Archaneans from Dolhr rule.

<Green> Well, that was... surprisingly easy. We didn't even have to fight anyone.
<BV> Yes, sire, it seems that the remaining occupying forces were eager to escape your wrath.
<Green> It's a pretty, really; we could use used the EXP. Are you sure there's no one resisting at all?
<BV> Well, there's this one area in the far west that seems to be taken control of by a knight named Horace who turned traitor to Archaenea. He and a few of his forces are holding onto a fortress in the area.
<Green> An Archanean traitor? This seems like the perfect way to set an example to what we do to traitors...
<TT> I do hope you will give him an opportunity to tell his side of the story before you jam his head on a pike.
<Green> Fine, but only to please you. Everyone, suit up, we're heading west first thing in the morning.
<Tails> I--
<Green> Yes, Tails, go ahead and swap to whatever class you feel like. Again.
<Tails> Thank you. >_>

Tails ran off and swapped his lances for bows, and PMJ made herself a fancy new forged tome, and everyone got a good night's sleep. The next morning, they were off. In order to comply with Princess TT's wishes and not kill Harold before they had a change to talk, Prince Green ordered his forces to go the long way around and take out the Grustian commander first. Jake, unable to keep up with the pace of the troops on his slow-moving ballista, was unfortunately surrounded and killed by enemies coming from the other direction.

<Jake> Oh, Anna, you'll always be the main FE character in my heart... x_x;

Meanwhile, Green and his troops visited a few villages, scored some loot, and mowed through the Grustian soldiers, including some Pirate reinforcements that came over the sea. PMJ managed to take down the boss on her own, and then Green took control of the castle. As soon as he did, Harold and his personal troops came over to yield.

<Harold> Do whatever you want to me, but please spare my men. They were only acting under my orders and are as loyal to Archanea as the night is long.
<Green> Well, Princess Nyna implored me to hear your side of the story before I executed you, so go ahead and have your say.
<Harold> *hangs head* I joined with Dolhr because they said they would raze the fields and kill all the women and children if I fought against them. I didn't have enough men to fight against them all, so I turned to their side to save the people. However, I have still sinned and I implore to give me the traitor's death I deserve.
<TT> I will not allow it!
<Harold> My lady?
<TT> I will not allow a general of your worth to die a useless death. If you want to die that badly, join up with the Archanean League and fight for your home. Prince Green doesn't seem to have a good track record of holding onto his soldiers, so you're guaranteed to die within a couple chapters, and you'll work to reclaim your name in the process.
<Harold> Well, if that's what you want...

If you would like more info for any reclass (such as hard stat numbers), feel free to ask!

Please vote for one character to reclass and which class you would like them to change to! The option with the most votes will win and be reclassed before the fighting next chapter begins. In the event of a tie or otherwise unclear winner, priority will be given to the character with the most total votes, followed by class votes, likes, and GM preference.

Please ask if you have any questions!

Forging!

We can (and will) forge one weapon per chapter as well. Forging a weapons gives it better attacking power, and also you can give the weapon a customized name! If you have any suggestions for names or weapons to forge, you're welcome to suggest them. Unlike Reclassing, votes/suggestions for Forging will not automatically be taken, since priority will be given to those characters that need a boost (such as low Str or recently reclassed units), but your thoughts and ideas will certainly be taken into account, especially for naming purposes.

Promoting!

We now have 3 Master Seals that we can use to promote one of our characters if we like. We don't need to promote anyone until they hit Lv. 20 in their base class, but they can be promoted early if you guys want, so feel free to give suggestions if/when you think we're ready for them.

Player Notes:

Since this was such a short chapter, let's boost it up a bit with another unit recap! This time, I also talk a bit about promotion options and what that will mean for character utility.

Prince Green
K9be0fM.png

Not much of a change since last recap; a couple levels but middling stat gains. The Boots that I gave him last chapter give him a whopping 9 mov, though, which is useful for Green to do the things that he really needs to do, namely get to chests and villages as fast as possible. We're just about at the point in the game where he'll start to decrease in value as a fighting unit until he gets the Falchion, but that's not where his main utility is anyway, so that's fine just fine.

Promotion: N/A

TGK
82NFW27.png

Even after feeding him an Energy Drop, TGK is still tied for the second-worst Str of the group, beaten only by Vom. He's also the first character to completely use up his forge, since it's the only consistent way of getting him to ORKO units, so we'll probably make him a new one next chapter. That said, he's also at C swords now which is nice since it means we can give him effective weapons and/or a Killing Edge. Still a lesser Navarre, though.

Promotion: Promoting TGK to Swordmaster isn't all that much of a change. It gives him 1-3 points in each stat except Lck, an additional movement point, and a boost to B Swords, which would let him wield silver. The stat boost would be nice, but he doesn't get that much out of the deal.

Palutena
fuiqBl7.png

Palutena has both Spd and Lck capped now, but she's still tied with TGK for second-worst Str. Mostly she flies around and gets effective kills with her Wing Spear, and she's very reliable for being able to double even the fastest enemies. Her movement range is easily her best aspect since it enables her to get around wherever is needed, provided she stays out of archer range.

Promotion: Unlike most FE games, Palutena's promotion does not keep her Pegasus, she instead becomes a Dracoknight. In this game, the Falcoknight promotion was only available via a limited number of Elysian Whips available via wi-fi download, but since Nintendo shut down their DS wi-fi service, these items are no longer available. The Dracoknight promotion would give Palutena a very needed boost in Str and Def (4-5) and gives her an extra 2 mov, but remove all of her Mag and Res. She'd also gain access to Axes, which would supplement her Str even further.

Tails
DK4K6u8.png

Tails has been flopping around in classes the most out of everyone, it seems. :p Though Hunter is probably working out for him the best (I could make an argument for Merc being best for him specifically, but we already have sooo many sword users). He's up to C bows now and is one of my most reliable characters in terms of consistent one-rounding, though the constant class-swapping has likely hindered him a bit in terms of focus; a lot of work spent on building up axe and lance experience that's going nowhere.

Promotion: Tails going Horsemen is actually pretty ideal for his skillset. Horsemen get both Bows and Swords, so he would be able to use the 2 weapons that he has the highest ranks in (C for each), and he would get a horse to boost his movement significantly. His stat gains are pretty well-rounded, getting a 2-3 increase in everything except Str and Lck, and Tails's Str is already the highest of the group.

Silver the Silent
TFUw2YM.png

Myrm/10. If you compare Silver and TGK directly, you'll see that Silver matches or exceeds him at all stats, and has a one-up in Sword rank as well. Luck may seem like a dump stat, but it helps with dodging which is very important in the Myrm/SM line. Overall, Silver is pretty good at killing things and a consistent player-phase unit, though I usually rely on my beefier characters for enemy-phase work.

Promotion: Like TGK, the Swordmaster promotion for Silver doesn't do much aside from a ~2 point stat boost. He would get a raise to A Swords, but he's already almost there on his own anyway.

Celever
dpMNbyC.png

Celever is definitely the lesser Mage that we have right now, sadly. Her stats are pretty pitiful, but at least she hits for Res, which very few enemies have, so she can still usually one-round enemies if she can double them (which is touch and go, given her poor Spd).

Promotion: Promoting Celever to Sage would give her a boost to D tomes and also give her back her Staff access, which would be very useful. The actual stat gains of the promotion would be low (she gets 3 Str for some reason, and 2 Res, but only +1 to her other stats); what she'd mostly be gaining is utility, since she doesn't really have a firm place in the army at the moment.

Keeper
l6N45D9.png

Prepromote/10. Keeper's level gains are good when he gets them, but he's still only getting ~15 or so EXP per kill, so it's a slow time going, and in the meantime, he's pretty mediocre. I'll probably work on feeding him a lot more kills now that PMJ is up to code, and he could use an Iron Sword forge, too.

Promotion: N/A

BB
pxigVqM.png

BB is still our best and most consistent unit. A lances is really nice, and he's slowly working on building up his Sword rank, too. With his high Def and Move and good command of the weapon triangle, he's my go-to for enemy-phase work, and as a result, he gets levels without even trying and is usually ahead of the curve.

Promotion: BB's promotion is Paladin, which gives him a good chunk of stat boosts, especially in Res (+6!). He would also get up to 10 Mov. He doesn't gain any additional weapon ranks, but he already had 2 to swap between, so that's okay. Basically, this would just be making our best unit even better.

Vom
1YxjW5m.png

Lolololol 5 Str. Really the only thing Vom has going for him is his high Spd which basically guarantees doubling. I mostly use him for chip damage when feeding kills to other characters. His only gain from my last unit overview is a handle of attacking EXP and an extra 2 Lck from a Goddess Icon.

Promotion: N/A

Athena
GkOGD30.png

Another prepromote. Athena's stats are kind of mediocre across the board except for Def (which is really good) and Skl (which is awful; 7?!). She starts off with an A in Axes which is nice... except that axes have the worst hit and she has awful Skl. Both Tails's Axe (that she commandeered after Tails stopped being a Pirate) and her Lance have +hit added to them to give her a bit of a boost. Mostly I use her as a lure/tank; her Def is so high, she can even tank an archer hit if necessary.

Promotion: N/A

PMJ
szLg6eD.png

Even though she's still a lower level, PMJ blows Celever out of the water in terms of being an offensive Mage. Her Mag is significantly higher, as are all of her other stats except Def/Res. She's also already at C Tomes, and can wield Aura.

Promotion: Like Celever, PMJ would promote to Sage, though she gets less out of it than Celever does. The stat gains for the promotion are minimal, and she's already at C tomes so she doesn't get a boost there. Instead she gains access to Staves, which is nice, but starting at E rank means her only usable Staff is Heal, unless she staff grinds (which she likely would).

---

So, that's that. Since we're getting to be around promotion time, I'll continue to keep people updated on promotion information, especially for recently reclassed characters.

This chapter was really rather easy and short; that seems to be typical for Gaidens. TT's actual conversation with Horace is significantly different in game, but seeing that Horace is just waiting for the pyre, I thought it would be best not to get his hopes up.

I really have to be better about killing people off, especially now that we're building up a good team. I'm beginning to get less and less extra deploy spots, so those characters that have been hanging around (Jagen, Maria) are likely going to go next chapter if I can deploy them. Bantu gets a pass since he's needed for SM's recruitment. Other characters will have to be attempted to be killed during their recruitment chapter if at all possible. We already can't recruit Astram; I don't want to get stuck in another weird situation as I'm desperately trying to kill people off for gaiden access.

And speaking of killing people off, Jake was tough. I ended up parking him in a spot where a knight was slowly chipping away his HP 1 at a time until a Mage finally game down and finished him off. Horace is going to be similarly difficult with his silly 17 Def. I hope there are mages next chapter...

Anyway, hope you enjoy! Feel free to suggest reclassing and promotion options for next time. :3

Vom is definitely the worst unit; you'd have to work really hard to be as crappy as he is.

I am the man who wears many hats it seems. :p

If me being promoted to Horseman helps out the team as a whole; I have no problem with being promoted.

Tails a Horseyman? Less do it! Go horsey go!

All the kiddy talk aside, Tails being a horseman would be very useful. Primarily because of his speed and able to provide chip damage to all the other units that need EXP or are unable to kill mobs themselves at all.

Chapter 13: No one knows where we're going or why

<Green> Alright, so, that's all the resistance? Archanea is freed?
<BV> Yes, it appears to be so, milord.
<Green> Excellent! Now we must move onward and forward to liberate my homeland, Altea. Everyone, to the boats!

And so Prince Green and the Archanean League sailed across the... sea? Inlet? Whatever small body of water, because apparently marching over land would have been too difficult. The journey was peaceful (which means no boat-fighting chapter, sadface) and they landed on the coast near Fort Menedy, an outpost on the far western edge of Archanea near the border of Gra. There, they met with bad news.

<BV> Sire, I'm afraid there's some bad news.
<Green> *sigh* What is it now?
<BV> It appears the Grustian Wooden Cavalry is holding Fort Menedy.
<Green> Damnit, I thought you said Archanea was free!
<BV> Well, we kinda forgot about this part.
<Green> Oh well, they're in our way anyway, so let's destroy them. What is this "wooden cavalry" anyway, some kind of Trojan Horse?
<BV> Ballistae, sire.
<Green> Alright, well, let's get ready. Tails, what class are you going to swap to this time?
<Tails> I was actually going to ask for a promotion, sire.
<Green> Oh? And why do you feel you deserve a promotion?
<Tails> Well, I'll get a horse so I'll be faster. And it would let me use swords AND bows so I'd be more useful.
<Green> Alright, fine, go grab a Seal. Anything else?
<Athena> Minerva and I are a bit unsure about this battle, Green.
<Green> Minerva?
<Athena> That's my wyvern's name.
<Green> Oh, well, what's the problem?
<Athena> We're weak to Arrowspates and bad at dodging. Do you think you'd mind if I left her behind and grabbed a bow for this mission? I'm promoted, so reclassing mean I'll start at Bow C.
<Green> Eh, sure, why not. Leave Minerva with the caravan.

Once everyone was ready to go, Green and the League quickly rushed into range. They would need to get up close to the Ballistae as fast as possible in order to do any damage to them. Projectiles hailed forward, most of them missing their targets. Green himself ducked into a village to check out the local scene and managed to snag another ally.

<Beck> Hey, my name's Be--
<Green> Is that your Ballista?
<Beck> Yes?
<Green> And you're not fighting for Grust?
<Beck> No?
<Green> Good, your hired. Now get your ass out here. There's a war going on!
<Beck> ... Okay? >_>

At Green's orders, Beck quickly went to work taking out some of the other Ballistae in range while the others continued their relentless pursuit towards Fort Menedy. Ballisticians were killed left and right, but the hail of missiles continued, and although many missed their targets, some members of the Archanean League bravely met their ends here.

<Jagen> Sire... Fight for Altea... x_x;
<Maria> Sister... x_x;
<Harold> Princess... this death is for you... x_x;

Even newly-recruited Beck fell prey to a Ballista specifically built to destroy other Ballistae.

<Beck> Man, I really didn't last long in this game... x_x;

Finally, they made their last push and overwhelmed the remaining Ballistae, including the boss, then went inside the Fort to rest up and lick their wounds.

<TT> That was a fine battle today, milord! ^_^
<Green> ... ... ...
<TT> Why so brooding? Look, you even gained a level!
<Green> *shrugs* Some of the local villagers have been talking. It seems that they've learned from the Grustian occupation forces that many of them don't even want to be here and are fighting against their will. Grust is split pretty cleanly between those who are in favour of the war and those who would rather throw in their arms with our League.
<TT> Well, that's good, right? It means our enemy doesn't have as strong of a hold as we thought he did, and we have many potential allies still to find.
<Green> But that's the point! Ever since they killed my dad and destroyed my country, I've had nothing but hatred in my heart for Grust and Gra and Dolhr. It is hard to learn that those you despise are not all evil.
<TT> Well, Dolhr's still pretty unequivocally evil...
<Green> You're right. I guess I'll focus my hatred on them. The others... well, we'll fight as they come to us still, I guess. Not much else we can do.
<TT> After all, it is the point of the game.

I'm going to start these Notes off with a bit of SD background/world information, actually. One of the reasons that I had such a hard time following SD the first time I played it is that the game is really awful at explaining to you where you are, where you're going, who you're fighting, and why. Place names are often given once or not at all, and your only sense of the overall world map is a quick, short animation at the very beginning of every level. Because of this, usually I have to do a little bit of investigating in order to properly explain things.

This chapter was... particularly tricky in that respect. The opening narration says that Green, etc. are heading to Altea, but the animation shows them moving to a location that is actually on the island of the country Gra, and the enemies are all shown as being from Grust. What?

Thankfully, the name of the fort in this chapter is given, Fort Menedy, and if you do a bit of research, you'll learn that Menedy is the name of a mark/march of Archanea, so it's likely that at least part of it (the part containing the aforementioned Fort) was located on the same island as Gra, acting as a sort of buffer zone between Archanea and its vassal. I don't know where this information came from, since it's certainly not in the game, but it's probably from one of the manga, or other various informational resources that have been released over the years.

Anyway, Tails becomes our first promotion. Yay Tails! \o/ And Athena goes Sniper, which really isn't too bad since it helps boost up her Skl. I would have liked to forge her a bow, but TGK desperately needed a new forged sword since he used his up last time so he got priority. Keeper could also use a forged sword. To many forges needed, not enough chapters.

This chapter is indeed kind of annoying. Ballistae for the most part have horrible hit rates, but when they hit, they hit hard. The Arrow ones are particularly deadly to fliers, so Palutena stayed out of range until endgame. I ended up having to abuse positioning to get Jagen, Maria, and Horace targeted since the enemy seemed to prefer to target PMJ, Keeper, and Vom. After a few rounds of waiting while they were killed, we eventually moved in. I initially didn't think that I'd be able to get Beck killed this round but he was juuuust able to get in range of the Ballista-effective Thunderbolt and got OHKOed. So, the excess fluff on our team has been expelled, except for Bantu who's still sticking around to get our last recruit.

This means, of course, that we've started picking up more faceless replacements, including another Knight. *sigh* Why does the game keep giving me Knights...

Alright, that's enough rambling from me. As usual, please continue to give reclass and promotion suggestions. :3

Shoot em' up TGK!

Hmm, honestly you're in a decent position now Athena, despite having quite a few chip damagers...

Chapter 14: Prince Green gets his revenge, part 1

<Green> Alright, so, we're really close to Gra right now, so I think we should conquer them.
<BV> Excellent idea, milord! After all, it was King Jiol who stole Falchion from your father and we must recover that blade at all costs.
<Green> Oh, yeah, Falchion, right. I kinda forgot about that. >_>
<BV> You did?
<Green> Yeah, I was just hoping to take over Gra as revenge for them pretending to be our ally and then betraying us and killing my father and all.
<BV> Oh.
<Green> But the Falchion thing is a good point, too. So, let's make a plan to storm their castle.
<TGK> Um, Prince Green sir, do you think it would be okay if I went back to being an Archer?
<Green> Son of a.... we just forged you a new sword that you haven't even touched and you want to give it up and go back to being an Archer? >_<
<TGK> Well, uh, I could give me sword to someone else who would use a nice sword like Keeper or so.
<Green> Fine, whatever. Everyone in this army just does what they want anyway.
<TGK> Yippee! *runs off*
<Green> Anyone else want to change their plans? No promotions or anything? Good. Now go suit up. We have a castle to storm and some loot to pilfer.

The Archanean League quickly assembled and made the short march to the Gra Bastion where King Jiol was waiting with a host of foes. Green sent his forces across the bridge and into the fort itself while he circled around to visit a local village. While the League was busy dispatching the Gra soldiers, reinforcement because to fly in. Familiar reinforcements. They angled around towards Green.

<Catria> Hey, Princey, remember me?
<Green> Oh, hey Catria. We saved your princess's sister, well, uh, temporarily anyway. But Athena herself is still here fighting with us. You coming to join in?
<Catria> Yep! This is my older sister, Palla; she's coming, too.
<Palla> Hello. ^_^
<Green> So, uh, those other pegasus knights I see flying over the sea at us... I don't suppose they're coming to join us, too?
<Palla> Sorry, no. >.> Our sister Est should be meeting up with us at some point, but she was sent on a mission to Grust and we haven't seen her.
<Green> Well, hopefully we'll find her at some point.

Unfortunately for the Whitewing sisters, when they flew to speak to Prince Green, they put themselves into range of a group of archers, and then proceeded to be summarily sniped and killed.

<Palla> Sorry, Athena... x_x;
<Catria> Wish we could have been more useful... x_x;
<Green> Man, Athena is going to kill me... >_>

Whistling innocently, Green continued on his way towards the fort, tossing through chambers and looking for loot. Although he found some sweet treasure chests, no Falchion was to be found. Meanwhile, the Archanean League found itself split up as TGK, Athena, and Linde went to defend against the PK reinforcements while the rest stormed into the throne room. Silver and Celever teamed up to defeat King Jiol, and then Green took the throne as soon as the stragglers were rounded up.

<TT> Congratulations, Prince Green, your revenge has officially begun! Soon, you will be back in your homeland, wresting it away from the control of betrayers and usurpers.
<Green> Yeah, but... Falchion's not here. :\
<BV> That no good scoundrel IE must have stolen it and taken it back to Khadein with him.
<Green> Really? How do you know?
<BV> Oh, uh, I dunno actually. Convenient plot device?
<Green> *sigh* I suppose we must make a detour and go to Khadein before freeing Altea, then. Damnit.
<TT> So close. :<

Player Notes:

A very easy chapter. Enemy density is low until the PK reinforcements arrive, and those are easy to snipe off. This is the first chapter that uses Longbow Archers and Fortify Clerics, but they don't pose much of a problem. The most difficult thing was killing off my replacements again. They keep giving me Knights. >_<

TGK is back to being an Archer and promptly lost half of his Spd so he can't double anything. He also started off at E Bows. *sigh* I fed him a lot of kills against the PK reinforcements since he doesn't need to double them to kill them and managed to get him up to C Bows, but he didn't gain any Spd with his single level up. Poor TGK.

Speaking of bad level-ups, now that Palutena has capped her best stats she's starting to have zero gain level ups. Probably a good idea to promote her soon. Celever would also be a good promotion. I guess anyone could be a decent promotion about now, but those are the 2 I would pick.

Otherwise, not much else to report. We're getting a whopping 4 replacements for next chapter and they're starting to give me promoted classes now. :p At least no Knights/Generals, so they should be easy to kill, though one of them is a Sorc so that class option is currently closed to Tails and Keeper at the moment.

Hope you enjoyed the chapter. :3 Please drop by to suggest some reclasses and promotions for next time.

TGK can take a sniper promo and Cap'n BB can promote to Paladin then reclass to Sniper.

WE ARCHER EMBLEM BRO

So, I just noticed now that C15 disappeared completely. :| I had posted it shortly after several hours of maintenance-related downtime, so I'm guessing there was some kind of hiccup. *sigh* I'm certainly not going to re-write it completely, but I'm going to instead see if I can reference the discrepancy when I do C16 later today.

For the record, I did promote BB and reclass him to Sniper and that was our reclass for C15. So, uh, if anyone is around and wants to suggest a reclass in the next hour or so for C16, you're welcome to. :U

Chapter 16: The quest to find Chapter 15

<Green> Ohgod, my head hurts. Why does my head hurt so much?
<Palutena> Stop talking so loudly! Every syllable you speak is like glass shards entering my brain.
<TGK> Oh, wow, this is a nice bed.
<Green> TGK? What are you doing here?
<BB> Yeah, man, I don't recall crawling into bed with you last night.
<Keeper> My liege? Is that you over there?
<BB> Yeah, I'm over here, you're in here too, Keeper?
<Vom> Who all is in here anyway?
<Tails> I'm not sure I even want to know...
<Celever> This bed is so large that the entire army might be hidden in the blankets somewhere.
<TT> Hey, who's that touching my leg? Silver, is that you?
<BV> Oh, whoops, that was me, sorry.
<Palutena> Will you guys just shut up already?
<PMJ> My tunic is so wrinkly. :|
<Vom> Just be grateful your tunic is still on, my lady.
<Celever> Mine, too, thank Naga. *sigh*
<Athena> I don't think anyone got up to any shenanigans, but, the question stands... where the hell are we and what happened?
<Green> Alright, everyone just calm down... does anyone remember our last battle at all?
<BB> Desert... I definitely remember desert.
<Tails> Yes, that's right! All that sand... the horses had a hard time getting through it.
<Keeper> There was a great Mage, the one who stole your sword.
<Green> Oh, that's it! That's right! We're in Khadein, we came here to beat up IE and retrieve the Falchion, but...
<PMJ> He was way too powerful for us; none of our attacks could do anything to harm him, thanks to the power of his Imhullu stepp.
<Keeper> Thankfully, he got bored and left before too long...
<TGK> ... but not before challenging you to follow him to... someplace if you wanted to get the Falchion back.
<Vom> We were able to defeat the rest of the foes and take over the castle.
<Palutena> And then you and I, Green, went around hunting for treasure, but the Falchion was nowhere to be found.
<PMJ> And then I killed the boss and we took over this fort.
<TT> And once inside, we were contacted by the White Sage Gotoh.
<Green> Yes, I remember! I thought he was a ghost, but he was communicating to us by magic, and he told us how we can breakthrough the power of his magic.
<Celever> And then we proceeded to celebrate with the largest and best Halloween party ever seen in the whole continent of Archanea!
<Green> What's a halloween and why should we have been celebrating it?
<Palutena> Who knows? Must have been quite the party, though.
<TT> It seems like we've pieced together the most important parts of our memories, at least.
<Athena> Indeed. We came to Khadein and fought against IE, but he was too powerful for us and we could not stop him from leaving and taking the Falchion with him. However, we were able to defeat the rest of the enemy's forces that were left in Khadein. Once we had control of the fort, White Sage Gotoh appeared to us via magic and told us to find the Lightsphere and the Starsphere so that he could create the magic tome Starlight, the only power that can defeat IE's Imhullu.
<Green> Wow, nice recapping skills, Athena.
<Athena> Thank you.
<Green> That still doesn't explain why we're all in this giant bed though.
<Silver> Clearly we came here to sleep.
<Green> Mystery solved!

Still recovering from their epic Halloween party, Prince Green and the Archanean League had a nice, leisurely morning counting out and distributing their loot, eating large breakfasts, and preparing to head back out on the road. Although they failed to recover the Falchion, their next destination was clear: Prince Green's home, Altea. The League finally had enough experience and manpower to begin the arduous task of freeing Altea from occupation, and once done, the work would give Green another dent his in revenge, and also a closer base of operations to move against their remaining enemies, particularly Grust.

<Green> Alright, everyone, here's the plan. We sail back south and land here, in the Northeastern part of Altea where the fewest enemies are. Then, we circle around widdershins to reach the castle.
<BB> Widdershins?
<Green> Well, it doesn't make sense for me to say "counterclockwise", does it? After all, clocks haven't been invented yet.
<BB> Fair enough.
<Green> Anyway, we can hit up a couple villages on the way and start picking off their flyers as we go. Blah, blah, you guys know the drill. Any questions?
<Palutena> *raises hand*
<Green> Yes, Palutena? Looking to take that promotion into Dracoknight finally? :3
<Palutena> Actually, I'd like to become an Archer, if you don't mind...
<Green> All you bloody Archers... I swear you're going to be the death of me. -_-;;
<Palutena> I'll take that as a yes. :3

While Green wept at all the unused Lances and Axes currently sitting in the convoy, Palutena grabbed some new weapons from the solely-depleted stock of Bows and ran to get ready. Soon, the League was on their way to Altea.

The moment they touched down on the shores, Grustian troops began to work their way towards them. The foot and horse soldiers began their trek around and over the various rivers, but the Dracoknights were able to fly a more direct route and were easily taken down by the Archanean League's many bow-users. Prince Green led the charge, quickly outdistancing his fellow soldiers as he rushed to visit the two villages to the northwest.

<Green> Hey! Anyone here feel like fighting?
<Arran> Sure, pick me!
<Green> You're not an archer, are you?
<Arran> Nope, Paladin.
<Green> Thank god, you're coming with me. Do you know if there's anyone at that other village that will come to fight, too?
<Arran> Well, Samson's over there, but that village and this one have had a feud going for hundreds of years, and they saw you come over here first, so they'll probably lock the gates at not even let you in.
<Green> Seriously?! What the hell, I'm their prince!
<Arran> *shrugs* People are weird.
<Green> Well, once Altea's under my control again, I'm going to get rid of this stupid feud... with firepower, if necessary.

Green and Arran quickly continued to move around the map countercl-- I mean, widdershins, while the remaining soldiers struggled to keep up. Desperate to protect his liege from the men coming to meet them, Arran rode ahead quickly, and found himself one-shot by a Cavalier with a Ridersbane.

<Arran> At least I died fighting... I'd hate to get old and sick and die in my bed or something... x_x;

Seeing his lone bodyguard decimated, Green decided to wait for the rest of the League to catch up, but by then, they were under attack from both side, with soldiers from the castle coming from the south and reinforcements pouring down from the northern fortresses. Finally regrouped together, the Archanean League attempted to form a defensive barrier that would protect them from both ends. The barrier was something of a failure due to a lack of melee-oriented fighters, but eventually they were able to wipe out the waves of soldiers and continue the push towards the castle.

As they got closer, Green split the army into two parts. One section, led by BB, turned north to take the gates of the castle while Green and a smaller team went to a fortress to the east to see if there was anything good over there. Not only did they swipe a Master Seal from the Hero guarding the door, but they also foudn a new recruit.

<Xane> Hey Princey!
<Green> Oi, is that.... trap Cordelia? o_o;
<Xane> Nope! My name's Xane, and I'm a shapeshifter! :D
<Green> Ooooh, neat-o.
<Xane> These people here have captured me and have been trying to force me to transform for them, but I'm really not interested in that kind of work. Mind if I join up with you instead?
<Green> Sure, that would be great!
<EnemyHero> What, you think I'm going to let you join the enemy just like that, puny pink haired man? *stab*
<Xane> Urk.... x_x;;
<Green> Eww, he got blood on my boots. :|

Once the enemies in the eastern fort were taken care, Green and the others marched their way back to the castle where PMJ had single-handedly taken down the boss and the others were all sitting around waiting for him.

<Green> Finally, Castle Altea is mine at last! :D
<BV> Not quite yet, sire. I'm afraid there are still many enemies left inside that you will have to rout.
<Green> Damnit, can't they just leave yet. >:| *sigh* I guess it's time to prepare for a siege...
<TT> Perhaps you'd care to give a nice, rousing speech to your soldiers first?
<Green> Ugh, do I have to?
<TT> Yes.
<Green> *clears throat* Friends, warriors, bench fillers, cannon fodder.... thank you all for your continued efforts to aid me in my revenge. Thanks to your bravery and cunning, we have managed to get rid of most of the soldiers occupying my country. Only a few cowardly remnants remains inside the castle. Together, we shall kick their asses out!
<Everyone> Yay! \o/

Player Notes:

RIP Chapter 15.

Athena's summary in the introductory dialogue gives you a basic rundown of what happened. It's actually a pretty important chapter from a plot perspective, so I'm pretty disappointed that it's gone, but I certainly wasn't going to try rewriting the whole thing from scratch. You'll have to deal with having as hazy of a memory of that chapter as our characters do, unless you were lucky enough to see the chapter before it was eaten by the void.

Anyway, here's our unit breakdown based on how many units we have that can wield each of the available weapon types:

Sword - 5
Lance - 0
Axe - 0
Bow - 6
Tome - 2

Welcome to Archer Emblem. :U

It's actually kind of interesting to play through the chapter with our unit breakdown. It's forcing me to play quite a lot differently than I would otherwise, especially when we had all the reinforcements pouring in.

In terms of individual performance, BB isn't a bad Sniper. At least he kept most of his Str when he transferred over, so that combined with C Bows lets him actually kill things. Poor Palutena is stuck down at E so I forged her an Iron Bow to help her out, but she and TGK move so few squares (5 mov!) that they were constantly lagging behind. And speaking of TGK, his Spd is so low that he's doubled by a lot of enemies and can only double Knights. >_>

As such, I'm mostly reliant on Silver and Marth on the front lines. There were too many Ridersbanes this level for me to feel comfortable leaving Tails or Keeper in the way of enemies, and since they're the only mounts that I have anymore, they're also the ones in charge of running errands and other fun stuff. Also, Vom dodges like a sack of potatoes (read: he sucks at dodging) and his Def isn't so hot, so I don't want to leave him in front either. There were actually a few times this level where I had BB as a front guard even though he wouldn't counter.

Also, Xane really did recruit himself and then immediately die both in the same enemy phase. It was kind of hilarious.

Anyway, as always, please suggest reclasses and promotions for next chapter, unless you'd like to see the continuation of Archer Emblem, in which case feel free to suggest another Archer/Sniper. :U We've got 2 Master Seals for promotions now, and we'll be getting another next chapter.
