Hi all,

I'm attending my first tournament in a weeks time and apprantly a lot of the competition use mainly top tier meta (as you would expect in the master division) so I'm looking for somewhere for advice to read up about the top tier decks to learn how theyre played so I can learn to play against them ;)

Thanks in advance.

Do you plan on playing that Greninja Break or Lucario deck? Also, what kind of tournament is it? Standard/Expanded? Just a smaller tournament at a local shop, or a larger one like Regionals?

If it's a smaller tournament then you'll want to plan against your local meta for the most part, but if it's a larger one then you need to plan on playing or countering the overall popular decks.

Personally, I just attended my first standard tournament of the season best of 3 at a local shop over the weekend with Greninja Break, and went 1-4. I tried to over tech my deck, and ended up gimping it too much. Should have went with my original strategy and I feel like I would have done much better.

Here is what I played against:

Volcanion: L 1-2
M Mewtwo: W 2-1
Galvantula/Raikou/Magnazone: L 1-2
Raichu/Bats: L 1-2
M Scizor/Garb: L 1-2

Really the only "Meta" decks I faced were M Mewtwo and M Scizor, but since it was a smaller tournament lots of people played more varied decks.

Hi again bud,

I will be playing my Lucario Deck (cant fisnish my greninja deck until payday lol). it will be a standard format tournament with a estimate of around 24 players.

I was speaking to the owner of the store and he was telling me it has a good competitive scene there will alot of top tier decks being played.

24 players is probably going to be a five or six round tournament so be prepared for a long day, assuming best of 3 and you don't plan on dropping out. Some people drop once it's clear they won't make top cut. Personally, I normally play all the rounds regardless just for the experience.

I would browse the "Metagame deck discussion" under the "TCG competitive play" section of this forum if you haven't already. The top tier 1 and 2 decks are listed there so you can get a general idea of what the deck will look like and how it's played, then figure out what your deck does that is either a counter, simply faster, or outlasts or whatever your main strategy is.

Also, since it's a smaller one at a local store find out if they have a league you can go to and practice with the people that plan on being there. Then you will have a better idea of what you'll see and how to play against it since you'll be able to practice with them.

Have you posted your deck in the deck garage yet? Seeing the full list might help people recommend a few tech cards to swap out.

Yeah I'd stay for the full lot just to gain experience and game time like you ;)

I'll take a browse around that forum later tonight thanks

They don't really do league play as such because they tend to tie it all into tournaments because they always get good turn outs to tournaments rather than people playing league.

And lastly, No it didn't even cross my mind to post my deck lol I'll get on that later xD
