Ruling AZELF LV.X vs SCEPTILE

Say i have azelf lvx as my active, 1 psychic energy attached to it. my opponent has one whatever grass pokemon as his active with 1 grass energy attached to it, but has a sceptile in his bench 1 grass energy attached to it too.
does azelf lvx attack does 20 or 40 to 1 of my opponents pokemon?
I believe 40 but i want to make sure, thanks.

Choose 1 of your opponent's Pokemon. Put 1 damage counter on that Pokemon for each Energy attached to all of your opponent's Pokemon.

The phrase "each Energy attached" means to count units, not cards. Your opponent has 4 units attached with Sceptile in play. You place 4 damage counters.

Do note that Azelf places damage counters rather than dealing damage. There's a big difference.

Energy Cards count the actual card- for example, Double Rainbow Energy, while counting as two energy, is still only one energy card. Energy refers to the actual energy provided- DRE would count for two energies in this case.

I think this is what he (foo) was asking for.

THe difference is that placing damage counters is an effect of an attack so it will bypass shield attacks such as leaf guard however, they are not affected by weakness/resistance.
