Bad Timing with Virizion / Genesect?

Hello everyone,

I'm finally getting to look at assembling my first competitive deck. I've been absolutely obsessed with one deck since I started playing Pokemon and that deck is VirGen.

I enjoy the idea of the play style, I think all of the card art is fairly superb, and Genesect is my second favorite Pokemon. But it just seems like a terrible time to be playing the deck.

Between an upcoming rotation, Pyroar and other EX/Basic blocking Pokemon, and cost the deck itself just doesn't seem wise to build. It also didn't seem to do so well at US Nationals outside of the Juniors division.

I know from other TCG experience rotations are always tumultuous times but I just wanted to see if my assessment of VirGen was correct.

As a note, at the local league I believe almost 90% of the decks were Yveltal variants.

VirGen is a good deck still. It will most likely not see its Tier 1 spot, but it still does well. VirGen and TDK are in the same boat. They both run no basics. I think TDK was in the Top 4 of Nationals this year. He just accepted that Pyroar was an autoloss and ran with it. If you like a deck run with it, and it could work. If you are really scared of pyroar you could tech with it. I have been using 1-1 M Kangskhan.

In my Virizion/ Genesect deck I actually have a pretty high tech line. I have a 3-3 raichu line as well 1 sacred ash. I have not played a pyroar deck yet but the raichu have been very helpful. It is still a very good deck and once you start playing it more you will see when is the right time to make decisions and what not.

VirGen just did really well at the world tournament so I would say that it is a very good deck.

I have to say it is still a good deck but no more free retreats when its BCR on format which I'm running with energy retrievals to get my energy back.
