Basic Bonanza?

Just as a disclosure, I have no idea what will/will not end up in our next set, and although it seems improbable that we'll end up with all of the basics that we should get, it is still fun to speculate.

Alright so we are going to be getting Emerging Powers sometime soon, and with Emerging Powers we should be getting a huge number of powerful basic Pokemon. The Musketeer Trio, The Genie Trio, Victini, Kyurem will be rounding out the Dragon Trio, and Druddigon.

But it isn't just a bunch of powerful basics, we also have some cards that support these big hitters. Archeops stops evolution, and Evolite gives these basics some additional bulk.

So with all of that, who is to say that a loose group of these basics and their support wouldn't be a viable deck option?

Depends on what your style is. Basics can rarely snipe, so that's a difficulty. Just random mish mash without strategy is hazardous.

And Archeops will be EXTREMELY hard to get out with the new fossil rule, you would need like 4 Research Records and other stuff to get it right...

I suspect many of the same decks that are already doing well will continue to do so. ZPS and Reshiboar are getting a serious boost from evolite. As for Archeops? I think it will have its niche. Like Vileplume. But I dont' think it will ever become common.

Any deck with Reshiram will get also nice boost from eviolite.

It wouldn't necessarily be a mish-mash of basics with no strategy though. If you pick and choose your basics based on the metagame and your strengths as a player you can create a decent deck using basics and not much else. For example I'll use Archeops in the deck (still not sure what is the best lines as far as getting one of these things out consistently. I'm thinking 1-3-2 with Junk Arm to recycle the fossil trainer. Then again I could be totally wrong without testing that.) With that I'll bring along Terakion for revenge killing and Energy Type Synergy, as well as Landorus as he makes for a decent start with a possible T2 80 and 10 Spread to everything. From there I realize that Landorus' spread works wonders with Reshi/Zek/Kyu for their outrage attacks and type coverage, so I'll toss in one of each and some DCE. Should I not start with Landorus I would like another decent starter, and hopefully one that doesn't require too much for energy, I'll take Virizion since I like it as a card and a starter.

4 Virizion
4 Landorus
3-2 Archeops
1 Terakion
1 Kyurem
1 Reshiram
1 Zekrom
(17)

It's not perfect by anyone's standards but with Evolite you do have a way to protect yourself from the backlash of Landorus without much hassle, and the deck itself doesn't require much of anything special in the way of trainers or energy.

Just saying, the most definite way of getting Archeops out consistently is

4 Research Records
4 Plume Fossil
3 Junk Arm

other options include:

4 Pokedex (waste!)
1-1 Slowking HS/CL

But I think Research Records is king for it.

I might make an article on the best Fossil setup, keep pending.
