Alright guys, Battle Roads was amazing. It was my first Masters tourney, so that's cool. I’ve been kind of disechanted, even bored with playing Pokemon lately, but it really brought back my passion 4 fashion Pokemon. I went with Jake, Anson, and Bucky both days. Jake and Anson are TheLostZone and Vulpix Yolk, respectiviely. Since I live in middle-of-nowhere New Mexico, we only have 4 BR’s a year. It’s a shame. The first day I didn’t have a deck until I woke up to find that Anson had built some crazy Groudon/ Drifblim/ Mewtwo/ Hammers thing. We only had 1 Mewtwo to lend me because I’m a scrub and a bum. Oh yeah, and I didn’t play Catcher. Oh yeah, and it was my first tournament in Masters, qoddanqit. So, I played my crazy Groudon thing, Anson played Terrakion Mewtwo Garbodor Tornadus, Bucky played Empoleon, and Jake played Terrakion Tornadus something else. Bucky had Terrakion in his list, also. I hate Terrakion a lot. It just stole the meta in New Mexico this tournament, I swear. On the way up, my dad drove us and we listened to Ready To Die, credit to Anson. It was at the usual place, some card shop called Active Imagination. There’s a Burger King across the street we eat at everytime we have a tournament, and the manager there is a black guy with a beautiful pompadour, named Malcolm. On our deck lists, we had two different images of Nermal, the antagonist cat of the Garfield series, instead of Pokemon, and one image of a kid we hate named Loris saying “I was playing Luxchomp before HG-SS, you are all just posers.” The lady deck checking said they were cute. Oh also, while Anson was deck checking, instead of having a FA Mewtwo in the Mewtwo slot, he had a gold border Princess Luna MLP card instead. Upon being questioned about where the Mewtwo was, he pulled a FA Mewtwo out of his pocket. We sat around for a while, talking about how I’m in Masters and it being hilarious, and people admired my play mat, a wooden board that had a painted copy of The Last Supper by Leonardo DaVinci on it.
ROUND 1: My first round I was paired against this guy from Arizona I know named Tyler. He’s really pompous and played Zek Eels, so I don't like him. Anyhow, he had a decent set up, but I had a great one. I swept him with Groudon, and eventually he killed two of my Groudons. He had a Mewtwo active, and I had a built up Drifblim and he had 4 doubles in his discard, so I Shadow Stole for 400 damage, game.
1-0
Yeah, so my first round in Masters was great. Beat my opponent with a Drifblim.
ROUND 2: I was paired against my friend Raul. Jake lent him a Mewtwo at Spring Regs, and he returns the favor to all of us all the time. He's a really good guy. From what I could tell, he was playing Darkrai Mewtwo Tornadus, but it might have been Terrakion instead of Tornadus. I had a god awful set up. After two turns of dead draws, I finally got an N, which I played, only to get another dead hand. He Night Speared and X Balled through two Groudons and a Mewtwo, sweeping me 6-0 on prizes.
1-1
I had a terrible round, but I couldn't beat myself up too much because I liked the guy, didn't have Catcher, and it was my first tournament in Masters.
ROUND 3: I got paired against someone I didn't recognize. My start was amazing. He was playing Zek Eels, and he decided to cut the middleman and just start building up Eels. I started killing his Zekroms, and landing myself 3-2 on prizes. He eventually brings up some benched Zapdos with enough energy to Hurricane or whatever. This is crippling. I keep thinking that he was weak to me, so it would be okay, but Zapdos is resistant so it was just bad. He began slowly killing my Groudons, and eventually winning.
1-2
The worst part is he was taking like 3 minutes a turn and only dynamotoring to things. Like, does it really take that long to do that? I might have had a chance if I had applied resistance on my Groudons, but I forgot to because I was so anxious to end that game and grab lunch.
LUNCH BREAK: Oh yeah lunch break was great, I bought 2 chicken sandwiches and ten chicken nuggets at the Burger King. Malcolm wasn't there though. We were back in our seats on time instead of early, so we didn't have to wait. Now it was raffles, and Bucky won a playmat so that was good for him.
ROUND 4: Playing against my friend Nate's girlfriend. She's decent, she's been playing the same length as me. I guess she was playing Reshiboar. No, not Reshiboar EX. Reshiboar. I had to give her a high five for being so bada$$. I set up a Groudon really fast, and had enough energy to build up a land crush/Retaliate on my bench. I was 2-1 on prizes when she started to take over. I couldn't recover after she finally killed my groudon and terrakion. I tried X Balling until I could build up another Groudon, but it was already over. She killed the Mewtwo and drew 6 prizes.
1-3
Oh well.
ROUND 5: I played against some guy whose first tourney in any division was this one. He was playing Kyurem EX/Kyurem/Kyogre EX/ Vaporeon or something. I was kind of scared because I'm weak to Kyogre. He had a decent set up, as did I. I ended up killing his Kyurem EX pretty fast. He brought up a Kyogre and did a decent amount of damage to my Groudon before I hit 2 Potion off of a Juniper and killed it. I killed a Blissey with Retaliate, and he couldn't set up after that. I attached, land crushed, and killed his last Kyurem after two turns.
2-3
It was a pretty good turn out for a New Mexico tournament, and I had a lot of fun so I couldn't complain. Being in Masters in New Mexico, so far isn't any harder than Seniors, it's just more advanced.
After the tourney every one did some trading, then my dad took us to the Noble Collectables, a store filled with Pokemon/MTG/Yu-Gi-Oh singles, Video Games, Comics, everything. It’s the best place ever. I ended up buying a ton of Slowpoke from Fossil (I collect these), a clear deck box for 2 DOLLARS, some old Pokemon stickers, 4 Base 2 DCE’s, a Japanese Holo Giovanni, some other holos, and a pack of Garbage Pail Kids from 1987. The gum was still in it. I ended up eating it, and it kind of just turned into pebbles in my mouth. That gum was around when Biggie was alive, and The Soviet Union still existed, just so you know. We stayed at Jake’s that night, and then his mom drove us the next morning.
Thanks for reading my report guys, I might be making one for day two of Battle Roads but who knows.
