Best Deck in Format

Now that phantom gate has come out what deck do you think is the best deck in the format and why. I personally think ighting decks are still pretty good becuase they still have all of the support from furious fist, I also think that Vir/ Gen decks will still be good becuse they are so consistant. I think the new metal decks will have potential as well as decks with ManectricEX/ M manectricEX.

There is no champion deck at the moment, which is a good thing in my opinion. While Fighting decks remains strong, they have generally lost a lot due to the reprint of Enhanced Hammer. On the other hand, Seismitoad is handed the double-edged sword of the Team Flare Hyper Gear. A great tool to use, but each with the potential to tremendously slow down the deck to the point of failure when first used by the opponent. Virizion/Genesect doesn't really make any substantial gains or losses besides enhanced hammer, although I'm not sure if Balloons will return as the favorite tech.

Both of the new archetypes in this set (Bronzong and M Manectric) are strong in a vacuum, but ill prepared for the format. Bronzong is just a tad too slow in a metagame filled with item and ability lock, while Manectric's fighting weakness is a massive liability to any deck that could conceivably benefit from it.

Ok now that some city championships have been played what decks do you all think could be considerd the best deck in the format and why. I know every deck has its good matchups but what decks do you all think are good enough to not only beat other good decks but can even beat the decks that they have a bad matchup against.

Like Auride said, there is no BDIF atm. Looks like TPCi is trying its best to give us a very diversified format next season, where tons of things are playable, there's no single deck that can beat anything and big basics are a lot less common. They're in the right track, if you ask me.

Btw if a deck can constantly beat a bad match-up (without hax) it isn't a bad match-up.

I know there is no "best deck in format" I was simpily asking of opinions and reasoning behind those opinnions.

I think fighting decks are the best. It can be run of the mill fighting attackers or the Donphan build. They've been given the most support along with the best attackers (sometimes those vanilla attacks are all you need) and they hit the most things for weakness.

I'd say Donphan is the dominant deck right now. It's had a big presence at Cities, and has claimed a stellar amount of victories. I made top eight at the Cities I went to today... and exactly half of the top cut decks (including my own) were Donphan. It's a strong, balanced deck that handles most of the common threats rather well. Yveltal has a hard time keeping up, especially if the build is EX heavy, but builds running high counts of Yveltal XY give Donphan a hard time. Donphan can also overpower VirGen if it sets up fast enough and makes critical KOs in a timely manner. Even Seismitoad has a hard time outdamaging out, and Pyroar struggles to trade prizes.

What's real interesting about Donphan is that most builds run no Pokemon-EX at all, and the ones that do only run a single Landorus, Seismitoad, or possibly Jirachi. This forces the opponent to take six prizes the hard way, which in an EX-heavy format, many decks lack the resources to do efficiently. Decks like Seismitoad and Yveltal that rely on Laserbank to boost damage can run out of resources quickly, especially when they need to maneuver around Safeguards, Outragers, and Robo Substitutes.

At the recent Indy mini-City marathon, 1 player ran a Yveltal-Seismitoad deck amongst a lot of Donphan decks and won 2 of the 3 City tournaments. Yesterday, another player running a Yveltal-Seismitoad deck won an LC (not that many Donphan decks played).

For me, going into the upcoming Chicago City marathon, I must be prepared to beat Yveltal-Seismitoad, Donphan, VirGen, Night March, and Gengar. Of these 4, I expect my toughest match-ups to be against VirGen (which I hope will not be well represented) decks...

In regards to the BDIF, I would "vote" for 1 of the top 3 in the above list, and probably "lean" more towards Yveltal-Seismitoad than the other 2 just given my experience in playing my YS deck against the other 4 decks.

Yveltal/Hammers/Hard Charm is really good, not a lot can deal with it and Yveltal is still a real solid attacker. Metal has a lot of potential but it can struggle to get set up which is its downfall. If it can get rolling with Bronzongs out quick enough there's not much that can stop it.

I also like Empoleon and Zapdos/Manectric (which might become a thing).

My bet is that this archetype will get even strong with the help of Ancient Rhyperior. Stopping 50 damage is huge.

Right now donphan is very consistently strong and that counts for a lot, but there are many very strong decks out there now that make things more interesting. i think pokemon wanted to make it more of a players game instead of the deck alone. i am looking forward to our cities here to see what turns out on top.

I run a YveltallEX speed deck w/plasma energy and colress machine. The only deck I hate playing against is Night March.

Do you have Team Plasma Badge too?

Speed Yveltal-EX cannot take advantage of the key abilities in Plasma decks(the ones that come from Deoxys AND/OR Thundurus(both Plasma+EX versions)) w/o it, as it's not a Team Plasma pokemon at raw condition, not to mention that I'm guessing that your deck's tighter on space as a result of that need in case you want your yveltal-ex to take advantage of power connect...

^ Did I guess right?

Yes, of course PIasma badge, otherwise it would be useless. ONLY use the plasma cards for speeding up energy delivery. This isnt' a "plasma deck". Winning about 75-80% against most decks. Only run 6 poke's w/lots of room for trainers. Night march makes me cringe. It sets up so fast.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply my deck was the best anything. I was talking about night march.
