Best of 3

It has been about 2 years since we transitioned to the Bo3 format at larger tournaments. What are your thoughts on it now? Do you think it has been working well? What could be changed to make it better?

My only issues is the stalling and ties. Game 3 should determine a winner by prizes left. I think that would make bo3 better. The stalling piece will be there no what I think.

Constantly at regionals I have to make agreements with my opponent where we say 'if we go into game 3 and its a tie, wanna just go off prizes?' Its not fun to think about before you start a match, but honestly having records being 4-2-3 could have been 7-2's without ties (a bit of an overstatement). I still think they should make it BO1. Now with all of these EXs, megas, and whatever, Donks are a real thing of the past. That was one of the main reasons why BO3 was made; so donks don't represent a large proportion of wins. We will have more rounds to prove our skills and more chances at losses before top cut (maybe even 3 losses gets into top 32).

I could go through all the reasons why best of three with the time limit is awful for the game, or how it discourages newer players from starting out in large tournaments, or how ties are an unbelievably stupid system. But in the end, all it really comes down to is that it makes the game less fun. Bo3 is inherently better than single game, but not if there simply isn't enough time to accommodate it. I hate nothing more to be rushed in a turn-based game, or feel disappointed as my 6-1 prize lead ends in a tie because I didn't get one more turn. The problems with best of one right now are largely alleviated due to the first turn rule, so please, PLEASE let them go back to that.

Also, before someone makes the comment "you simply need to play faster" or "good players will find a way to succeed," don't. Good players will always find a way to succeed, and being forced to play faster is the problem in the first place. And even with faster play, ties are still inevitable.

I honestly HATE this system. I played Yveltal / Seismitoad last Regionals and got.....yes......FIVE ties (9 rounds) This honestly got me extremely mad at the system. I even had a game 3 that ended in a tie with me having 6 prizes left and my opponent, one. I should've lost that match. I mean......seriously.

Going with Blah's post, I find myself as a pretty great player. This system ruined my success at this past Regionals. Without ties in place, I would've had 3 more wins and ultimately changed the match ups I played. (I could've not faced that rare Pyroar deck I ran into)

It isn't that players are playing slow. On average I find a game to take 20-25 minutes. With only 50 minutes, that is only 2 full games on average. Game 3 will probably always be a tie and that is ridiculous. This system actually influenced my decision on decks for States, and that is undesirable.

They could of had 11-13 single game rounds at Regionals. It would be less tiring and none of the dumb bo3 system we have now. Even if you get 3/4 bad starts, there are plenty more games to prove it without worrying about a game 3 ending in tie.
