Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

Rules and Entry Requirements:

1.) Post here saying that you want to enter and you’ll be accepted. Please note that the limit for entries is twelve per contest and signup ends once that tally has been met or the deadline for signups and submissions has passed.

2.) Participation requires simply that all entrants write a three-line short poem in haiku format (the alternating "Five-Seven-Five Syllables" per line set up) to be voted upon once all entries have been submitted (which will also be copy-and-pasted into this post when I have the time to do so). All submissions are final, but the only restrictions are that participants have until the second Wednesday after this post has been made to submit their poems here. The fan fiction moderator may scrutinize the quality of poems and completely unintelligible submissions might be automatically disqualified; however, you will not be penalized for occasional small errors.

3.) All writings much have bear some hinting to the select theme for each contest, just to keep things somewhat even. The theme for this contest will be Modern Living. After all submissions have been made or the deadline has passed, a poll will be created that will be open for all members of PokéBeach to vote for their favorites in. Unlike the previous contest, voting for your own poem will not be permitted and also be closely monitored to prevent cheating (basically, if I see that you’ve voted for your own, I’m just going to dock you a point).

Participant List
1.) Syneptus
2.) Darkvoid57
3.) Bippa201
4.) P0KEVORTEX
5.) Spoink!
6.) Blue Thunder

Haiku List (in order of authors entered contest)

1.) A Haiku for City Life
Listening for it,
A cacophony of sound;
The subway, passing.

2.) A Haikou about Bullying
I can't take the pain
The twisted things you all say
All I ask: Why me?

3.) A Haiku about Television
Look at the bright box.
Its cool, shiny, like magic.
But I'm addicted.

4.) A Haiku of Hunger
Chewing a Big Mac
Has the thought crossed your mind that
Someone never will?

5.) A Haiku of Darkness
Bright streetlights blind me
Stars clouded by cold, false light
We have lost the night

6.) City Nights
Dazzling bright lights
Music blaring through the streets
Party time tonight!

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

*Bump*

Forgive me for not announcing this better, everyone, but I'm not sure how else to really bring attention to this contest outside of my signature and occasionally bumping it to make this thread top-belly in the WC itself.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

I wish to enter...

Haiku Two:
A Haiku for City Life
Listening for it,
A cacophony of sound;
The subway, passing.

That counts as a part of modern living, correct?

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

Aye! Modern Living entails anything that affects current lifestyles or has to do with modern livelihoods and the way people live nowadays.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

I'll join

Do poems need to be posted now, or later?

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

I'll take submissions here until next Wednesday (if people don't get them in beforehand). So, you basically have a little more than a week to get poems in.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

I'll enter.

A Haiku about Television
Look at the bright box.
Its cool. Its shiny. Its like magic.
But I'm addicted.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

Count me in!
It always takes me several days to find these competition threads. Alas, here is my entry.

A Haiku of Hunger
Chewing a Big Mac
Has the thought crossed your mind that
Someone never will?

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

Alright, I added you both. I'll check back later for your entry then, Bippa201.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

*Mini-bump*

Again, I'm just doing this to keep the thread on top, for the moment. I'll try not to do it again if this remains as the first view-able topic on the main forum index. Additionally, to make sure it's clear, the deadline is next Wednesday, not today.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

*Weekend Bump*

Just to be clear, this will be the last bump I'll be making until Tuesday. I'm a little disappointed to not see more contestants having entered this, but I guess it's only to be expected since this is about the time school and college starts for most people.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

May I enter?

A Haiku of Darkness
Bright streetlights blind me
Stars clouded by cold, false light
We have lost the night

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

No problem, Spoink! I'll update the OP with your poem sometime tomorrow since I'm only on by phone tonight and can't copy-and-paste things at the moment.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

I'll try this again:

City Nights
Dazzling bright lights
Music blaring through the streets
Party time tonight!

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

Updated...finally (sorry for short delays on may part)!

I'll leave this open until tomorrow as promised. Also, I may be PMing or Profile Messaging DV57 (if you don't read this first) to see if he's got his poem ready.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

I'm still waiting on DV57's poem before I make a poll, but this post is to notify everyone that I will no longer be accepting anymore entries for this contest.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

A Haikou about Bullying

I can't take the pain
The twisted things you all say
All I ask: Why me?

Entered :D

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

And added to the OP, as well as adding a poll. Sorry for the delay, everyone, but I decided to wait for DV57's entry this time around. I might not do it again in the future, though; this time it was just because we only had a small turnout (despite this being a small-time contest anyways).

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

*Minor update*

The poll will remain open for this contest through Sunday (and should time out on its own). I plan on starting the next one either Sunday or Monday depending on my internet access (probably Sunday, since it's the only day I'll have off work until the middle of next week if I don't get more scheduled by then). I may offset the timescales and extend the deadline until Thursday from here on out. Also, I'll be taking suggestions for themes if anyone has them, just remember I'm trying to keep them open-ended and stuff most people can write haiku about in a short amount of time (I've just been avoiding Pokemon-based ones for the time being so I don't burn through those right away like I easily could've). The next one will be Science & Technology.

RE: Biweekly Haiku Contest (Second Run)

Alright, I've decided to close the poll. Congratulations, Darkvoid57! Your haiku about bullying really won me over, so it's no small surprise it got the most votes (to me anyhow). Also, good job, Spoink! for being the runner-up!

My next contest will begin shortly, but I'll leave this thread open for a bit so people can talk about it (and close it when it seems no-one else is going to post like before).
